So, I made myself an elfink mage and went to the Dalish first in the series of quests because I wanted her to get the ball rolling on being an Arcane Warrior. Now that I AM an AW, what suit of armor should I be going for? The massive plate of Juggernaut or something lighter? I do appreciate helpful comments.

If you absolutely must have a matching set, I'd suggest one of the Superior suits from Wade, or if you have the DLC, the Warden Commander outfit since the boots have a +50 fatigue bonus plus a few other nice, small stats. Neither have a helm so you can pick and choose what you want.

If you don't mind mismatched armour, I like using Warden Commander Boots + Varathorn's Armour + a pair of the mage gloves (Elementalist's Grasp is nice). The armour isn't too heavy and gives +25 fatigue, and paired with the boots gives you a total of +75 fatigue. If you don't have the DLC or don't want to use those boots, Wade's superior boots usually have combat stamina regeneration, which can help offset the fatigue loss.

evon bp + wade superior -->HEAVY<-- gloves and boots is imo the best one by a good margin with its 3% fatigue, and very good stats

wade superior light is also an interesting armor but more suited for caster oriented aw

Wade's Superior Dragonskin is the best for pure casters and Wade's Superior Dragonscale + Evan the Great's Mail is the best for hybrid characters. Any other armor will seriously compromise the casting abilities of an Arcane Warrior because of the fatigue penalty.

If you want to go all out AW I suggest you find yourself some nice massive plate armor. The sentinel armor is awesome for this, as is the Effort armor from Origins.

Wade's Superior Dragonskin Armor (the massive armor set): This is the one I use, and it is by far my favorite one.

So, it isn't worth it to go for a matched set such as Juggernaut? I AM going to take this character into Awakening so I can't have one of the downloaded sets such as Blood Dragon.
Why do you say Wade's Massive Plate Armor set over something like Juggernaut, please? I really want to learn what is going on here.

The problem with Juggernaut is that it provides elemental resistances which are redundant because of shimmering sheid.

Redundunt fire resistance.

ya but 1. the set make talents/spells cost less to activate 2. doesn't use a helm (Corruption?) 3. its still dragonbone plate
this assuming you are at least part caster though, my arcane warrior is is ALL warrior and uses a constantly low mana bar with about six aura effects at once, with whom i use Juggernaugt Plate.

Spirit resist is redundant as well and Effort provides decreased cost for spells as well.

This is my AW: Arcane Wazzah

Effort is debateable bu i think the best armour set for an AW. Howevet my sword/sheild are pretty damn solid for an AW and my belt is the best you can get.

I don't think it's necessarily clearcut (leaving aside roleplaying reasons, I don't like using bits and pieces from various sets).

I thought many liked Cailan's armor (both in DAO, and Awakening - RTO items are supposed to import). I can understand why, I think mana regeneration (which stamina regeneration items effectively do) is a lot more important than e.g. an extra +25 or +50 mana particularly in lengthy fights, when using abilities that drain mana like shimmering shield (or whatever it's called), this offsets that. Especially with a lot of active abilities (effectively lowering maximum mana) trying to coordinate lyrium potion use can be annoying.

Also other bonuses matter, are e.g. Cailan's boots giving +20% evasion together with Evon's 10% plus (etc.) and a pair of +20% cold gauntlets with Winter's Breath (or Wintersbreath) "better" than having a higher maximum mana?

I wanted to get the whole Ancient Elven Armor set, but I can't because of the bug with the boots in that cupboard. Does anyone know a fix for this -- is there a way to get them through the Toolset, please? For some reason, my Console is unable to work since I "upgraded" (a MOST debatable term that . . . upgraded) to Windows 7. Anyhow, I wanted to give it a shot -- it's also hella sexah looking armor, and my Elfink Wench AW is HELLAH hot, if I do say so myself, lol.

I would use Cailin's armor, but it is a no-go in Awakening thanks to the "NO DLC carry-over from DAO to DAA" thing. So, until I can get that Ancient Elven Set, I will probably use Wade's Superior Dragonskin Armor (Super heavy version). Thank you. Keep the comments coming, please? I really am learning a LOT about the game and such.

Muchos Gracias Nachos (Many thanks with nachos on top).

Cailan's armor does transfer over.

Edit: Might as well throw in my opinion. For may main Warden, who is an AW, I just have him wear Reaper's Vestments and a 2hr sword. If I wish to tank, I'll just put on rock armor and arcane shield. In Awakening I was wearing Reaper's Vestments, Oven Mittens, Vigilance 2hr, Spellfury as secondary weapon, and Winter Boots, along with other stuff that slips my mind atm.

Dhampir, I REALLY like how your AW sounds. Just finished Awakening w/ my fave entropic blood mage and now I wanna take a stab at the AW and make one fresh from scratch in Origins. Curious, all the posters on these forums say to stay away from the 2h sword for the AW. How did you make it work in Origins? I've been intrigued by the idea ever since I first laid eyes on the one you fight in the "on the side" proving...

Revya,

I appreciate those links, but they didn't work -- from what I could gather from the comments made on that page, the mod won't work if you have done anything with the Toolset. If I am wrong, let me know, please? I am pretty sure I installed the mod correctly and in the correct folder. Thank you.

You should use DO Modemanager

It will help you with installing the modes

I'd like to suggest the Ancient Elven Armor set. I just did a playthrough with a Mage/Arcane Warrior and this set, coupled with some great rings and amulets made me almost completely invincible to the Arch Demon's Blue-breath. The helm and breastplate (all I had acquired) have a very high spirit resistance factor, and the armor is light enough that you don't get tired. In the final battle, it was superior in protection to any other armor I've worn. The only time I took health damage was when the darkspawn came through the doors in support of the big guy. I loved it! Next time, I plan to find the entire set.

You don't need the entire set to get great protection.  The Helm and the Breastplate did wonders for me.

To get the Elven boots in Lothering Chantry cabinet, install Qwinn's Unofficial Fixpack.  He's just released his fixpack, which fixes over 50 bugs in the game including the Stealing bug in patch 1.03 (yes, you should install this with patch 1.03 in place): http://social.biowar...m/project/2563/

And in answer to your original question, Cailan's armour set.  As a full set, it has a very low encumberance < 9% and it also has physical resistance +15% which is always a mage's weakspot.
