I'll give a bit of history for mine. During my college time I was heavily playing Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (RvS). I played RvS for three years with a single clan for most of that time. Towards the end, as my friends and I were starting moving onto other games, I came across a casual clan that played RvS. This clan was fairly new - within 6 months of starting to play RvS - where as I was near the end of my three years.
As you can imagine they discovered rather quickly the kill ratio was not balanced even with stacked odds against me. So after a few rounds they invited me on to their Teamspeak server to chit chat. After a few hours of chatting and enjoying ourselves, I befriended the group and kept visiting them until I pretty much stop playing RvS. During the first few days I would tell them what I considered RvS basics, tips, tricks, etc, to get them a little more experienced.
After about a week when I had first meet them we were playing a 4v4 team match up when another clan, 8 members, popped in for a unoffical skrimish. Naturally I hoped on the side of my new buddies for our 8 man side. We started a new map and away we go!
Now the new map that we switched too was called Alpine Village, one of my favourites! - love it. After the match starts I decided to take a long way around, on the off chance I might catch someone trying to flank, as the rest of my team blitz straight for the other team. Within 15 seconds of the match starting, my entire team, all 7 players, were dead without dropping a single guy on the opposite team. This left me against 8 other players, all likely on Teamspeak or Vent as well.
Now here's where my moment comes in. All I hear on my teamspeak is some of the guys, who did not know me as well as some of the others, saying, "Oh man you're so screwed." And the rest were saying, "Dude! Just watch and see!" All I ended up telling them, "All I ask is for people to keep as quiet as possible, and enjoy the show." Over the next 4 minutes the group watched in utter amazement as I destroyed the 8 man team alone, using a combination of sound (I'm a big advocate of headphones to give some advantage playing FPS games), and map tactics. I would hear the gasps and outbursts of awe as they realized I was winning. What was even better - the other team was spamming via game chat that I had to be cheating, only to be rebuked by my dead team members swearing up and down the way I was playing could not involve any cheats. There was another two matches with the skrimish clan, with similiar results, and then a hasty exit. My team was ecstatic about what they saw for the rest of the day.
Sadly after a month or so I quit playing RvS all together but kept in contact with one of the guys via email for about a year before I lost his email. One of my last emails with the guy had him and his buddies still talking about that day. I had become their own form of legend that they talked amoungst themselves about once in a while. They would never forget the guy who took and 8 other players, and survive.
To me it wasn't a big deal at the time. After 3 years of playing RvS, I've done clean sweeps like that before. But since that email that day has become the fondest, and probably proudest, moment of my gaming career. I probably will never top that feeling or the way I had impacted a small group of gamers in such a strong way.
That's my tale!
