I just wanted to share with everyone that this issue has been reported and filed, and is being investigated.
I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused for some people.  It's as nerve racking for us to see that people can't play the game as it is for you.  I know silence from "official" sources can be unbearable at times, but we do appreciate your patience.

Also, thank you to the community that has been able to find some work arounds for people that were unable to play the game.  It is appreciated.

Sure no problem Allan... we're (myself, Dateranoth and ChandlerL) working on a list right now of fixes for the issues we've been able to solve most of the time :)

Im not sure if this is the same problem but this happened after my game updated today. It worked at 10:30 am fine before the update and when the game updated around 30 minutes ago i got this message. "The game cannot launch because of a misconfiguration. Please reinstall your game and try again." I havent changed any settings around, the only thing i did was update DAO, help!

Replacing the VC++ runtime worked for me, thanks guys.

I have no idea if this information is still useful to anyone or if this is an appropriate place to put it, but just in case, here's what was in my event log (Vista 64, error generated by something called "SideBySide", whatever that is, event ID 33):

Activation context generation failed for "E:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="*****",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

What version are you running? DVD, Steam, EADM?  If steam or EADM, you say it updated automatically?

Hmm. well, here's something you can try.  It seems to be the solution that works for most people.

Download the EADM:
http://eastore.ea.com/eadm

Install it, and thene activate the game using the same key you registered here with.  Supposedly the game should then show up in your Downloads list as 'installed' without having to re-download anything and you can play it.

I'm sorry to hear that.  You could use the EADM to reinstall and that should work, but its an obviously bad work around. I'm currently looking into it further. Can you give me the exact response when trying to play? does it reference awc.dll?

For crying out loud--this is what makes me lose faith in the whole digital download/DRM paradigm :(

Nova:

Here's a shot in the dark, mate. Uninstall Physx (Add/Remove Programs) then reinstall Physx from the nvidia site. http://www.nvidia.co..._9.09.0814.html

Then run DA: Origins setup.exe -- see if it gets you past the error

One more thing to try if you have installed the EADM as suggested and it won't let you play:

Navigate to the bin_ship directory and look for a file called
EACore_App.ini

open it with a txt editor and delete the contents.  Save and then try again to play.

It should shame Bioware that the community has to fix this problem for them. They made the patch!

I have been playing Bioware games forever and you would be surprised at the dedication everyone has with their products.  They have the best following in their forums that I have ever seen in a company.

I am glad I caught this before patching my game. Seriously, I have one other question ? Why is it that we can DL DLC from in game but, not patches ? LOL that is the only reason I didn't install the patch because I reallly didn't know about it. I think Bioware when they fix this Patch they should put it on the In- Game Downloader and use it for future updates.
