I've given him every booze in the game and only got a minus one time of a -1 in dialogue and I still can't get the quest to activate for me. Does anybody know if the console commands from Origins for upping a party members approval rating works or not? Seriously. Not nearly enough gifts in the game and to have his approval rating start out at 0 in Awakening to begin with is just flat-out stupid and lazy on the developers part. What did you guys do to get his quest triggered? I have him in the low 70s and I literally can't possibly get him any higher.
Oghren 'Family Man' quest impossible?

Not impossible but can be difficult yes.
-Give him all the booze you find (obviously)
-The Toy Horse gift is important because its biggest approval gain you can get at once with him
-When you know who shows up at the keep stay out of it for the most part, except to say he is a good warrior to net some decent approval
-Recruit Sigrun, avoid having him in party when recruiting Velanna
-Scavenger hunt for dialogue objects
-When he is drunk during dialogue at the keep just play along
Even when doing all this stuff I can barely get him to around 75 approval (which is enough for his quest thankfully)
edit: took out spoilers, forgot

OP, Urshakk hit all the high points. I triggered this quest without even giving the Toy Horse to him, by doing everything else and taking every opportunity to talk to him at Vigil.
Having him start at zero approval but getting +6 approval max from "preferred" gifts seems buggy to me.
Now *Velanna* has a quest that's impossible to trigger.

I did all of that and the highest I can get is still only 73...*sigh*
Does anybody know if console commands work for Awakening or a list for them?

I gave him a bunch of gifts I imported from origins. That's was the only way I could get his approval to 75.
And yes, having his approval "reset" to 0 and then having to raise it all over again is pretty stupid. Especially since the diminishing effects of gifts DOES carry over. Hence the +6 instead of +10

I used the Golden Egg mod to get his approval rating at 100, it just seems impossible to get his sidequest without a cheat...

I gave up on him when the conversations did not go as expected
Velanna was relatively easy, as I'm a smooth talker w/ the ladies.
Drunk dorfs, I despise

take any non dlc gifts with you from origins, each of them will give a +1 to anyone.

did get his quest but was near endgame... doesn't it get activated by something in amaranthine?

andraste's grace actually nets 6 for Anders and that demon ring netted me +5 for Oghren when I brought it to awakening... so origins stuff may get you more than just +1 for awakening... I would keep that in mind

I'll have to check out that mod because I'm literally out of gifts and I'm near the end of the game. Ugh, what a pain in the you know what. I also noticed that Velanna doesn't have a quest, is that a bug or does she just not have one?
Also, how do I install the Golden Egg mod? There's no description of how to anywhere in the file and I tried unzipping it to the override folder but no luck.

I took him with me and talked to him! Shock horror! Such things can raise approval.

I ran out of gifts trying to get his approval up, ended up using the console to raise it which i really didnt like doing but wanted to see the outcome of the quest badly.

Shock! Horror! You can't talk to companions in Awakening unless something is triggered. Stop being a toolbag and pointing out the obvious. Either make yourself useful and answer my question in the previous post, complain with the rest of us about the inanity of having Oghren reset to '0' approval rating for Awakening, the fact that his gifts are bugged, or don't post anything at all.

Oghren's personal quest is hard to finish, everyone talking about it obviously made an attempt to talk to Oghren and give him gifts; the point is even if you put in a lot of effort it can be very hard to achieve compared to other companion's quests. I completed Anders' and Justice's personal quests by the end of the game but did not manage to complete Oghren's. His approval was in the late 60s or early 70s and his main quest had been broached, it was active in my quest log. I also had some deep conversations with him in the Keep throneroom. I just was unable to get him to open up enough to finish the quest.

I can get the quest to come up..I just can't seem to make Oggie happy enough to talk about it. heh
Maybe I'll try hoarding gifts..next time around see if that helps.

Doing Blight orphans quests also give him approval as well gives you an extra gift for him.

Juuuust managed to swing Oghren's approval high nuff for the quest (valenna's still remains aloof to me) the blight orphens helped and when i did sigrun's object convo in the city it netted me the last +2 points with oghren as he was luckily with us, chose the "adding eavesdroping to your list of charms" or some such got the needed aproval
Oh and i did infact use left over gifts from Origins all on Oghren too, bout 7 or so (had more but inventory limitations grr) those are the only ways i managed to get the finale of the quest at all x__x;

I too had the problem where I needed more approval to continue Ohgren's convo line (hardly a quest unfortunately). So I took him with me and it wasn't long before I could trigger a convo with him. There's a spot in every major location that can trigger something. If you haven't used it already Ohgren is triggered by the noticeboard at the bottom of the Chantry steps in Amarantine.

It's cool. It's just frustrating because it actually affects the epilogue and it's impossible to get unless you've horded gifts from Origins which I simply don't have. I did trigger the one in Amaranthine so that's out the window. There's literally no way I can get him to the 75 approval. Like I said, does anybody know anything about that golden egg mod? It doesn't even say where to install it. I tried override but no luck.

Lol yeah, I can't believe they actually charged for that stuff. Should have been free considering wtf it is and how we got jipped with Awakening.
