We can all agree that Jacob is ripped. But I can also say that he is boring and I had no reason to go talk to him. Whenever I did I was hoping for a renegade interrupt to shoot him in the leg and throw him out the airlock. Thane is an assassin, Garrus is a turian badass, and Jacob is some suicidal black guy who follows Shepard around like a hurt puppy. Plus he's useless in combat, for being so muscular.

I feel like Jacob could have been an interesting character. I wish Shepard had gotten to talk to him about his Corsair past, and more in depth about what happened with his dad. Poor guy.

Daddy issues are always interesting. I also hope they let us ask Garrus about his in ME3.

It's formulaic, but I'd prefer talking to someone about their daddy issues than their similarly formulaic dead wife/sister/girlfriend/etc. issues (esp. after having played and romanced my way through BG2 and KOTOR numerous times).

I actually like the romance conversations with Jacob more than the other two. The only problem is he keeps talking about still being hung up on Miranda. My Shepard doesn't like being anyone's second choice.

Jacob supposedly is the anti-Carth. Instead of a guy with issues who talks about them constantly, isn't easy to earn trust from, and who flirts with you and can take teasing, we get a guy with issues who gets angry if you try to get him to talk about them, is "emotionally constipated", has low self-esteem, and scratches his head in confusion when he's faced with a blatant come-on.

Poor Jacob. He almost has apoplexy when encountering three mechs, fobs off Shepard on a regular basis ('again, Commander?'), mouths off at almost every new recruit and plays run-of-the-mill-soldier-with-nothing-notably-unique, and this is the thanks he gets? Honestly, April Fool's Days' these days...

Edit: With that said, I don't mind the guy. He just doesn't have a unique selling point (as it were) that makes him as memorable as the other squad members, as people on this forum have pointed out.
