I think their next contest should be an ARG, though if they couldn't anticipate people linking pages as images, I'm not sure they have the necessary skill to make a good ARG, which encourages people to find different ways of reaching the goal.

Frankly, I like the idea of getting points based on owning their games, and knowledge about their games. The ARG is a good concept...but they typically benefit those with a particular type of knowledge (ie programming), and it would also count against those that didn't have the same amount of freetime. It could be done...but I'm not sure they'd be willing to put in the effort.

Beyond that...Chris' contest is a good idea...but it should be one question a night instead...so you don't end up screwing people over for having jobs/school. 1 submission per account, done through the social site.

How about points based on the achievement points we have in game? ME2 and DAO both hook up to the social site...keeping track of achievements should be fairly easy, and would actually encourage people to play your games.

Yeah, that would be cool, they could even release little DLC packs like they did yesterday for April Fool's. I thought up the ARG idea mostly because it is one of the few things I can think of that would be impossible to cheat by most senses of the word. Of course, actually keeping on top of these things and making them clear would be nice too (I guess that's a bit much to ask of a community organizer) but if we can't have that, do something that eliminates cheating. Plus, sites like Kotaku love ARGs, so you'd still get your marketing.

In Canadian law, it would no longer be a contest but a lottery.

Well Canadians can't participate in this one anyway, so it's not like it would've done any harm. They are going to have to tailor the contest to the laws of their demographics, but that could work in some places.

BioWare is a Canadian country though. Wouldn't they have to abide by Canadian laws?

If that were true I can't see why canadians couldn't participate in this contest.

Tell you what- I'm pretty pleased that I stayed transparent through this whole thing. Does that mean that I think it's be fair to purge all my points from the clicky? If it evens the field and makes the auctions more interesting, while hand-slapping the people doing things they know they shouldn't have done? Sure.

Let's be honest, this whole thing for US was fun. For BioWare it was a great marketing tool, but I think that ship has run it's course. Let's give everyone their 1500-2000 points,(500 per day) and purge the rest. I'd lose...sigh...more than I would want to, but if that means people will be more receptive to things like this in the future, then so be it.

Ever notice how all contest always have "no purchase necessary"? I'm guessing you are required to have that and basing it off of achievements (while much better) might not be legal.

This event is fully sponsored by EA based in USA.

Instead of purging why not give everyone who didn't use it, if they can indeed track this, free bonus tokens to bring them back up to speed?

False those who cheated are at like 30k and we will never catch up with them.

Those types are only eligible for two prizes each..or did I misunderstand?  Isn't that the most you can win?

A purge or a penalty, both work.

The referal points was not a good idea to begin with. Right off the bat, you're rewarding people for trolling, posting spam on this and other boards, and just outright encouraging making people annoying.

I'm not a big fan of "Chris' Challenges" either...as there's no real criteria...it's just "get lucky". However...it's not exploitable, so I'm not going to really complain about it...suffice to say, I'm annoyed that I missed out on several days of it because of the fact that I have a job.

As it is, despite owning every game BioWare has made since NWN, I'm already out of the running for some of the better prizes. In short, I'm being punished for: having a job, not having a twitter account (I ended up making one just for this), and not spamming forums.

I completely agree with this. It is luck for the challenges, and I agree with it basically being punishment for having a job. Kind of unfair if you ask me :/

Edit: Also, I support the purge.

Either purge everyone's or find some way to only kick out all points gotten through means that bioware doesn't like.

A full wipe of everyone who used the img method just to try to keep up is inacurate, and a full wipe of only those that used it on this forum is unfair.

They don't even need to purge if you think about it, they could just set everyone's referral score to 15k or some other arbitrary number instead, that would work just as well.

all my points are from the basics and then some link exchange threads spread out online and even with that my point total isn't all that great. They can do what they want, but all I ask is that I have enough to have a fair chance at at least getting a game out of the auction.

honestly, i say purge all points and just do a straight up sweepstakes. every one of these point auctions/purchase things get screwed over by cheaters.

Agreed. Because some people have been cheating, and some did unknowingly. Taking everyone's referral points may sound bad, but I don't feel it is because of this. Then, some people would be disgruntled, but IDK just my two cents.

Yeah, I thought I was doing well at over 10K points (legit, yo!) and now I'm thinking I'll be lucky to snag a poster because I wasn't looking for a way to cheat. Cheaters always prosper, dammit.

Right now you're probably about 15k points away from even those people that haven't used this method (the ones with blogs and those that moderate big forums)

At the moment you have no chance to win anything. WIth a purge, you're back on even footing, and if you can devise a good source of clicks, you just might have a shot.

I used the img tags (along with the "legit" spamming methods). I've got 8693. Hardly prospering.
