They should just wait for Natal, so "fans" can dust off their 20 sided dice.

Wait... I can't figure out if that is a jab at hardcore role playing gamers or casuals.

can't figure it out either.

Haven't hear much about natal, looking it up now. Potential definately, but if the tech isn't there yet, then it'll flop. Need to investigate further

Eh, maybe a bit of both.

I'm just tired of discussions turning into how BioWare should placate people because they bought Baldur's Gate by making every game the same way.

Natal is the 360's upcoming venture into motion capture, or something along those lines. I haven't looked it up in a while.

Pfft. D&D 2nd edition was a terrible rule set as a tabletop. And worse for computer games.

Baldur's Gate was the best despite the crappy system, not because of it.

I don't care about rolls or multipliers, I just want a great story. I don't think that's so eccentric.

Well, it wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular.

I just got the sneaking feeling that this was going to turn into a "dis is not a rpg no mo" argument.

ME2 is a better game. ME1 is a better space opera.
Insofar as the story of the trilogy goes, ME2 doesn't do justice.

I am assuming that this is just due to it being part 2 of 3.

ME1 was key in setting the scene, introducing fantastical locations, and a brilliant cast, in addition to the introduction to the story.

ME3 Is going to be the climax, the final hour of the story, with said brilliant characters from ME1 and ME2 flourishing and returning for an almighty fight, concluding an epic story and plot, tying up all the loose ends.

ME2 was slightly more relaxed, opening up new plotlines that we all hope thread together in ME3.

What I'm basically saying, is with all games you can expect at least a little disappointment, however Bioware are one of the key devs that are constantly pro-active towards improvement. We've seen it ourselves, the acknowledged what we felt was lacking in ME1 and tweaked it for ME2. They have already addressed what the fans said worked and didn't, and what fans wanted, and have said they'll work it into ME3.

Bioware know what they are doing.

Your hatred of Tali proves you're probably not the guy to listen to.

Fair enough

You talimancers, you got your own thing going, you don't apologize for it, and it works for you right on.

Why are you people still in this thread? It 1/4 trolling (look at the title), 1/8 talimancer hate, 5/8 4am drivel.

edit

also, i don't hate tali, I liked her in ME1 and was hoping they'ld make her and LI in Me2. I just view the talimancer subcult with a bit of disdain.

this thread was made in poor judgement, i'll admit that.

Not realy, if you are going to make the combat system shooter base it needs to play like a shooter. ME gameplay was horrid. ME2 fixed that by a long shot and I love how people like the OP act like they are speaking for everyone. Majority of people loved and perfer ME2 then ME.

While I have no doubts that a majority of people prefer ME2 over the original, I still have my doubts that a majority of fans who came into the ME fandom via the original game prefer ME2 over the original. At the very least even if they do they usually at least admit that ME2 changed too much and/or is lacking in certain aspects.

You do know not everyone liked the first ME right because even with it's good story the gameplay was just bad. There have been topics, polls, and other stuff and ME2 always comes on top. The people who think ME2 sucked or perfer ME are at a minority.

Can you explain what sort of things the "fans" influenced in ME2 that make you think it is "rubbish"?

I liked the gameplay in Mass Effect and it has a Metacritic score of 91% for X360 version. So guess what, your opinion that the "gameplay was just bad", is not everyones opinion. That's something that you seem to constantly accuse other people of doing:

The question of whether or not the 'majority' of people like something doesn't mean sh!t to those people that don't like it. What's your point? Are you trying to make the case that one persons subjective opinion about whether or not they like a game is somehow wrong?

I can't stand Miranda. You seem to have a great deal of affection for 'Miri'. Which one of us is objectively right? Are you going to pull some meaningless poll numbers out of your butt and claim the majority love 'Miri' and that I'm wrong to hate her?

You got to be kidding, Its to early for this ****. The Metracritic score means notihng, you have to read the reviews. Every review complained about the combat system, the inventory, the MAKO, the texture pop-ins and such.ME2 fixed that.Bioware goesx by majority when it it comes to making a game. Look at the MAKO. Only a minority liked it, so should they keep the MAKO in just because some people like it? No, don't bring characters into this because it is alot diffrent. Gameplay was a mess in ME. Why do you think Bioware re-did the whole combat system? It's because there was alot of complaints.

Why you brought up characters is beyond me, but seeing as Tali was added just for the fan base I would say yes Bioware listens to the majority, not the minority. It has nothing to do with right or wrong, it has to do with how people enjoy it and like it.

Are people seriously calling ME2 'rubbish' in comparision to ME1? I fully support subjective opinion, but the combat was smoother, the character development was better (granted the plot didn't make epic forward leaps, but it was still thoroughly enjoyable), the inventory system was gone.... OK, there are things which I miss from ME1, and there are things in ME2 which irk me, and I can fully understand why some people might have preferred some of the systems from ME1, but I think to call any of it 'rubbish' is doing the entire series a great disservice. Different, yes. 'Not as good', maybe (in personal opinion), but 'rubbish?'

Now, as I said, it's all down to personal taste and preference, but there seems to be a lot of evidence that you can call ME2 a great game objectivly speaking as well. And the odd bit of fanservice doesn't seem to be changing that from a lot of 'outsider' opinions. (mind you, having started FF13, I can fully empathise with you for being disappointed in a game you love. Sorry, dude.)

I don't know what your problems are.

ME1 was a good game. I really liked it.

ME2 was goddamn awesome! I loved it.

If they keep this trend up ME3 is going to be a groundshaker.

I don't give a rats butt which squaddies are there and which are not, as long as the game, the story and the atmosphere are as good as in ME2 or even better.

Of course I'd like to see several squadmates come back (see sig) or even all, but if Bioware likes to exchange all of them and it makes sense in the end... hell, why not?
