Does anybody else think that the Human Noble origin character could have fought off the howe attack?
Here's what I'm saying if could have saved all of the highever guards, that servant that you can persuade to fight (who is actually a boss), and the servants hiding in the castle you would have a pretty good chance at defeating howe's men. plus you have duncan on your side and all you would have to do is funnel howe's men into a narrow passageway.
I'm just saying...it could work...300 did itImage IPB

"Aware that his force was being outflanked, Leonidas dismissed the bulk
of the Greek army (7,000 troops), and remained to guard the rear with 300 Spartans,
700 Thespians, 400 Thebans and perhaps a few hundred others, the vast majority of whom were killed."

Seeing as the game can't handle more then 10 enemies at a time it would've been easy :P

I'm just saying, there's really no battles with more then 10 enemies at once.

The problem is that Howe's entire army was there and launched a surprise attack. Highever's army was already on the march to Ostagar. The castle was surrounded. Howe's men controlled all the gates. Howe had the numbers on his side. The servants were ill equipped to fight.

Even Duncan knew the situation was hopeless. There was only one escape route. The secret exit under the larder. If the human noble did not escape the Cousland line was going to come to an end.

Yeah, but you have Plot Shield.  It would have been easy.  Too easy.  o.O

I still would of at least liked to of tried. That 1 always got to me, especially when it comes to talking to the Gaurdian in the Sacred Ashes quest and you have the option to say I should of defended them (parents) to the death. I didn't even get a chance, thanks Duncan lol.

Not a chance that I would take, especially when the battle seems all but lost.

No, better to grit your teeth stay alive and settle things later if you can.

The 300 (and their allies) held out for 3 days.

They were a group of elite soldiers. Some of the finest in the world at the time.

What hope would You, some guards, and a few servants have against an entire army?

Duncan vs Howe. I'd pay to see that fight.

Duncan has the power o' the beard...Howe wouldn't stand a chance.  Kind of like he didn't have a chance against my Cousland girl either Image IPB

He IS voiced by Tim Curry, though. That's got to count for something.

Hell yeah!

Of course the HN could have done that. Hell, if the HN was a spartan then the film "300" would have been called "1" instead.

It counted for making me want him dead the second he spoke even before I knw he was going to betray my family...lol. That man's voice always has the effect on me, ever since I watched Congo.

Well, given that most of Highever's forces have left with Fergus - no.

Seriously speaking, an attempt at defending the gates would only be possible in one way. Stand over at the smallest door and wait for Howe's men to come, one after the other. If you could convince Ser Gilmore to join you, with your mom's bow and arrows, dog's barks and howls, Duncan's beard and the prowess of the PC, I think it could actually be possible. Or make a trap, like make them come at the hall and make the roof collapse. That would take out at least 200 men and the way would be blocked. Then, after an Assassin's creed climb up, and a MacGyver's brain, you could make a dozen of battleaxe pendulums (pendulumses... pendula, penduli?) and make them swing and kill guards slowly but increasingly. The last 100 men would probably retreat as you come out of the main gates with a badass look.

On a more funny note : Duncan's beard was there. With a longsword shot at Duncan you kill him, take the beard and say "I am in charge now. If anyone wishes to leave, know that the beard WILL kill them. NOW, let's get to work!" quickly followed by the above collapse and pendulum tactics....

I was wondering the same thing too. Since the theme of most missions are generally cases where you are outnumbered anyway. (Deep Trenches for example).

Also another thing that annoyed me was the fact that a HN didn't have the option of looking for Fergus. Oh sure we have the time to kill a dragon, search for a missing sword, find a mage elf, kill an ex-girlfriend, reunite a drunken scoundrel with an ex-girlfriend, scour a thaig to solve a golems identity crises, buuuuuut if you want to look for your only living relative, sorry lol no time, we have a Blight to deal with. Suck it up Warden.

I wish there was an option where you could tell Morrigan "You won't help me find my brother, why in Andrastes elbows should I give a damn about your crazy dragon mom? Kill her yourself, beyotch."

Inorite? She had some gall to ask you for a personal favor when she outright turned you down when asking to look for your brother. Ah well. I just contented myself to thinking HNs just kept their personal affairs to themselves after that point while secretly watching out for clues as to Fergus' whereabouts.

That would have been so cool. For example y'know where the bartenders tend to have rumors to tell you, they could have been scripted so you could have snippets of Fergus's possible whereabouts, like rumors about survivors or something.

In general I thought that the HN didn't have enough options to demonstrate pissed-offness at the whole situation (disclaimer, DA:O is still AMAZING in my eyes), like your parents were just killed, you are thrown into this whole Warden business without so much as a handbook and all Alistair can do is whine about Duncan (who he knew for 6 months, HELLO PERSPECTIVE MUCH, MY PARENTS WERE JUST BUTCHERED, QUIT CRYING) and of course Morrigan is very very emotionally "supportive". There is no pissed off "outlet"/dialogue option. A warden should have the right to be cranky if he/she so wishes to.

The elf origin has specific rude conversation options, like "STFU human lord." HN should have the choice of "I am still mourning, can you please shut up about Duncan/Flemeth/Marjolaine/Felsi for one nanosecond? ThxBAI."

it didnt really suprise me we couldnt search for fergus.. you are looking at hundred if not thousands of refugees, etc impossible to find a single person in all that.

As impossible as it was to find one missing sword in a land going through civil war/one Paragon lost in darkspawn infested caves?

I get your point, I'm just saying that the quests seemed crafted to seem like the Warden defied all odds. Finding Fergus, or news about survivors from the war seems like a menial task in comparison to sweeping caves for a Paragon gone mad.
