They should just limit the referal links to 500 points everyday and purge the extra points above 500. People who started Tuesday and gotten their 500 points each day should have 2000 points from referals tonight. Who's with me?

Already proposed.  That would leave just three kinds of people in the auction

#1 People who didn't get the 500 each day

#2 People who did get the 500 each day and didn't win any twitter tokens

#3 People who did get the 500 each day and won twitter tokens

The auction prizes would basically just go to people who won multiple twitter challenges

the only problem is, then everyone will have the same amount of tokens and all the auctions will be ties. Well that's not entirely true. The people who won the twitter contests will have more, they'll all be tied.

Basically, only the people who've won multiple twitter contests would get any prizes.

Would that be so horrible, as it is only the popular people have any chance of winning if it actually comes down to token counts. The only way for people with less tokens to win will be to, literally, catch the popular kids napping.  Bad enough being the unpopular geek in high school now I'm one of the unpopular unpopular people, if I went any lower I wouldn't even be on a rung.  Only reason I got the token I got was because I was johnny on the spot setting up a link exchange list and even there ya know what I just actually helped everyone else out as much as me!  But I'm altrustic like that.

EDIT: Fair note I did win three twitter contests but I'm still leagues behind the high token counts.

Well it would be an alright idea, if this still wasn't the only real way anyone would be able to get a different amount of tokens than everyone else.

Remember, there are really only two deciding factors (token gaining factors) in this whole competition: The twitter challenges and referrals. You take away the referrals, then it just goes down to who wins the twitter challenges, and since we will not have any of those for the next 3 days, that would be a really bad way to get competition going for this whole thing.

If something replaced referral links as the 'deciding token factor (1of 2)" then I would be all for it. Otherwise, there would be no other way for people to bid different amounts and have that make a difference.

You know, if this was an in-person rather than digital system, I'd be all for this plan - just for the humor.

Bioware Auctioneer: "And here we have lot #72, a lovely Garrus lithograph and some N7 stickers."
Entire Audience: "10550!"
Bioware Auctioneer: *pointing to random person in front row* "I've got 10550! I've got 10550! Do I hear 10560!?"
*crickets*

I'd rather they just had random draws for people who have at least one bioware game registered to the account. Keep the two win limit and allow people to chose which prizes they want to go for.

I thought about that, and that does suck. I didn't really like the referral idea in the first place, because it makes the competition largely unbalanced with more popular people online having large advantages over those who aren't popular. I like the raffle idea, but too late now, eh? I wish they'd maybe had like little quizzes about DAO and ME or something worth points rather than the referral, but again too late now.

More quizzes or anything like that would only be slightly better, as eventually people would give out the answers or something and it would even the playing field a lot more anyways.

What would work somewhat well is achievements people have in DAO and ME2, even ME1. That way anyone who doesn't have all achievements is encouraged to play to get them. That would only go so far in giving a larger variety in token totals, but it would be a start.

Yeah, but like you said the achievement thing would barely differ in totals. As far as people giving away the answers, I guess that could happen. But from what I've seen people haven't given out the answers for the questionnaires, so IDK. The achievement idea is definitely better than this referral thing, though.

I don't think that would have been a good idea for ~this~ contest (due to its mere 2 week duration), but I think it'd be a GREAT idea for a second promotion during the summer.

I could see one of two things being interesting:
Allowing people to download content that used to be preorder exclusives (IE: The Wicked Band for Dragon Age, or Terminous Armor for ME2) if they earn a certain number of achievements.

Giving people a small number of Bioware Points for achievements. Maybe $4 woth for getting every achievement in each game.
Manage to get all the achievments for ME2, DAO, and DAA? Congrats! You just got $12 worth of Bioware points, go download Kasumi and Return to Ostagar or something :)

The lottery idea is how it should have been done. With the current system most people dont have a snowballs chance in hell for reasons already mentioned and in the future I hope they dont use it again. Fate, luck or whatever you want to call it should be the deciding factor, not these "popularity" contests.

Amen to that. IDK if it's a lottery or what, but something more fair and balanced than this.

Honestly, the token system would have worked fine if it wasn't for the unfair methods at which you are able to gain tokens. With Twitter and referrals only, it leaves both too much and too little room for variation, which counts when you have such a variety of prizes - and reputation- at stake.

I've really been trying to stay out of most of these discussions, but I just wanted to point out that the way the auctions are going to run (at least the way it is stated so far) is that an auction will open, the bids must be increments of 10, and at the end of the 15 minutes the highest bidder wins on to the next auction.

Perhaps it is a daft way to look at it, but I figured that meant that no one would be able to come out and say "I bid 1,800,770 tokens" at the beginning, that each bid would have to be done in steps of 10 tokens each until time ran out, giving anyone who is on during that time block a fighting chance.

*shrugs* I could totally be wrong, but that was the way I interpreted it. Plus, with the two item winning limit, it would encourage people not to just bid on everything, but only on what they really wanted.

Completely unrelated, but I felt the need to answer your signature.

Yes.  Yes I have.
