Silly me, I only now stumbled across this thread. I've been posting a link to the BioWare vs. Blizzard poll on a few character support forums, hoping to win some votes for Bio. But it's finally about time for me to sleep.
I'm simply scared of waking up to see the results tomorrow.

I'm not super afraid of tomorrow really. I'm more afraid of the final battle between Zynga and a real developer.

Well, that real developer will have lots of support from all real developers. If Zynga still wins, I'm sure that the real developer will be considered the inofficial winner by the majority of the Escapists. I just pray that next year no such ridiculous thing will happen.
If however BioWare pulls a miracle and beats both Blizzard and Zynga, I'll be the damn well happiest Volus ever. Apart from the happy Volus that I'll be once ME3 is released.

You might be onto something. Under the hype section of the Blizz vs. BioWare, I found this.

"Also...Less than 2% of total voters tweeted for their developer of choice in every match-up. We implemented Twitter this year to help everyone pull for their developer of choice and grant them a second vote, yet hardly anyone is taking advantage of it. "

Yep, definitely putting it on pretty thick there.  And there's the bit about the prizes right after that...

"As if that if that weren't enough, you have a
chance to win a prize
from either Gunnar Optiks or Astro
Gaming just by tweeting. The more times you tweet, the greater the
chance of you winning something.
Twitter is free, easy to sign up for and our rules are simple, the
rest is up to you. Imagine what the brackets may look like if
this had become commonplace
."

The bolded text is actually theirs, not mine.

A lot of Valve's voters said they'll support whoever ends up in the finals agains Zynga, so there might still be a chance. Not a huge one, of course.
I myself would be mostly happy with seeing Bio beat Blizz, at least.

I've seen plenty of upsets in my time, I'm not giving up, I'm just not getting my hopes up too high.

Just like our Volus friend mentioned, if Valve goes down, we'll have a lot of their votes to add to our own.

They're separate brackets, I believe. Unless I'm misinterpreting something, you can vote for Valve against Zynga and Bioware or Blizzard against Bioware or Blizzard.
Most people would be voting for both, so I doubt any votes would be added.

Back when Infinity Ward showed gameplay of MW2, I was excited and thought it would be awesome.

What I got was a horrible unfinished product.

Blizzard doesn't have a track record of releasing unfinished products. Or bad products in general.
MMOs excluded, of course.

What we mean is, if Valve loses to Zynga, some of the valve voters have sworn to vote against whatever Zynga is up against for the final round. Valve voters (if Valve loses) will vote for whichever wins between BioWare and Blizzard. Sort of a last act of defiance.

They're -already- voting for Bioware or Blizzard, though. Of course they'll vote against Zynga.

No. It's calling you a damn conspiracy theorist. Not many people are covering the Escapist contest, just the escapist. If BioWare was truly trying to "rig" the contest, then there would be something done today. This is their hardest fight, so they would've done something today. In fact, they took today off because it's Good Friday, respecting the fact that some people don't do anything today. Seriously. Conspiracy theories belong in movies, not video game forums.

Perhaps the Escapist contest have rules for the contestants as well? Like not advertising or promoting after the poll starts? Hence why all of Biowares actions were the day before their respective poll began.

*slaps self*

Yeah that was obvious. Still though, those Valve voters are probably just as split between BioWare and Blizzard. Once that's concluded the Valve voters will all be under one banner. That will put some more votes into one pocket. Just not as much as I was originally anticipating.

I'm still not expecting anything good to come out of this. Zynga is probably gonna win with the facebook crowd.

So.......a developer holds a contest where you can get a lot cool ****. You don't agree with that.

So that one contest was horrible enough to outweigh everything they've done since they've been around?

The fact they held a social contest only to win another social contest outweighs everything they've done in 15 years.

Cheating is cheating.

Most people can't even participate in the BioWare social contest and most people only voted once in the Escapist social contest (while others are voting repeatedly), so it's not cheating - it's just marketing on both accounts.

Money is money to them, regardless of the cause, reason or excuse.

You answered your own question. None of the other participants are giving out actual prizes and why would they hold the contest during April when the company was founded in the beginning of February? Let's look at the timeline, shall we?

The Bioware countdown began the day before the Bioware vs Epic poll in Round three began and they overwhelmed Relic by a very wide margin.

http://www.escapistm...s-VOTING-CLOSED

The Bioware countdown ended the day before the Bioware vs Relic battle begain and again won by a very wide margin.

http://www.escapistm...c-VOTING-CLOSED

Now the auction, which promises to supply items to bid every 15 minutes without a schedule to maximize community attention, will begin the day that the final round begins.

You really think that's all a coincidence? The entire Bazaar was engineered to get the community involved in the Escapist magazine event. Notice how we're even herded over to Twitter which allows for a second vote in the Escapist event?

Omfg.  It's marketing--business.  The way of the world; it is not made of cherries and rainbows.  Get over it.

Where did BioWare link to the contest? I'm quite sure they couldn't care less about what happens.

Not sure if you did, but if you advertised going for Bioware - the MMO tyrant Blizzard has a chance to lose.
