Shin Megami Tensei (and yes Persona is an excellent starting point, less difficult than say SMT Nocturne), most Tri-Ace games, Dragon Quest series. Anything that has a track record of interesting battles systems and/or compelling settings really. Diggin' Resonance of Fate right now, waiting for more P5 news and saving up spare cash for SMT: Strange Journey.

Final Fantasy 8 was my favourite when i was younger. Hmm other than that Legend of Dragoon. I don;t play many jRPGs none come out on PC.
