We consider this an
exploit/cheating and are tracking it. Anyone found to use it will lose
their tokens Tuesday morning before the auction begins.

Posting
something and asking people to click on it is fine. Posting something
that is going to automatically generate clicks for you without reader
approval (willingness to click) is in our opinion tantamount to
cheating and will not be tolerated.

While now we know that it wont be allowed, obviously anyone who starts/continues this should fall into that category.  But what about those that did it will no ill intent, using it to keep up with the method that was ripe for even far worse exploitation, with no indication it was not legal (even Woo did not say it was cheating when he addressed it.

I'm just asking if there will be a grace period to remove such links, or if we will all be now ineligible for being creative, even if there was no indication this was cheating until just now.

Maybe this needs clarification..I don't think I know if I am cheating or not by having my number above my sig? I'm definitely not one to look for ways to cheat, so that needs to be clearer.

Thanks :)

Having a hyperlink is fine.  I'm not going to repeat the method, as it is not condoned, and if you don't know what it is by now, consider yourself lucky.

It's only considered a cheat if you linked the referral link as an img, thus causing peopel to auto-click on it.

I agree with Clixt, ban this if you wish, but give us a second chance or the real community is essentially out of the running.

Essentially, if you dont allow a second chance, you're taking the people that love BioWare and its swag so much that they have been tirelessly and creatively doing everything that was originally within the realm of the original rules to try to get a chance to keep up everyone else, and banning those people, the ones that care the most, essentially, for trying hard. (I know I've been glued to my computer for days, all of my friends, and even strangers, are tired of my begging by now!)

Aye, I think I must have posted around a thousand times on some very annoying forums, which is where I got most of my clicks, but I'll get banned for using this trick to get an extra couple thousand here.

Agreed.

I myself am a moderator at a fairly large forum that has been working its ass off for years to enforce a policy of respect towards game devs, to be against spammy advertisement, and to be against cheating and hacks and torrents and the like, etc. I've even bought two copies of Mass Effect 2, just cause I can. So yes, while I used the image thingy, I'm fine with taking it out. Though I wouldn't like getting banned from the competition for it, as I am still honorably into participating for fun as well, I guess I have no room to complain if they do choose to ban.

We will see.

On most sites those boxes are actually invisible.

I have 10k and the only thing I have  done is the threads where you post your link

No ill intent? You knew what you were doing, and I said when the first links went up that is was against the rules....now its been confirmed (after I got flamed to hell)....

You own fault if you get excluded....

There was nothing stating it was against the rules, even Woo, who perhaps didn't like it, did not think it was a violation.  Now that we explicitly know, is when it should go into effect.

Actually, it was never technically against the rules, or at least stated in the original rules. GHell, even Stanley Woo was unsure of it, and it took this long for Bioware to decide it is an exploit.

Though true, if I get banned for this, I don't have much room to complain. You win some, you lose some.

Even though the issue was raised several days ago, it took BioWare this long to confirm? Even another BioWare staffer was rather nuanced on the subject and didn't quite know.

I would not be overly upset if I get disqualified, but many others have spent countless hours posting on other message boards in their attempt to generate clicks and not disrupt those boards with spam either.

The usage of such an exploit is still more morally justified than flooding the Internet with spam (despite what BioWare may think).

I still don't see how img tags are bad but obnoxiously begging strangers to click your links is okay.

That makes sense in one way, but when Bioware wants more exposure for their games from this...different story.

Stanley essentially said that he didn't like it and that he was going to be more zealous about removing instances of this trick if he felt they were spammy or inappropriate, not that using it would disqualify you.

I just hope that Chris Priestly at least gives us an answer on this amnesty, I would hate to continue working hard getting the word out about BioWare games, only to have the rug pulled out from under me at the last second.

Exactly! Originally, I started by spamming Facebook, but then all my friends there were questioning my motives and wondering if my account had been hacked or something. So, I started using the [img] exploit as a less disruptive alternative.

People have been banned over this stuff on other forums. Even GameFAQs banned quite a few people for spamming their BioWare Bazaar links.

I do not know what good BioWare intended out of this contest, but there were certainly better ways to market the BioWare brand. A new game announcement, instead of this silly "BioWare Bazaar" would have done wonders.

I'm actually a part of a forum where they were totally okay with me posting the link because I'm liked there, but in the end, instead of me upping that thread every day to remind everyone, I just img tagged the link in my sig. That shouldn't be called cheating.

This seems a bit irresponsible if there is no chance to remove your link or anything
