Well when it comes down to it it's a decision between saving a boring but useful squad member, or a useless racist, annoying, boring b*tch that likes sh*tty poety.

Hell she even tells you how useless she's going to be in a fight against the reapers.

Plus I never liked how she voluntered Kaidan to set off the Nuke.

So choice was easy for me but I would imagine most choose her simply because she has ******.

Hey, I resent that.

Ash + immunity is almost impossible to take down before unity recharges ... so she's very useful.

For getting shot up repeatedly.

Male Shep, kept Kaiden alive just cause i never had before.

I kept Ash alive the first time because she was setting the nuke and Kaiden was telling me to. Every subsequent time I've killed her, she's racist, rude, into poetry and religious. While poetry and religion aren't a bad thing i prefer Kaidan, he never seemed like a whinger to me, you have to tell him to whinge, he's always telling you he doesn't want to waste your time. Ash was the more useful squad member in ME1, but Kaidan is a sentinel and Miranda was the most useful squad member in ME2, so assuming we get Kaidan or Ash back in ME3...gogo Kaidan.

I saved him, like having another biotic to tlak to, plus hes basically Carth from KOTR so i had to save him

I only tend to save one or the other when I'm romancing them, so it's a bit random at times with me... I've had Male-Sheps end up with Kaidan surviving, and Femme-Sheps end up with Ash surviving. Due to playing more female than male Shepards though, I think I've wound up with Kaidan survivng slightly more often, though it's perhaps something to do with Ash's opinions on the 'bugeyed monsters' that leads me to leave her sat on the nuke.

Talking smack about Wrex is kinda asking for it in my book

kaidan kind of bored me and I really liked Ashley, so first playthrough I saved her, everyone since however is just random

I really should do a playthrough where Ash lives. Romance Liara. Do you still get an email from her if you didn't romance her? She's a good character, even if she says things that ****** me off sometimes. She still seems like somebody I could get drunk with.

FemShep and Kaiden lives. He has bud potential but Ash is a motormouth with too many issues. "I can't tell the animals from the aliens" - last nail in the coffin. Go hug a nuke, Ash.



Ever notice how Kaiden and Jacob encounters are sooo similar tho? Kaiden assumes right off the bat that Shep's hot for him. And Jacob pulls out the sleaze in Shep. Devs greased the LI wheels. But not MY Shep.

My femsheps typically save Ashley because:



1. The game has a near automatic assumption of romance with him if you're not flat-out rude to him, so I Virmire him just to be sure.

2. My sheps are mostly caster types and never soldiers, so Ash is useful for the pure muscle. (additionally, my main shep is a Sentinel and does NOT appreciate competition)

3. Let's face it, the only thing that makes Luitenant Bland stand out from NonSquadCrewmember#6 is his L2 headache winges. Ash maybe abrasive, but at least she HAS a personality.



Kaidan only survived on two saves: the one where my Engineer romanced him (kinda regretting that now, though), and the one where my sole maleshep Virmired Ash for romance avoidance reasons.

In my current 4 ME1 run-throughs I’ve killed him 3 times. That one time was for the romance option fir my female Shepard.

My Renegade femShep also saved Ashley



1. As another Sentinel Kaidens abilities were largely redundant to the mission so far as she was concerned.



2. Ash was settting the nuke and that had priority.



3. Ash's views on aliens were a hell of a lot closer (albeit more extreme) to her own than anyone elses on board.

I saved Kaiden, seemed like the right thing to do...

Also I should mention that he was arming the nuke, and I didn't want to take any chances. Yeah...they say it can't be turned off once its set, but I didn't want to take any chances because that base had to be destroyed. Also the fight scene with Saren inside the little "pool" area is really epic.

If kaiden is making a come back as a squad mate in 3, wouldnt his 'sentinel' type be like another Miranda?(assuming gameplay doesnt change too much and you will most likely to have another overpowered squadmate at your disposal.)



So I am going to keep kaiden alive in my current run. ;D
