Why not let us play as a Squad Mate to add some more fun to the game? No matter how funky your team is, you're still always playing as yourself. But if we could play as a Squad mate in combat, it would add a whole new level to the game. As soon as any interaction comes up, you'll be in control of Shepard again, but move control back to the Squad Mate as soon as it's over.

Just an idea.

Wait, I'm not fully understanding this post. Like, you can choose which character you're controlling?

In the E3 trailers for Mass Effect 1, that was a feature of the game. I suspect it's absence implies that it was duly considered, and removed for good.

The point of ME is that you play as Shepard.

Personally I love my Shepard - we have formed a bond and I intend to take him to Mass Effect 3 and beyond. I don't want to play as anyone else, and i think that feature would create a disconnect between me and Shepard. Either that or id never use it. Just my opinion

Do you mean that we should be able to take control of squad mates as in Kotor or Dragon Age? Because I 100% agree with you there. If you mean play through the game as a particular squadmate, I think that would miss the whole point of the game.

IMO that would drastically change the gameplay... with the way its set all NPCs have infinite ammo, so i personally bring a party of snipers for quick kills, if they allowed you to play as squadmates then the party members would all have ammo limits, i would then choose those who use assault rifles just because of their large ammo capacities. it would also make the game much easier because you can easily co-ordinate your tactics and make it less realistic at that... then there also is the aspect of a second chance, if shep falls in combat, no biggie, just switch control over to another character...

i personally would rather have it the way it is

Yeah, just like in KOTOR, and if you are BONDED with Shepard, you can just keep on playing as him, but if you want some more variety, you could swap over and do battle as one of the Squad Mates.

i like this but it should be put towards 3player co-op missions w/ firends or squads of 3v3v3v3 for multiplayer battles in me3! the me universe already has factions: blue suns, blood pack, eclipse, alliance, salarian stg, c-sec and others.

squad leader could even pull up a squad wheel to tell squad members where to move, who to attack, which powers to use and on who.

I like only being able to control Shepard personally. I'd like to see some missions were you play as your squad members without Shepard like the Joker mission. What I'd rather see though is a game were you play as your squad before they meet Shepard. For example you'd play as Garrus on C-Sec or Wrex fighting his dad or doing some of his mercenary missions. The only problem would be that you couldn't really make any decisions.

i can totally see this! i dunno about a whole game but maybe as flashback missions or something. it would also be a good to way to get people who might stick to one or two classes to play as an entirely different class.

I don't want to actually control my squad, but I would like to be able to switch to their POV in the radial menu. It's irritating when I know a squad member has line of sight on an enemy but I can't have them target it with specific abilities because I don't personally have line of sight myself.

We had an idea like this on my BioWare Madness polls. The thought was that after ME3, BioWare could make a spinoff that has one part dedicated to playing as other team members doing their thing.  Play as Wrex uniting the clans on Tuchanka, play as Tali on the Flotilla, Miranda escaping her father, Thane as an assassin, Liara as an archaeologist/working for the Shadow Broker, Jacob as a Corsair and joining Cerberus, Mordin building the Genophage and curing the plague on Omega, etc.

Something that I think would be cool for ME 3, assuming you saved the council and regain your spectre status, is putting Garrus forward as a spectre. That might then lead to playing as Garrus during a side mission, might make for a nice change of pace...
