Thnak you all for the effort, I must say I got rid of the fix to play the game in its previous state although I play high dex dual wielding warrior....but now I will try the x86.exe - its all needed to do on XP SP3, right?
I gotta say one thing - my pc is hanging over the grave 6yo decepticon, and I'm able to play with hight to medium settings (1024x768res)....and running smoothly
I think the game code is pretty darn good. And my pc configuration was always somehow strange...on a sidenote: I never(in about 5 years) formatted my C: coz all my windows/hardware/software discs were lost to me. At this point my pc doesnt even know that he shouldnt be able to run certain new games, so he does
with good if not excellent effect

Reposting of page 1 to help people who fail to look at page 1...
This is a small compilation of fixes for the 1.01 version not starting. Please reply that it worked or just bump it to keep this at the top please. The search is not working and no one is sticking fixes so we'd like to keep this at the top.
Do this if the game won't start after updating to 1.01:
It looks like the patch was built with a different (presumably newer)
version of the MS VC++ 2005 runtime libraries.
Goto:
..scroll down to:
vcredist_x86.exe --> DOWNLOAD
(To confirm you got the right file, you can check the file size; should be approx. 2.61 MB).
The x86 version is appropriate for ALL OS's!

Fix for Vista and Windows 7 Users Games Explorer Link not working:
It's a corrupted game definition file that was installed from the
update. You'll need winrar to fix it or and app to open RAR files.
Navigate to your DVD open the data folder and then open apps_ship.rar .
Inside
the rar file will be a folder bin_ship. Open it and then copy the file
daoriginsgdf.dll to the same directory in your Dragon Age install
folder overwriting the existing ( or alternatively you can back it up
somewhere first ) . This will fix the problem.
If you
don't want or can't do all that, then just navigate to your Dragon Age
install folder and make a shortcut directly to DAOriginsLauncher.exe
and that will let you play. ( won't fix the Games Explorer though)

Something to try if you still have issues after getting the VC++ ATL fix.
Run Microsoft update: here
get Microsoft update and select "custom" then have it install all the
optional updates as well as the critical ones. That often fixes unknown
errors of a variety of kinds. Don't just use windows update or the
"automatic updates" as those only patch certain things... do the manual
update too.

I don't think this is happening because people have their auto-update disabled or are not running legit versions of Vista. My comp auto updates and is a legitimate version, and it still didn't get the proper patch automatically.

WTG guys - thanks for posting this. I did a forum search (no help there then) and was about to create a new thread (I couldn't believe I was the only one to see the problem) when I happened to spot this thread on a quick scan through. It worked - yay! Little request to the powers that be - do try to: a. fix the search function on the forums and b. try not to release game patches that bork the game (/heavy sarcasm). B*U*M*P*

Yeah.... tried this fix and restarted... same issue remains: Unable to load module
Any other suggestions? Perhaps uninstalling the patch? I tried looking in the files but can't tell what's what and obviously I don't want to delete the wrong thing.

The module error you got was from installing the patch and then uninstalling the game and reinstalling... try cutting the module folder and pasting it on the desktop, then launch the game

Hmm... something else funny going on too, on previous saved games when you level up, you are unable to click on the (+) icon to actually level up (also tried going into character stats and clicking (level up). Additionally the little icons that use to appear to let you know what actions the party members are taking (seem to be disabled). Man i really regret installing this patch. ><;

Well I can't start a new one cuz of the patch. All pervious saved games (before patch) now have these problems.

ok, paste the folder back where it came from... I'd heard someone say they'd been able to fix the reinstall errors that way... sketchy at best
