The Play button works for me, but then it just throws out this error.  I have the game via impulse and just updated it.  Tried all the workarounds just in case.  No go.

exactly the same situation - Windows Vista ultimate , 64 bit

Impulse purchased Dragon Age Origins , played fine until yesterday. Installed patch today and get "The game cannot launch because of misconfiguration. Please reinstall your game and try again"

So can you tell us what is that 'misconfiguration" - is it the VC++ part or the reactive the game part? How can we tell them apart?

I already tried the vcredist_x86.exe solution mentioned - does not work.

We (the main three who've been working this issue end-user-side) think that there's something wrong with the Impulse patch. The working theory is that they(impulse) were not aware of the issue with the VC++ and something with their installer compounded the problem. Best sit and check with the Impulse people though as we aren't at a place to do anything about that problem.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

I'm currently reinstalling the game, as suggested. But it's a long download to get running again.

I posted the solution the misconfiguration on the impulse board. The ini file had bad paths.

Now when I launch I am greeted by the sign in again and the game does not allow me to register my key. Is this an anti piracy solution forcing everyone to resend they keys to support?

So the impulse daorigins.exe requires you to imput the key before it will run?

JironGhrad, thank you and your friends for helping work on the problem. Its good to know its on impulse and DAO together, last time they had a problem it was quickly resolved within a day, hopefully the workarounds i tried dont break my game even further :-(

Dateranoth- i tried your fix with the erasing of text EACore_App.ini and it did not work, thank you for trying though

FWIW, this is not true. Here's a post from a Stardock staffer that confirms they were not only aware of the problem but that their patch includes the updated VC++ files: http://forums.impulsedriven.com/368514/get;2438017

Sim is correct about the bad paths in the EACore_App.ini file; however, I am not gutsy enough to risk further problems by correcting them myself. I think I'll wait for Stardock to release an updated patch that avoids the subsequent registration issues that Sim is reporting (or wait for others to try it and report _not_ having the registration issue).

Yes , when I hit "Play" I am greeted by the EA application asking me to activate my game again. It rejects my user name and password (which I know are right since I am logged in right now to type this message). It also rejects the key I got from stardock.

this is very annoying .

could you please tell us who to email for support (besides stardock)? i think the fault lies with EA here that forced reactivation

By the way, the ea activation program doesn't accept special characters like ^ & * etc... in its password. If you normally use a strong password using those characters like I do, I had to change my password to not use them to get it to work.

Since you clearly can handle technical stuff, I just thought it was likely that you did use strong passwords.

Has anyone tried running the patch that you can get here?  I reran it even though it was already patched and it just installed again.  Might correct whatever impulse broke.  Im reaching but its worth a try as its a small download and easy.

I think the EA program does accept special characters but only certain ones... I have one in my password and it works fine

Thanks, no special characters in a password. I think EA forced reactivation of the game (for whatever reason) and did not account for Impulse/Stardock - now my own account is rejected and activation does not work. However , when I launch configure the game, it does report my key correctly. so it is something in the online system on the EA/bioware side.

I will give startdock a day before archiving current build and re-downloading everything (10+ hours).

I hope the keys for DLC (including the one I bought from bioware from within the game) still work..

good luck and good night to everyone

sorry guys - unrelated - any idea why Bioware registered Game promotion page

http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php

shows the symbols for the promos (dragon blood armor ,etc) but says unrecognized item for everything. Is this because I used impulse?

unrecognized symbols are the ones you don't have unlocked for whatever reason... there are items from the Dragon Age Journeys game as well as pre-order bonus items

I've run into the "misconfiguration" error on a Vista HP 64 box as well. My C++ libraries were fully updated to begin with, and I've double checked, so it's not that. Any other suggestions?

did you run the ATL update nw112? these are seperate from the c++ libraries as it's a security fix for the SP1

^^^ I'm updated to today's MS build for SP2, actually. If the ATL update is part of SP1, I've got it. At any rate, the Windows updater shows only silverlight lacking, and I don't want that.
