I just hope that Chris Priestly at least gives us an answer on this amnesty, I would hate to continue working hard getting the word out about BioWare games, only to have the rug pulled out from under me at the last second.

Yep, don't grant us amnesty and all the big token people (that are probably posting a lot of real referral links as well) are just going to stop. Bad for business.

No ill intent? You knew what you were doing, and I said when the first links went up that is was against the rules....now its been confirmed (after I got flamed to hell)....

You own fault if you get excluded....

This, it was obviously a very fishy tactic from the outset.  Tricking a browser into getting you clicks is obviously exploitative.

If you have to ask if it is cheating, chances are you shouldn't do it until you get an answer or awe willing to accept the consequences.

I really have no sympathy for people that tried to cheat the system and are getting punished for it, and I am quite glad that my browser settings made sure that my browsing didn't contribute to exploiters token counts.

The secondary issue with this policy is what's to stop me from making a second account and posting img tagged links to my competitors social links? Therefore banning them from the contest?

I wouldn't, but it seems like a legit concern.

Well, not everyone reads this forum, so there might be thousands of people using the exploit right now not knowing that it has been prohibited.

I've been an enormous BioWare fan ever since I first got my hands on an abridged copy of Baldur's Gate 1. I would hate to have a sour taste in my mouth about a company that I've been liberally pouring money into for years, especially recently.

Of course... But the issue was raised, and it took three days for BioWare to get back to us... after another BioWare staffer claimed it was "okay" without telling us that he would check with his higher-ups to confirm.

But I agree. Many people, in their greed, have been quite dishonorable.

There was nothing stating it was against the rules, even Woo, who perhaps didn't like it, did not think it was a violation.  Now that we explicitly know, is when it should go into effect.

Exactly

This is the last we heard on the issue, from Woo:

Most image tag exploit posts are edited and links are removed
because they are similarly spamming the thread in which they are posted,
usually in non-link exchange threads. Because the image tag exploit is a
little sketchy, I'm a little stricter in when and where people can post
them. Like regular links, I have little to no problem with people
posting links to their signature blocks or in threads specifically
designed to exchange links. Throwing the links around willy-nilly is
what gets folks in trouble.

Which I took to mean that its ok, as long as you're not spamming threads and engaging in otherwise disruptive behavior--which if you look at the people who did it's posting, we as far as I saw did not. I'm perfectly happy to stop using it, and already have, but it seems a little unfair to exclude us, when as far as we could it had been ok'd.

Because you, an average BioWare fan like everyone else, said something everyone else should automatically stand up and take heed?  Yeah right, I think someone might have an overly inflated ego.  There are plenty of people who whine and ß and moan about this that or some other thing, but because you said something negative.  It is people's own fault for failing to take notice?  Perhaps you failed to think about what you just wrote, threw a few times before you let your fingers do the walking.

From what has been said I think there will probably be some leeway.  And, yes my count is still below 10K, so this isn't self preservation.

BioWare can turn off img UBB for user signatures.  Done and done.

I'm not sure if they're just noting who is using tis in their sigs or actually tracking that throughout all clicks on all sites. If it's the former, then only the community will be punished, while random people that want free loot will get all the prizes, if it's the latter, then yeah, thousands of people will be DQ's without even knowing.

Feels like I'm watching a game that a bunch of kids are playing.
And the leader of the kids keeps making up rules as the game goes on to stop the best kid from doing so well.
You guys know what I'm talking about, right?
