Thanks for the support of my opinion guys.
I suppose you'll start with like 2-3 squadmates, and then pick the rest up.
BioWare themselves say that Mass Effect is about the development of the characters in it, so it wouldn't make sense if they had new squadmates in every new installment in the series, would it?
I suppose you'll get back your old team from Mass Effect 1, and some of the survivors from Mass Effect 2.
Or maybe we'll get to choose?
Like, we get a list of people in the beginning, possible squadmates, and we can make the choice who to pick up and who to leave, or something in that direction.
That way the influence of choice is bigger, which is also a big part of Mass Effect.

Actually, I agree. We have tons of great characters already and there is no need to add more. This would allow more time for main missions and would make the impact of killing off your entire squad very noticeable.

Yes, and not only for the main missions, but also for more character development (especially for the Romances that were a bit ****ed because of Mass Effect 2 (Liara, Kaidan, Ashley) and the ones from Mass Effect 2 itsself (Tali, Garrus, etc.))
BioWare said that people who stayed loyal to their Mass Effect 1 romance will be greatly awarded.
This could mean everything from Marriage and Children to just more love-scenes, who knows?

Adding any new squadmates wouldn't work well to be honest. There's already so many well developed characters. Focusing on that work would be a much wiser choice.

I agree that we should no more new squadmates in Mass Effect 3, though I really would like to offer Conrad Verner a place in my team just to see his reaction hehe.

Indeed, more development on the old Squadmates would be the best choice.

we've recruited a great team in ME2.
the only way we'd lose that team is
...if bioware kills us off again for ANOTHER two years. and if that happens, i'll lose all respect for the series anyway.
i think it's likely that the ME1 and ME2 teammates will be the squaddies for ME3

What if everyone on your team died? What would you do then?

If everyone on your team died you simply won't be able to recruit them.
You'll still have the guys from Mass Effect 1 though.

So Ashley/Kaiden, if Wrex lived, Wrex, and Liara if she's not still busy with the whole Illium thing against the reapers?
I don't like those odds. Throw in a few new squadmates in ME3.

If there is no time passed between ME2 and ME3 then they most likely won't have an excuse to change class either.
That would be a problem if they modify the classes.
I for one stopped playing my ME1 class and went for another in ME2 because of the massive changes in how they are played.
For team members. Using new characters for the team makes everyone, no matter what choices they made, able to play that part of the game.
To make the game viable for everyone to use their save, they need new content that isn't focused around the characters already in the team or dead.
Although so far the choices you made in ME1 made little to no difference though. Store discounts and talking to krogan a) or
wasn't that major.
I am guessing something in between... they need to make the illusion of decisions making huge differences while still making it so people can play most of the content. (so they don't have to make a massive amount of content that rarely gets played)

If BioWare adds new squaddies for ME3, then the Normandy is going to be one crowded place. 12 people is enough, I think. Any more than that and it will start getting ridiculous.
As for a Hanar squadmate, well Thane said something along the lines of "Have you ever seen a hanar fire a gun?" Nuff said.

I'd like to see a blend of new and old characters. Part of the fun in an adventure is meeting new people so I'd be disappointed if there was no one new. It's natural as a story progresses that some people will find their paths diverge from the protagonist while others will have their goals align and will have incentive to join up. Grunt could be called to help his new clan, Tali could be made an admiral, Mordin could be called back to his intelligence team, Thane will die, etc.
I would like to see Garrus come back given he has little to aspire to at the moment outside running around with Shep. Out of everyone I'd say Garrus is the most tightly woven into the plot and a natural fit as an adventuring type. I'd also like to see Miranda stick around provided her importance in ME2 - especially on the paragon route she doesn't have much else to go back to and has lots of incentive to continue following Shep.
I doubt ME3 will have a lengthy and intentional recruitment phase like ME2 did. ME2 was very focused on recruiting a team as a critical plot point whereas I find it unlikely that ME3 will have such a well defined goal from the start like TIM had planned out.

I prefer to see more development of existing squadmates and have minimal amount of newer squadmates. At the most 2 to 3 new squadmates since you may have some ME1 squadmates back and the minimal amount of squaddies you can have from ME2 is 2 so your Shepard can survive.

Mass Effect 2 clearly was a run up to Mass Effect 3, so I doubt you'll see a lot of new faces in the next installement. The second game was about gathering allies, I presume the next will be about using those allies from the previous game(s) to combat/prepare for the Reaper threat. Having lost a bunch in Mass Effect 2 is Shepard's own fault, so I reckon you'll have to deal with the consequences if you were careless.

I'd be surprised if they didn't throw in one or two new characters for the people who got their entire squad slaughtered in ME2, but I agree - there's more than enough of them as it is, no need to clutter up the roster even more. And also, while I did like the heavily character-driven structure of ME2, I'd rather not see that repeated in ME3 - it was cool for the second part, but ME3 really needs to have a stronger main quest again.

well you will have some members of the me2 squad. if you recall the end of the game you had to pick to blow the collector bace or keep. and some members didint like that and some did well the ones who didint like your choice will probubly leave dont know why but its just a fealing i have. i also think that there will be some new squad members in me3 who they will be well i think we know them now but dont know who. on the me1 squad mates thing i think we can have some but its not forced on us like me2 squad mates. and like me1 we will not go hunting for them. they will just "come" to us. after all we have to unite the galixy not time for looking for squade mates unless we find the quest that lets us get the member but i say agen not forced we cood go through the hole game 20 times and not ever get that team member so thats what i think and unless i think diffrently or me3 comes out im sticking to it.

As far as the suicide mission and possible replacement squaddies: If you got your team killed, you should be gimped in ME 3. Those are perfectly reasonable consequences.
The third act should be about rallying the Alliance, the Council races, the quarians, the geth, the krogan and finishing the reapers.
So there are obvious story hooks for Tali, Legion and Grunt to stick around, and for Kaiden/Ashley to return. The Cerberus duo should still be around. No matter whether you side with TIM or not, they have story reasons to stick around. Garrus isn't going anywhere. Mordin could "retire" to ship scientist -- I'd be content with that.
If your ME 2 team completely survives, the only ones I could see parting ways with Shep are Samara and Zaeed.

Yes. I'd rather have them available at the start and not have to spend my time running around gathering chickens when I have a galaxy to save.

We need to develop the existing squad mates further. That is what is exciting about Mass Effect 3 - seeing how these characters end up. I don't particularly care for any new characters so much as I do for the existing ones.
