After trying a fair few times I finally managed to scrape past the defence of Redcliffe, but now I don't know how to complete the quest.
I killed all the zombies coming out of the castle and in front of the Chantry. What do I do now? I can't find any more enemies. If I go back up to the castle entrance walking corpses attack one after the other every few minutes, but that's all. I even tried going through the oil fire into the fog. I've been wandering around the town for over an hour trying to figure out what to do next, can anyone help me out?

Go back down below and wander around the lower portion of the town. For some reason, there seems to be a couple stragglers that stay down by the water rather than run up to attack and until you kill those guys the game won't let you complete the mission.

Yea, it ends when all zombies are dead...some might even come from the fire again.

Okay, thanks. I thought I already searched there, but I must have missed something.

Did anyone just run circles around the oil fire? All of my party died so I just ran like a fool around the fire for 10 minutes while all of the zombies burned. It is the only way I could get past!

Okay, I searched the entire town like three more times and killed everything past the fire. Still nothing. Does the quest just end or do you have to talk to someone?

Hmm, should just end. The game for some reason is treating it like you're missing one or more creatures that are necessary to kill in order to complete the mission. Most that have had this problem is because there a few stragglers that stay down by the water rather than move in and attack. Not sure if you explored down there though what to say. I guess try running up around the top area although I'm pretty sure until the mission completes it will constantly throw a few mobs at you at a time at the upper area.
Maybe give it a go up there a bit and see if anything happens and if not try running around below again to see if any more mobs below have spawned? Only thing I can think of besides starting over, which of course no one would want to do if it can be avoided.

I remember finding one on the docks behind the houses. Going around the houses, another one came across the bridge and he was the last one. Hopefully you aren't stuck due to trigger messing up.

I found it usefull to take a little extra time before I did this part to level up morrigan and get a healing spell and assign it to you tactics. It also helps a lot if you manage to recruit everyone available to defend the town. If you dont have a good persuasion skill, then you will probably have to spend around 3 gold or so for bribes. Having more soldiers there to help you out makes it a much easier fight, in my expierence at least.

The extra help made a huge difference at first but it seems like they get over taken pretty quick. I had a hard time keeping my party out of the fire. I was trying to lure the baddies through it but everyone would just follow them in.

You can use the command to have your party stay where they are rather than have them run after them every time or alternately you can pause the game and issue them each commands to stop them from running in every time. There's a small icon right below the character portraits that you can click that will have your party members hold their ground. Not sure how this works on console versions though.
Just remember to unlick it when you want them to follow you or move after the mobs because other wise they'll stay right where they are hehe

I've found a couple stragglers just standing on the docks below the smithy shop....after they were killed, mission completed.
This quest is definitely a little bit bugged. just a LITTLE bit.

I had one survivor and kept dragging the zombies to the windmill and let the NPCs kill them. Not very heroic but it worked. I am finding some parts in this game very hard.

I seem to be in the same boat, except my lone lost critter to kill was up top. I've wandered past the docks like.. 4 times now and I haven't found any other stragglers. I'm still stuck, and I'm wondering... Do both groups of NPCs need to live in order to complete the mission? (Both Ser Perth and Murdoc died... Tho Dwyn and most of the knights still live. >.> )

For the fire part I found it incredibly easy to switch all the characters to ranged and make them stand ground.
Then have them all focus fire one undead at a time (pull them, they come so slowly). The undead will die before it reaches you, and if it reaches you it gets torn apart by the knights.
As for saving the Chantry -- Good luck I barely survived that.

Theory number 2... I noticed that the last 3 knights at the upper position are still "In combat" Maybe they have to come out before it moves on...

Keep Murdoch and Tomas alive. Murdoch in particular delivers good damage and holds aggro nicely. My first two tries I rushed in and took over and ignored the local militia. Wiped both times. Then I changed tactic and healed the local militia instead, kept everyone close together, and it was a cakewalk.

Okay. I re-did the quest, and this time Ser Perth lived, and the mission moved on without a hitch. I'm guessing that there is a glitch where either Murdoc or Ser Perth *has* to live for it to continue. Anyone else come across the same thing?

Happened to me. I'm going to have to redo the quest. There are no zombies anywhere in the town or up on the hill.
