its just how they are made lol I'm not quite sure, just seems fitting. They are the fair-folk, always appear youthful and lithe. Like how dwarves typically have beards, it just fits.

Is it even a bad thing? Facial hair is so icky.

They're not nearly manly enough.

There's at least one elf with facial hair in DAO. I won't say which one, but I bet someone figures it out.

Edit: I'm talking unmodded.  He's an NPC.

He's the storyteller in the Dalish Camp during The Nature of the Beast quest. He has a slight goatee.

It's standard D&D lore which probably has some reasoning in Tolkien lore... it's just a traditional elven depiction like pointed ears.

but they'd look better with facial hair, imo, but... i like facial hair. =P

It's genetic. They have a lack of secondary sex characteristics. Which is why all the elven men stereotypically look like little girls. They probably don't have hair anywhere else except on their head from the nose up.

Dwarven ladies probably has more body hair than them. "Probably", huh who am I kiddin'?

Yes, the snarky storyteller elf has ginger stubble. Maybe the others all shave.

Female dwarves should have beards too, imo.

Or maybe he's the Elven equivalent of a bearded woman.

He's got a teen-stache. LOL

I didn't notice that before.
I agree, elves should be able to have some facial hair options. When I was making an elf mage, I wanted to make him look more devious and I thought "oh a goatee would look nice" but alas, there isn't any.
Even though male elves have the androgynous thing going for them, which is hawt, a little soulpatch would help define their personality more.
Maybe they should buy some of the tonic that Duncan uses for beardawesomeness.

:D

They don't have much testosterone, why is it that they are so small?

Maybe elves are just humans with glandular problems? If it where a recessive genetic problem it might also explain why an elf/human child will be born human, but then I dropped out of A-level biology pretty fast so...

Come to think of it, there could be a sequel in there somewhere. The warden fights/supports the use of stem cells in the curing of the elves, just think of the complex moral choices.

I wonder if the storyteller guy gets shunned by the others for being the hairiest elf alive?

Actually there are groups of human males who have little or no facial hair. Native American males had little or no facial hair until they began interbreeding with Europeans. (Of course that's on a spectrum from none to almost as much as a European). The same goes for some (but certainly not all) groups of Polynesians. I think it's a genetic recessive trait, like blue eyes. And while these men had little or no facial hair, I am certain that there testosterone levels would compare with just about any other groups....Same thing would probably be true of the pointed ears. Just as some folk have no lobe to their ear lobe, a genetic variation on the same species. In fact, if Elves, Dwarfs and Humans can all interbreed and produce viable offspring, they are the same species.
