Worked fine thanx. >thumbs up<

I am using XP64 and DL'd the   vcredist_x86.exe  file and can now get game to load. I saw _x64.exe and _IA64.exe files are they necessary for XP64?

same question. The x86.exe file is for both 32-bit and 64-bit OS's, correct?

yeah, you don't need the other 64bit ones, though installing the x64 one isn't going to hurt anything.

do you download the x86 update even with 64-bit OS?

Thanks.  Missed the question in the search and while I was postingImage IPB

Yes, sir. You want the x86 (32-bit) version, not the 64-bit. Doesn't matter if you're running a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows.

Installing the 64-bit version won't hurt you-- just won't solve you issue.

yes, x86 for 64-bit OSs too but you should get the x64 one as well

Sooo, noticing the still rather large influx of posts asking about patch problems. Should I rename this thread to something else? Any suggestions for what will catch the eye?

It's that people don't bother reading before posting... I don't think there's much we can do that hasn't been done, but I have a friend who knows some of the Bioware people through DLA (from NWN), gonna see if I can get him to take a different route to getting this stickied

I'll try this. I am surprised that something this obvious made it through testing.

Good luck. I've PM's multiple mods including the Chris Priestly ( actually sent him one last thursday ) and haven't heard anything back from any of them.  I can only assume they are so swamped in PMs that our reasonable requests are lost among the BS they must get.

Yeah, that's been my assessment as well but I think my buddy might have a more direct line of attention, worth a shot anyway... I also messaged Chris Priestly last night so maybe that will help too

I hear ya mate, but bear in mind, a legitimate copy of Windows with a properly functioning Windows Update would have automatically downloaded and installed the latest C++ Runtime Libraries when it was released via Windows update nearly 5 months ago.

Nope. I got a legit copy of Vista and didn't get this patch - which is odd because I remember by comp downloading patches almost every day for a week after Vista SP2 patch. My guess is this was some sort of patch only developers would have needed.

Go into WIndows Update. Click View Update History. Do you have a slew of patches installed every 15 days or so?

In my case, I wasn't guessing. A quick view through the Windows Update logs tells me it was released that way along with the dev posts on MSTechnet.

Not at my computer at the moment, but my recollection is more like at least once a week.

July

I got it close to but before the Windows 7 release. I forget if it was optional or pushed.

You should have updates installed in July - one of them C++ Runtime Library ATL Security Update. There's the money shot.

I have it listed as installed on five systems here.

To the other poster Vista SP2 was released in late March 2009.

it's optional... there are still machines not running SP2 for Vista... it came out end of July... I know cause I updated my mother-in-law's system when we were there (came out a few days before we left on the 1st of Aug) Windows update alone isn't really adequate anyway in my opinion... as it leaves a lot of gamer-necessary things sitting as optional. .Net framework updates are particularly bad that way; you get them if you've already install the .Net stuff but if not, you miss them completely which is no big deal until you install that brand new game that "requires" .Net 3.5 and it's not part of the install package

Ok so same problem and have tried all the fixes mentioned. Game locks up as soon as the DA screen with the characters comes up. I did get to play the game for a couple of hours yesterday, logged off steam then came back on and started running into the problem.

Maybe the auto update for steam did me in you think?

as to SP2 a quick search shows that there were some systems released with SP2 (from Dell and other Manufacturers) as early as the beginning of May and that the Wave 0 (certain opt-in users, apparently based on prior download history) was released on May 28th 2009. General availability via Windows update was enabled at the end of July
