Well to a large extent I consider it a psychology game. In my mind, $5 is an impulse buy threshold for a minor DLC like this. More than that and I start to examine my purchases.
There isn't a lot of direct evidence for this, since digitally distributed DLC is a new thing; I have a suspicion however that their total revenue capture would be fairly close at either a $5 and $7 price point. There's a tendency to overprice games in this industry and a lot of money is left on the table as a result.
Has Bioware run any experiments with holding sales on Dragon Age DLC? I suspect they could get some good data on how much volume they're leaving on the table at their price point fom that.
On a similar note I'm a bit surprised they haven't offered DLCs like the Blackstorm or Incisor for sale yet. The Blackstorm in particular is a lot of fun, and definitely worth a couple bucks on its own.
