This is so...upsetting. Zynga should not be a part of this contest. Zynga may have games, but it might as well be a completely different medium (oh wait, plugins/facebook apps--it is pretty much a different medium) because every other video game developer (like our beloved Bioware) attracts a rather specific gamer a.k.a. 'hard-core gamers.' The Zynga games attract (surprise)...facebook people...a.k.a. the casual/social gamer. Why? Because it is 1) FREE and 2) another way in which they can continue to web surf and click (i.e., facebook) for hours on end. In other words, facebook ~= Zynga.
Most people do not play games (non-gamers), which is why the free, simple games are appealing to them. Combine that with the internationally successful facebook and it's more than ridiculous. Have Zynga compete against other online app. developers--not against companies that require you to:
a) like a specific type/kind of gaming or gaming at all

PAY for your games.
c) PAY for a console/PC/controllers/etc.
d) either be willing to learn or use that noggin' in a relatively demanding capacity (RTSs, RPGs, etc) and/or have good enough hand/eye (hand/mouse/whatever) coordination (FPSs, etc).
e) spend a certain amount of time to finish said game.
The demands are ridiculously higher for the hard-core gamer, not to mention that it is less marketable to..the world as a whole...
These are just a few reasons why Zynga should not be a part of this contest. They're too different and if Bioware or Blizzard loses to Zynga in the next round (because it is pretty much a lost cause now), I...I...
Okay, I can't really do anything about it, but I can hate
The Escapist. Forever. For making such a huge error in the first place.
