So...How many actually kept Kaiden alive?

I kinda have mixed feelings about Kaiden really, i used to hate him but after listening to his long backstory so many times he sorta grew on me. I dunno, maybe it's because he doesn't continously whine about his dead wife(Carth) but i can see where he's coming from.

Staff Lt. Alenko was the superior officer, a biotic and tech expert and was escorting a group of Salarian STG members to the air defence tower at the time i was forced to make the decision.
Given the choice between one NCO and a group of individuals lead by a powerful biotic officer, there were two choices. One emotional one, one logical one. I chose the latter. My Shep will still be haunted by the fact that Ash had sisters, a loving family, many who are going to miss her, some who may even blame him. The galaxy is a lesser place for Ash's death but, at the very least, in death her family has finally found its war hero and its vindication.

Ashley. Sent her with the Salarians, so when she was pinned on the tower with the Salarian's it made sense to get her and the Salarian's, because Kaidan was by himself. (Thats a lot of Salarian's in one sentence)
It was a numbers decision. Save the many at the expense of the one.
Which is precisely why you should defend Kaiden and not Ashely (or whomever you sent to guard the bomb.....but Kaiden does have more technical expertise). It didn't matter so much that Kaiden was my character's romance interest, yet it did somewhat taint the love scene that occurs later on. <_<

On my Renegade playthrough, I followed what every commander who doesn't let personal feelings involve in their choice and left her behind.

I actually get the impression that Kaidan was the one who is "supposed" to survive: a dead Ash will generate a galactic news message that she posthumously got a a bunch of alien medals for her participation, (along with a hilarious misquote that makes her sound very egalitarian and cosmopolitan regarding aliens) while Kaidan gets zip. At least I've never heard him mentioned yet in my "Kaidan dead" games.
It's mentioned that there's a charity or something in his name that sends child biotics to the Ascension project.

I didn't really care about either Kaidan or Ashley, but I thought I might as well let the girl live -- and Kaidan volunteerd for the job anyway so bye bye Kaidan.

I was just wondering, if you are a Male Shep, how many of you have kept Kaiden alive instead of Ashley?

In all seriousness though, much as I felt my Shepard had to dislike her for being racist, I thought she had one of the more interesting and believable backstories in the game.

Oddly because I like to see the romance options in ME2 largely unfettered by prior entanglements I'm often importing the few chars that happened to kill Ash [primary LI] ...

I only saved Kaidan on one playthrough, because it was a female Shepard that had him as a romantic interest, all 4 of my other playthroughs I happily killed him. I couldn't stand that whiny Holden Caulfield wannabe. Ashley may have been a xenophobe, but she never acted like some emo kid; besides, Kaiden complained so much because he was living in pain, I cured his (and everyone else's) suffering.
Says the guy with the Thean Avatr just pointing out that Thean does go emo a lot <_<

I probably kept him alive three or four times. Wish I did more, I grow tired of seeing Ashley with all my imports.
Take all of Ashley's dialogue and make Carth read them outloud.

eh, Thane might act emo sometimes, but most of the time he's a bad-ass. Besides, I found his spirituality to be interesting, nothing about Kaiden really intrigued me.RyrineaNara wrote...

I only romanced Ashley once..she's annoying and a xenophobe...though I do admit romancing her does open her up to be a lot more likable.
Kaiden is just kinda there..
so it usually depends on how I send them out.

Male Shep, kept Kaidan alive.
I have no animosity towards Ashley, but I felt that because she was
a) Lesser rank than KaidanNot a biotic like Kaidan
c) Believed in God and heaven
d) wanted to redeem her family name
Ashley was the better choice for me personally.
Holy ****.. I had the same reasons (except d).
