Don't you think it would be pretty lame if we would have to start over with new squadmates AGAIN?

I'd rather have the squadmates from Mass Effect 1 back, like Liara, Wrex, etc., and some of the surviving squadmates from Mass Effect 2, like Garrus, Tali, all the ones that are really loved by the community.

I hated the fact that I had to start with new squadmates in Mass Effect 2, I recruited Tali and Garrys as quickly as possible and always took them with me on missions.

What do you guys think about this?

Maybe 1 or 2 newbies, but for most of them I'd rather have existing characters, yeah. Liara, Garrus, Tali, Jacob, Miranda, Thane, Jack, Ashley/Kaiden. They're potential romances so they probably have to be in there. Hoping for Legion and Mordin too.

And hoping somehow for a Hanar or Volus or Varren or something...

Or maybe an Elcor. He could be like the new, slow-speaking, organic HK-47.

I agree. So much of ME2 was about your recruiting your squad, so it would seem a little pointless if at least half didn't return. Most of the ME1 team also should return. Seeing Wrex again was one of the most unexpectedly warm moments of ME2. Bioware is always talking about how interconnected the series is, and it would be great to have your old team at your side and ready to go when Shep faces off against the Reapers.

However, given the fact that you might go into ME3 with a severely depleted squad, a few new teammates would be nice. Blasto, anyone?

I'd really like the old Mass Effect 1 team to return, purely because of the great time I had with that team.

I actually like meeting new characters in games, but dislike drawing out the recruitment process. This is easily rectified by situations like Kaidan, Ashley, Jacob, and Miranda where you meet them in the very first mission.

However, if you have all your squadmates from ME1 and ME2 available, adding more just seems overkill. I suspect some of those squadmates from the first two games won't be available in ME3 for various reasons -- some of those squadmates being ones I dearly love, too. But part of good storytelling is letting the characters around you evolve, too, so if I have to give up Wrex because he needs to lead the Krogan army, so be it.

I don't see how any of the ME2 squadmates can have a major role in ME3 since any of them could have died on the suicide mission.

But I hope Bioware makes it work, and not another Lazarus project please, for Shepard or any other ME2 squadmate. Finding out who Archangel was was one of my favorite moments in ME2, and having 2 of your squadmates from ME1 was a nice touch.

Yeah...but I also thought that there was a certain drama/realism/poignant truth to the fact that people move on and have their own existences and the universe doesn't completely revolve around Shepard.

Which makes the reunions Shepard does have with Garrus and Tali all the more powerful.

I think the time seemed better with the old team, because there was more dialogue with them during downtime on the Normandy, rather than most of the "getting to know them" be wrapped up into a single loyalty mission.  The ME2 characters aren't as "chatty."  And for example with Jacob, as FemShep, if you don't want to romance him, your only option is simply not to talk to him, which is unfortunate.

On a personal note as far as returnees, Liara seems so changed that I liked her even less, give me former asari commando Shiala anyday.

I agree, a couple new ones would be fine. I would rather spend a majority of the time going through the story than picking up 10 new people to replace the old ones. Maybe they'll make it so you can select a certain number of people to be in your squad and let you pick who it would be comprised from those characters in ME1 and ME2. Or if you let a lot of squadmates die in ME2, give you a chance to recruit new ones. The choice between old squadmates and new ones to replace those that died would also add to the replay value.

I would like to play alone, no squadmates. Most of them ususally suck so much it destroys the immersion.

Well on my Renegade MaleShep, my entire screen is red. Jack and Morinth are the only two that are still alive on my team (intentional, obviously). So unless some characters from ME1 are coming back to fill in the gaps, I'm sure that they are going to have to introduce a few new characters because of the sort of hole that was dug from the option for each character to die on the suicide mission.

Not that I would mind running the whole game with just Jack and Morinth, but I can't see you starting with a full squad - thus, I don't see how this would work out.

I vote no new squadmates, except Shiala if that ever happened although I seriously doubt it will. There's plenty to choose from already.

Kaiden/Ashely and Liara.... if you killed your whole team off your stuck with them.  Your choice, they shouldn't and won't invest alot of resources to fill the gap for you.  You made a choice, and can certainly play through ME3 that way, but there would be no consiquence to your actions if you just got replacements.  I think that people who try out that file for import will be stuck with a few team-mates and a very empty Normandy.

In addition, I feel that ME3 will feel like an expansion in regards to how it starts. You don't get a lot of the learning the story arc/gameplay but rather jump right into the action. ME2 deviated away from the Reaper threat and dealt mostly with recruitment/loyalty missions to the extent that I think it's just getting that out of the way for ME3, letting them focus on a dire threat and our heroics to stop it.

I just want some of my old squadmates back. I honestly don't think that Samara or Legion will be in your squad in ME3, instead replaced by Ashley/Kaidan and Liara. I don't think Wrex will join your team... he's doing important work on Tuchanka. It's highly unlikely that he can just drop everything to join us no matter how much we want it.

On another note, the only new squadmate I want to see is Kal' Reegar

That's the thing, though. What if I didn't make the choice, and was just so terrible at the game that I ended up killing off my whole squad but two of the members unintentionally? I doubt they will hinder ME3 like that for people that are just starting the series at #3. I'm pretty sure there will be a few new squadmates.

Also, are you suggesting that you start the game with the full squad of Liara etc.? I highly doubt that but we shall see. And I sincerely hope that if we are stuck with Kaiden/Ashley that there will be an option to kill them off also.

Why wouldn't Legion stick around? It spent years tracking down Shepard, I don't think it would want to leave after two missions together.

Agree with OP. ME3 shouldn't focus much on team building as ME2 already covered that( for the ME2 squad-mates, at least)

Makes you wonder though, who will be the squad-mates for ME3's default shepard, like how ME2 decides who you killed off in their default shep. Miranda and Jacob again???

I'll Agree with the OP, I  want to have ME 1 and two squad mates back instead of making new characters for ME3. However, I don't mind, if we have new character I just want some of the old characters back in action.

Yeah, ME2 focused too much on squad building that it would be disappointing if not some of them stayed.

There are only maybe three new squad mates that I would like to have possitive about a Batarian squaddie and maybe some fromthe new races they may have in ME3. The rest would be Garrus, Grunt (don't get me wrong I love Wrex but he has duties to attend to), Mordin, Thane, Samara (Liara scares me now), Legion completely, Kal'Reegar, Ashley, and Zaeed

Not having ME2 character back would be a disaster.
