Since I mostly play paragon not very many choices I had were hard to make. Although I will admit, Garrus's loyalty mission had me scratching my head over what I should do.

Oh, that Baterian one killed me. I took about 10 minutes to decide! (seriosuly, I made a sandwich and thought about it).

The 'Kill Sidonus' one always got to me. I guess because either way, Garrus isn't happy. The first time it was challanging, but even on replays I have a tough time deciding. Eventually I came around to a compromise: let Sidonus say his piece, but let Garrus take the shot anyway. lol

Uploading the data from Agent Rawlings was also a tough one, but again, very minor.

When I first played ME2 I thought that if I didn't let garrus take the shot he wouldn't be loyal.  Then I found out he would be loyal and then it was a matter of which would leave garrus the most satisfied were he a real person.

From my dialog with him I gathered that he still cared about Sidonis. He still remembered the good things about him, and because of that I couldn't let him shoot him.  The letting Sidonis say his piece was my least favorite option as you let Garrus hear that Sidonis wasn't all bad like he thought and you still let him shoot him.  If Garrus were a real person then he would have to deal with knowing that he shot a man for being a coward.  That would suck. That's like shooting him in cold blood.

And to the OP, the batarian one was only hard because on 360 they switch up the selection button.  What should be "choose your intended target then press A" is actually "Press A to Destroy Residential district, Press B to destroy military base." They trick you on it and if you don't pay attention to which screen goes fuzzy you won't catch it.

My most difficult decision in ME2 was probably which squadmate to side with in the Miranda/Jack confrontation.  Not because I had to sit and think about it but because I changed my mind about it.  Initially I broke one of my own rules; I judged jack by her reputation.  Then as I got to know her I found that she wasn't that bad, certainly not as bad as Miranda who constantly reminds you about how perfect she is.  You have to dig through her BS to get to her humanity, which is worse for me than Jack.  Jack isn't pompous or egotistical, the only bad thing about her is she has issues with trust.  You don't need to get past trust issues to be around someone.  Pompous and egotistical you do.

That's just my opinion though, no need to go spreading it around.

The Virmire decision gave me the most pause but the Balak decision for me was the most morally gray. The Virmire decision is not one of morals for me, it's choosing between two evils or two goods.

I actually never punch her.  If you punch her she wins.  She just successfully smeared you.  Hitting a woman on galactic television is bad.  It is much better to use the Charm/Intimidate options because you beat her at her own game.

Zaeed's loyalty mission, and killing or saving the council. I went with the renegade option on both.

Definitely BDtS. I don't feel good about either choice, and I have done both.

It's a good DLC that makes me make harder choices that the game it was made for :)

In ME1, nothing.

In ME2, what to do about Tali's trial. I'm still not entirely sure which outcome is best for the Quarian people. Hiding the data makes me feel like a selfish ass. Revealing it also makes me feel like an ass because of what Tali says afterward during the mission (though her hissy fit on the ship makes me hate her rather than feel sorry for her).I'm still not quite sure what I'm going to do there when I come to it in a later playthrough.

I'm pretty sure the research did not yield anything. At most it would lead to more testing on geth which is a stupid idea. Everyone on the Alarei paid with their lives, there is no point to giving the data. And if you want to metagame, giving the data splits up the fleet anyway, which is also bad.

I think the hardest ones are whether or not to save the Council in Mass Effect 1 and whether to keep the base in Mass Effect 2. At that point, since I've maxed out my paragon or renegade bar, its more a matter of consequences for the next game.

Oh, oh I got one ...

Whether or not to convince Saren to shoot himself in the head.

On the one hand, I could ... and getting control of the citadel back with haste has some merit.

On the other hand, I don't get to shoot him myself.

Choosing whether or not to save the Council the very first time was a tough decision. In the end, I went with my gut instinct and chose to let the Council die so I could concentrate on Sovereign. Then I reloaded the game to see what would happen if I let the Council live and discovered the battle played out exactly the same. Since then, I've opted to go with my first choice because it went well with the almost obsessive desire for my Shepards to destroy the Reapers. Once ME2 came out so that I could finally see how the decision affected the political layout of the galaxy, I decided I preferred the tense environment that you got if you let the Council die.

Choosing whether or not to let Garrus take the shot against Sidonis was also a tough decision. This time I went against my gut instinct and let Garrus take the shot because I was afraid to lose his loyalty. On the next playthrough, I went the other route and discovered you got Garrus's loyalty no matter what. Since then, I've opted to let Sidonis live. The decision had less to do with whether my Shepard believed Sidonis deserved the reprieve so much as a tremendous desire that Garrus not be the one to take the shot. Hell, I could have whispered to Zaeed "go kill that Sidonis fellow" as I was patting Garrus on the back for not doing it.

But the decision to save the Council or save Sidonis were only tough decisions the first time. For every playthrough, choosing whether to kill Balak or let him go is difficult. It's when I sit back and really think about who my Shepard is. Sometimes, my Shepard is the sort to kill a terrorist. Sometimes, my Shepard would never sacrifice innocent lives if given the choice. Huh... I wonder what Samara would have done in that situation...

These are based on my first run through the game.

-ME1 Was Virmire of course. I was romancing Liara so my choice wasn’t based on a love interest one. I did like both Ashley and Kaidan but had to choose Ashley since she was more valuable as a soldier.

-I honestly didn’t have any real hard decision moments in ME2, not a one. I was playing a non-imported paragon so all the choices were already made for me. I was the good guy so I just did the good guy thing.

I will say that playing a renegade in ME2 and the decision to let the refinery workers die on Zaeed’s loyalty mission still is a bit haunting.
