This.
But without ToB. It was just ok. It's probably very difficult to make a good cRPG with <CHARNAME> on epic level.

Deus Ex for me as well. Nice to know others still really like that game. Here's hoping Deus Ex 3 is decent

Fallout 2 (liked Fallout 1 but it just seemed unpolished compared to 2), I remember being obsessed with all that pixelated 2d gore; the main story was great, and I loved traveling to random towns in the wastes and seeing how they all had their own culture and had their own interesting story. New Reno was always my favorite city in that game.
Though I have to say KOTOR is tied with it, as it's the only other game I've been able to sit down and play through once every year, and still be as excited to play it as I was the first time I played it all those years ago.

Wow. You're spanning 20 years of playing games and of all varies for me. I have so many choices and categories to pick from. ACK!
I can't really say which ones are my favourite, so how about which ones are the most memorable for me.
Thief series
Wing Commander series
Eye of the Beholder series
X-Com series
Baldur's Gate series

Gothic series, from Piranha Bytes. In this order: 2, 1, 3.

Yeah, gotta love Gothic. I myself love the second, but the only problem is the lack at character customization. The third is quite stunning in every aspect... problem is this : in G2 you cannot kill 3 orcs simultaneously on level, I don't know, 17, while on Gothic 3, you can kill them up to 7 or more on level 1!?
I am ashamed however to say I never played the first one...

Impossible to choose just one.
In the 80s: Laser Squad.
From the 90s to date: Civilization series.
2000s: Deus Ex, Kotor.
