Dragon Age Insanity is pretty damn easy.

@greghorvath
platform fights for vanguard are a pain. You have to position yourself in the walkway between platforms and not behind cover to reliably lock on.

What I love about insanity is that it forces you to think, learn and adapt. I got stuck on that level so took a break. When I came back and restarted the mission, I took sniper rifle to take out the scions with a few headshots to stop me getting wiped out in the crossfire, and also 'fixed' my charging problems

Also with charging you need to know when to charge and when not to. Theres a great vanguard guide on this forum and some excellent youtube vids - check them out for great variations on how to play more effectively.

Everything becomes too easy in ME2 when one has a sniper rifle and an abundance of cover.  Combat simply becomes a game of patience and inevitability rather than action.

As for Vanguard charging, I will swear by Area Charge for as long as Mass Effect is playable.  Yeah, heavy charge hits harder, but area charge knocks down groups.

Anyone else think insanity is too easy?

Any 'fun' builds to make it more challenging?

Play more aggressively.

Edit: Yes, it's too easy. (No, I'm not an amazing player.)

I have been finding bugs, glitches, and exploits in my Hardcore run so far with my adapt that I am sure can help me or hurt me in insane mode.
Latest bug (and I am not sure if EVER mentioned) is on the "NORMANDY WRECKAGE" DLC you can revist after completeing it, place the monument, then fall into outerspace so Shepard can die twice in the Normandy (Go to outerspace and watch the world upside down is what happens).

This is NOT NORMAL!

Area does nothing unless you spend the time to remove ALL the defenses of the clustered enemies first. On anything below hardcore i can see Area being usefull, but when playing full agression, you dont take the time to strip defenses first.

IMO Insanity CAN be easy, but i still tend to die once or twice a mission. I play agressive with ANY class. Sure, i could hug cover and take 10 minutes to down 3 guys safely.. I prefer to storm ahead and try out new ways to kill stuff. And i doubt alot of people had a easy time the first time they played insanity. After 2+ runs, when you know the spawns, the cover , and have a good feel for how bad things hurt, its pretty much a cake walk. My 3rd vanguard playtrough so far counts 2 deaths, both charge bugged.

I use Area Charge on my Vanguard on Insanity.  A group of staggered enemies shouldn't be considered nothing.

Indeed not but do you not think its more useful to get 100% base shields over 75% & slow motion to help line up a headshot?

Depends if you need it or not.  Used to its strengths, it can be really good.  It can get you into to tons of trouble too, but I like staggering multiple enemies with one Charge so I've had to come to terms with it.

engineer is quite hard on insanity. all you do is throw fireballs and frostbolts that do terrible damage against very high defenses

Yea i kinda worded it wrong. I tend to not see enough guys standing together to outweigh the slowmo + extra shields myself. To be honest, I have barely touched area charge so i probebly shouldnt comment on it :P

I`m actually on a soldier runthrough right now... Some parts were really painful.. When theres a lack of cover, or you have very mobile enemies, you tend to get outflanked quite fast... I have a newfound hate for Harbinger at some spots.

On my vanguard i could keep myself alive just fine by just charging him for some more shield... Soldiers can.. Well they got Adrenaline rush.. And they can place some great shots, or run away in that time, but both dont give me nearly as much survivability off course. I tried using a shield bonuspower for a while, but the cooldown on those make them quite painful. Im always ready to go to the last mission, but i still get 1 or 2 deaths atleast on recent missions. Although atleast 1 of those is very likely to be because my squad decided to move on their own, making me have to pay attention to them, and not the krogan stomping me

So me personally... i dont find it TOO easy... but ye for insanity, in some spots, and with some classes, it is quite easy. When i compare it now to a game on a normal difficulty, it feels like insanity is just a tad to brutal to being perfect difficulty (for a normal game), and normal is like extra easy with cheese

But like i said before.. Its personal playstyles that will determine peoples opinions aswell. People who like to hang back and snipe or strip(defenses... dirty dirty mind) will find it a whole lot more easier then the guy trying a vanguard on insanity for the first time

When fighting Harbinger as a Soldier on Insanity there are two easy strats to use:
-If it's only Harbinger-> Pop Adrenaline Rush, run up to him and shoot him in the face with my Assault Rifle while tanking his damage.  I always kill him before he kills me.
-If it's more than just Harbinger (and I've chosen to kill Harbinger for some reason) -> Pop Adrenaline Rush, fire on him from medium range, sidestep his slowed-down balls of fire and death.

Once you get the feel for Harbinger, he's really quite easy. Just don't:
-get hit by his stupid singularity (easy to dodge)
-Turn around and run away from him while he and 3 other collectors shoot at you.

Solo harbinger is not the problem. He just seems to like to flank me while he still has 2+ other guys shooting at me. Once he opens up, im pretty much dead

He`s dead quick enough most the time. But sometimes my shields are gone, and popping out to lay down the hurt at that time could get me killed.. and waiting for shields gives him time to close in again

Im not saying i got THAT big issues with him.. But he was the reason for most my deaths so far

The first thing to determine in most of these type of conversations that is usually not discussed until alter on if at all is 'What is your definition of too easy?'

No deaths at all?

Some deaths?

No deaths and no squad mates dead?

A similar discussion a while back one person was quite convinced it was too easy and yet he declared that the toughest part was on horizon where I died about 3 times and the collector ship where he died about 3 times as well.

Well, you all are just godlike gamers, is all I can say. I'm on my fourth playthrough, first time on Insanity, and I'm plenty challenged. And I'm using an infiltrator. Yes, it's easy enough until I run out of sniper rounds, but then I have to play zip around the cover and try not to get overwhelmed. I've yet to get through a mission without dying at least once. Then again, Mass Effect is the first "shooter" I've ever played, so it could just be my lack of experience.

On my insanity run through on soldier I used the bonus power of dominate a lot. In many cases the dominated collector would draw harbingers attention and kept him at distance.

Ye know... I forget about medigell 90% of the time :P I know how good it can be, but by the time i remember im already dead :P I should probably get used to using it more (was scared of running out, so learned to play without it) So yea, maybe i can pretty much play one handed once i start using it :P

Gonna try a adept run after this, gonna be fun ... maybe :P

Most people here had similar experiences their first time on Insanity.  It only gets easy after beating it multiple times.
This is mostly a thread for bragging.  No matter how hard a game is, there'll be nerds somewhere bragging about how easy it is.
Hell I bet there's someone on the interwebs scoffing about how easy Ninja Gaiden was.

That's not true. Insanity was obviously designed to be "beatable by most people."

Sure, a lot of people have trouble, and more won't even try it, but many who have tried it say they managed it even though they know they aren't 1337 gamerz.

There are games worth bragging about. For instance, I completed Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, on hardcore difficulty, without ever dying.

Mass Effect 2, not so much.
