This is a small compilation of fixes for the 1.01A version not starting.
Do this if the game won't start after updating to 1.01A:
It looks like the patch was built with a different (presumably newer)
version of the MS VC++ 2005 runtime libraries.

vcredist_x86.exe --> DOWNLOAD ( regardless of whether you are running 32bit or 64bit you need THAT x86 file )
(To confirm you got the right file, you can check the file size; should be approx. 2.61 MB).

Fix for Vista and Windows 7 Users Games Explorer Link not working:
It's a corrupted game definition file that was installed from the
update. You'll need winrar to fix it or and app to open RAR files.
Navigate to your DVD open the data folder and then open apps_ship.rar .
Inside
the rar file will be a folder bin_ship. Open it and then copy the file
daoriginsgdf.dll to the same directory in your Dragon Age install
folder overwriting the existing ( or alternatively you can back it up
somewhere first ) . This will fix the problem.
If you
don't want or can't do all that, then just navigate to your Dragon Age
install folder and make a shortcut directly to DAOriginsLauncher.exe
and that will let you play. ( won't fix the Games Explorer though)

Fix for Impulse Users ( and possibly others ) With the game Activation problems after 1.01 Patch
Apparently one of the files needed for the DRM to work was corrupted or replaced with a bad version by the Impulse update.
*Download this file from one of the two mirrors below.
Mirror thx to Zechio :
www.imperiuminferi.com/DAO/daorigins.par
Mirror thx to quill18 on the Impulse forums:
http://www.memegen.net/daorigins.par
*Navigate to your Dragon Age Origins install directory. Inside the directory bin_ship you will find a file named
*daorigins.par - rename it or back it up somewhere ( just in case )
*Next copy the file you downloaded from here into the bin_ship directory
*You should now be able to play the game without the Activation problems.
For those who haven't updated to 1.01 and are using Impulse, you can safely install without causing problems using the update from here:

Install
it and then run it. Click the login tab and then log in to your

click the activation tab. Activate your copy using the Key provided to
you by Direct 2 Drive. Next goto downloads and it should show up as
already downloaded with the option to play.

Suggestions if you are having further problems:

Something to try if you still have issues after getting the VC++ ATL fix.
Run Microsoft update: http://www.update.mi...microsoftupdate
get Microsoft update and select "custom" then have it install all the
optional updates as well as the critical ones. That often fixes unknown
errors of a variety of kinds. Don't just use windows update or the
"automatic updates" as those only patch certain things... do the manual
update too.
Also, if these fixes don't work try the SEARCH! It's working now. If nothing comes up then try posting your problem in the forums along with all the information you can about your computer. Hopefully one of the many helpful people around here can find a solution.

I just wanted to share with everyone that this issue has been reported and filed, and is being investigated.
I
apologize for the inconvenience this has caused for some people. It's
as nerve racking for us to see that people can't play the game as it is
for you. I know silence from "official" sources can be unbearable at
times, but we do appreciate your patience.
Also, thank you to
the community that has been able to find some work arounds for people
that were unable to play the game. It is appreciated.
