How long can a cutscene be? Could you essentially create a little movie, with acting and even some fighting?

I am not aware of any limitations on the length of a cutscene. Adaram points at Beerfish ----> he would know way better than me, though :)

From what we've seen, it looks pretty extensive... more than anything NWN 1 or 2 could offer.

I'm excited about it, personally.

I really can't wait to get my hands of this game. I guess Bordwerlands is going to have to handle me over for now.

I can't wait to see what people will do with cutscenes. From what I read from the wiki the cutscenes are going to be incredible. I'm looking forward to it. For now I've only played with mods on oblivion and fallout 3 so those games don't have cutscenes just text and voices. Loved cinematics on mass effect and dragon age so I'm looking forward to what people can create.

IIRC the max length of a cutscene is 30 minutes. This is just because of a technical limitation on how the time is tracked. So, unless you want to make a feature length movie there basically is no limit.

Also, if you DID want to make something over 30 minutes, my guess is that you'd be rendering it out. In which case you could just glue some renders together.

It would be better to link multiple scenes together with a script or something. 1 mistake that breaks a 30m cutscene file would be a pain.

30 minutes is a pretty nice length though.. I mean who wants to sit through 30 minutes of a cut scene? hahahaha. Unless of course a movie is made out of it,, in that case can do like Jon said and just paste them together and create a movie out of it... be easier as would be a pain in the butt to get an error or a crash 25 minutes in only to have to start over again!
