From here since it is what is needed to start the pages beyond 100 and I'm too lazy to do something by myself.

HOW HWO DO YOU TAKE SUCH GOOD SCREEN SHOTS WHAT THESE ARE AMAZZINGGGGGGG

1. Pause the game a lot. I am not kidding. A LOT. It will take you forever to finish a game this way, but at some point the game will end and all you have left are your screenshots so you'll be thanking yourself for taking the extra effort. If you are in the habit of pausing every few seconds or so, you can catch your character doing something on the spur of a moment like a fantastic shield block or being knocked to the ground.

2. When the game is paused, jump around on your party members. Pan the camera around. See if there are any good pictures from their perspective. Sometimes your character will be in the middle of an AWESOME pose, but none of the other party members are close enough or in the right spot for you to frame it right. You will proceed to curse at the montior and then eventually move on, heh. You want to be in the middle of the fight so there's at least one party member behind you that can take a good picture of your front. This is harder on rogues since they're supposed to be behind mobs -- who's gonna be behind the rogue? You'll have to compromise on where your rogue is at times.

3. Save a lot. Sometimes when I'm not in the mood to take screenshots, but I'm in a good area for screenshots, I will save a file that says something like "SS-save the village." I noticed that the full moon cast a really good light in Redcliffe village when you're battling the onslaught of undead so I saved for a later time since I was focusing on keeping all the NPCs alive first. I have a save right at the spot where Bhelen gets upset that I handed the crown to Harrowmont and starts attacking me. I can't tell you how many times I've reloaded that save trying to get decent screenshots of my DN fighting him head on. There are a lot of deshyrs that get in the way. Sometimes I really have to aggro him hard so I can pull him away and move him closer to the throne where the light is better. You won't always get great screenshots the first time around. Returning to an older save is necessary.

4. Screenshots look better when you're taking them from a dog or a ranger wolf. They're lower to the ground and thus the camera gets lowered. Otherwise on a human, you have a lot of wasted space vertically above the dwarf's head or you are stuck with the camera looking-up-at-the-dwarf perspective if you are trying to fill the whole picture. The angle that works the best is on top of the stairs or a ramp. Park your dwarf at the top and pick any companion of yours to go down the ramp. Pan the camera around and it creates the illusion that your dwarf is on equal footing with the camera. I have to use this trick to overcome the height differences between Alistair and Gilsa. I also used this trick for all three of my dwarven wallpapers. I had them standing on a mound or a small hill while hiding the companion directly behind them on a lower slope.

Example of the ramp in Redcliffe castle, near Connor's room. I am using Wynne as the cameraman. (Was testing out the distance she needed to be at before I got Alistair in position.) Edit: I just realized Wynne is actually too far to be my cameraman. It's actually Morrigan who is standing where the picture frame is. You can see her in the second picture between the DN and Alistair if you look close enough. Morrigan is the cameraman for these shots, my bad.

Couple of shots to see which worked the best. Alistiar is lower on the ramp so that is why they are lining up better.

Otherwise, they just look like this most of the time, which is not necessarily a bad thing -- just not as interesting:
Posted Image

5. Take lots and lots of pictures. It doesn't matter if you have 100 bad photos and 1 good one. Sometimes you only need that one great photo! Delete the rest when you're done looking at them.

6. Adding this before I forget -- remember what I said about pause a lot? This takes work, but park your dwarf at one spot. Park your photographer at the other spot. Once you've decided the angle and distance is good, then get back on your dwarf and pan the camera left or right. Your dwarf will automatically turn her head to the side and look up or down based on where your mouse is pointing at. This is when you pause. And then get back on your cameraman and start unpausing/pausing really fast (as the head is now returning to the default face-forward position) until the dwarf's head or eyes are just where you want it and then take a picture. Rinse/repeat.

All that make sense? While everyone is off playing with BSC (Better Sex Cutscenes) mods, I'm off doing this instead, heh!

Naw, it's just the camera's perspective. The shieldsare the same size. Here's another angle:

It's certainly the only way you're going to get one by the time Trian's old enough to realize you're the favorite. How old do you think that was, anyway?

I wonder how strong a fighter Bhelen intended to be?

I mean, certainly, he can't seriously think he can win that fight?

I don't know...he's a pretty tough fighter, none of the deshyrs on Harrowmont's side were armed, and there weren't enough guards. If it hadn't been for you and your party (but mostly you) showing up he probably would have won. On the other hand, without you he would have had no reason to stage a coup (or what he accused Harrowmont of when you first arrived back in Orzammar).

I'm not positive, but I remember making my whole party stand in one spot without fighting because I wanted Bhelen's men to pick off Harrowmont's deshyrs. My intention was to then use my party to kill off all the hostile deshyrs so that would just leave me and Bhelen squaring off each other (so I could take screenshots). With no help from me or my party, Harrowmont's deshyrs picked off Bhelen's deshyrs and then swarmed Bhelen afterwards. It was irritating, but what can you do?

What difficulty were you playing on? I don't know if allies get stronger with the enemies or not.

What? But...they weren't even armed! Bhelen's allies suck.

I tried it both on easy and nightmare. Nightmare just took longer to produce similar results. I didn't test this extensively, btw. Not a min/maxer or a number cruncher. I just know that I didn't get Bhelen alone! =p

Oooh nice screenies.
I want to do some sort of tribute for the Legion of the Dead (epitom of Dwarven badassery). But I can't find any good footages for that. They appear only for a tiny bit. Does anyone have any ideas of how I should do it and what kind of material I could use?

My ideas for this would be to:

1) Park your party way off to the side and use only your dwarf that is covered head-to-toe in Legion of Dead armor. That way he blends in with Kardol and the rest of them. Just have your dwarf train the mobs back to the Legion and use the footage of them fighting darkspawn as necessary. Keep Wynne nearby if you need a rezzer or something.

2) Summon the dwarves when you're on the roof with the Archdemon. This is the only time I've seen Kardol in person (he may have been way elsewhere in the other parts of Denerim while I was clearing) so it was easier for me to stick nearby and have screenshots of him fighting.

3) The room where you get the key from Bownannar, with all those dead ghosts fighting, I assume those were former Legion of Dead, aye? Could use that footage, too.

4) Throw in Sigrun's conversations if necessary. Maybe put her in your Legion of the Dead armor temporarily before she finds her companion that is dying?

I have no idea how you can record all this if you're on console though.

Wait. Forget #1. You don't start getting Legion armor until after you pass Kardol, aye? Ugh.

That just fails on so many levels. I mean, how in the world are we supposed to believe that Harrowmont's men punched Bhelen's armed men to death? And Bhelen is even wearing armor! He loses a lot of badass points for this.

Let me play devil's advocate here for a minute. I know console players have already bought their games, they have a million playthroughs done already, and aren't really willing to shovel out the cash for a PC game when they've been there, done that. If there is a desire to make videos or take screenshots, then I say now would be the time to go ahead and get a PC version of the game. We don't know what's coming out in February. Do you really want to get that much further in the game and still have no screenshots/videos available or would you rather get it now while it's still early and be prepared for what lies ahead? What if you see Morrigan again? Would you want a screenshot of your PC and her reunitng as your wallaper? Just something to consider.

I didn't have fraps for ME1 and most of ME2 and when I finally got fraps, I regretted not getting it sooner. I can barely remember what happened in ME1 so I am probably going to go back and play ME1 and ME2 back to back sometimes this summer and be ready for ME3. I am envious of those who have videos of their Shepard chatting it up with their romantic interest and they were able to edit it all together with music retelling their epic love story. It's more work this way, but it'll be worth it for me because once the game ends, that's it. Only screenshots are left to tell the story.

Hey, I was looking through the Zevran-Dulin dialogue again (seriously, Zevran, can you wait until he's NOT listening before questioning my decision to support him?) and I realized we don't have the DN-specific lines. Do we have the DN-specific Vartag lines either? I'm actually really curious as to how they react because they're both convinced you're working for the other and Dulin is determined to make you prove yourself to protect Harrowmont from himself. Of course his 'Bhelen would never work with someoe who humiliated him in that manner!' made me laugh. Has he ever MET Bhelen? Of course he would if it would get him the throne. Sneak support is the best kind, after all.

Seriously, this thread is so informative.

(Working on the toolset in the background, I swear!)

And yes, I will share the artwork, I promise. It's not going to be as detailed as the Hespith one (not saying what it is yet) due to lack of time and the simplicity of the subject, but it's still a fun project nonetheless. ;) It will be posted this coming weekend.

Never fails. Every single time I look for Vartag, I go to the royal palace first both in the game and in the toolset. I always forget he's in the assembly. It just doesn't make sense to me. You'd think he'd be the first line of defense in the royal palace while Bhelen's behind closed doors.
