Britain is a different case. The dwarves have Brontos, Nugs, Mushrooms and an abundance of Deep Stalkers and Mushrooms. I believe that only the nobles even eat surface food.

If food from the surface was so abundant as you make it seem, then dwarven ale would be made from grain, not lichens and mosses.

Not necessarily. They could import plenty of other things from the surface. Like cheese. Mead. Which they do, and it's not limited to just the noble caste. You can get surface mead in Tapsters, and Garin keeps going on about his sandwich with cheese on it. The nobles probably have more access to imported things than commoners do, but I'm sure commoners get part of the less expensive imports. Grain might be something that isn't appealing to the dwarves as a whole, and thus, grain is not in great supply for them. Plenty of countries produce foods that never get exported because they are unappealing to other diets.

What I am saying is that the dwarves would not die out if cut off from the surface, but it would create serious hardship and austerity measures.

I know they eat mushrooms, but don't they have to be careful since they are toxic or tainted? I know eating too many will drive you mad.

i think there was a codex about it- King Endrin's favourite meal was roast nug in a mushroom sauce, and the sauce you had to be careful with as they were meade from tainted mushrooms! How very fugu.

So mushrooms are like the dwarven pufferfish. If it's not prepared correctly (and if people are forced to survive off of it in the Deep Roads) then it could kill them or drive them mad but it can be made safe.

And only dwarves are awesome enough to attempt such a thing...any of the lesser races simply could not hack it.

Of course dwarves are awesome. They created a series of tunnels while humans still roamed as Barbarians.

A short video about my Dwarf Noble's Landsmeet.

Wow, Alistair really knows how to work the guilt, doesn't he? That's part of the reason I always marry him off to Anora. Of course, it works better if you talk to them about it beforehand and if Loghain lives it only works if he's hardened but that was I can feel perfectly fine about welcoming Loghain aboard.

He is unhardened in that video :P He never accepts. His speech about marrying the Archdemon cranks me up.

I wish there was an option to tell him.

Alistair: ....none of what I did accounts for nothing?
PC: Oh you mean beside crying like a baby about Duncan, saying you didn't want to be king, and refusing to take any part in leadership?
PC: If that should account to something then that would make Cailan the Maker.

"Murder Knife."

Why not harden him? Shouldn't toughening him up be a more pragmatic approach then coddling him with 'it's okay you're sister's a harpy because we still love you'? Or did he just never like you enough to give you the opportunity?

I thought he sounded unhardened when he sounded so horrified at the prospect (and he does get a cool damning everyone line if he is hardened taht seemed to be missing from this one) but he was only ever unhardened my first playthrough where he ended up happy to let my HNF rule the country while he went off to meet people.

*Ponders*, what did the Dwarves use as a method of transportation between thaigs? Brontos? It seems that the concept of chariots is not alien to them (according to Oghren), so maybe that's what they used.

And it's very curious. The first step in human development is agriculture and being settled. Agriculture is an impossibility undergroud, so what was the first step in Dwarven development? If the human experience is to be applied to the Dwarves, then a hunter / gatherer society (which is all the Dwarves could be without farming) doesn't really evolve much. So how did the Dwarves become developped? Hmmm, interesting. I want to know about Dwarven cuisine *keeps pondering*

Underground is teeming with life. Just not life that surface dwellers would find appealing to eat. But there are plenty of things to cultivate and eat: nugs, fungus, mosses, algaes, lichen, deep stalkers, insects, ect. We see no dwarven "farmers" caste, but I'd imagine that cultivating these things probably falls into the duties of one of the castes, perhaps servant or merchant.

Remeber Jarvia's hideo-out? And one of the tunnels lead to onme that had deep stalkers, nugs, and brontos corraled like pigs or goats. I'd imagine different places have such enclaves.

Possibly, but that would not be considered as agriculture perse. But perhaps it can be equated to sedantary life.
Still, if the human experience is to teach us anything, is that "primitive" forms of providing for food generally do not jump start a civilisation as advanced as the Dwarves.

The origin of human technology is agriculture (better tools, better irrigation systems...etc). Herding animals on the otherhand does not really push one to advance technologically. Furthermore, herding animals implies pasture and ways to feed them, which do not seem to be abundant udnerground.
So what is it that pushed the Dwarves to be so technologically advanced compared to others (humans and elves mostly)?

Of course all this is mostly irrelevent but I am still interested. Were the Dwarves ever nomads? How and when did they settle? Why did they develop technology, keeping in mint that necessity is the mother of all inventions?

I did choose the hardening dialogue. Thing is that I didn't speak with him at camp once I had the approval.

I almost never use Alistair. Mostly because I play melee characters, and I almost always use Sten and having more then two melee people makes for **** battles.

You don't need to do it at camp (my approval is always high enough at that point that I do it two seconds after he says he needs time to think and I'm still outside Goldanna's house). Just harden him on the walk from Eamon's estate to the Landsmeet.

And don't forget the big one: why, why, WHY are dwarves resistant to Lyrium and don't enter the Fade? Apparently the Devs have an answer but won't tell us so it must be important.

I've yet to see a single codex entry in the toolset, but I could be looking in the wrong place. Would love to copy those over as well.

Re: the mushrooms -- the ones you are thinking of are called "deep mushrooms." They grow close to darkspawn bodies, which gives them their unique flavor and intoxicating scent. Eating too many can result in curious afflictions of the mind. (This is all shorthand from the codex entry. I jotted things down on paper as I played the game. This was all pre-toolset and pre-awesomedwarfthread!)

BTW, useless info that doesn't really matter, but fun to share: Apparently during the vanilla dwarf sex scenes, the dwarf model is actually a larger size so the animations would line up better. One modder described the dwarf male as Andre the Giant and taller than the human model when it is used for vanilla sex scene purposes. I had seen another modder basically say the same thing, but now that I'm hearing it repeated, it reminded me to mention it. I rarely watch the vanilla sex scenes with the dwarf because even the one with Alistair seemed off. The dwarf's head seemed larger than Alistair's head. I couldn't understand why until now. I remembered seeing an old video of the dwarf male going to bed with Zevran and he was so massive. It seemed like the Incredible Hulk taking on an elf. Mystery solved.

Yeah charsen goes on about it even for kisses, so...

BUT giving the actual height differences as they are it's possible, just toolset is weird and strange!

I don't mean to keep talking naked dwarves or sex scenes, sorry, but it just seems like there's an explosion of mods lately that also includes dwarves. Plus some of our regulars only play on Xbox so it's still interesting information to have. For example, dwarves have different shape heads so a hairstyle on a human would not easily fit the dwarf head mold. The heads have different "anchor points" so the modder would need to reshape the hair to fit properly for a dwarf. That's why some of the hairstyles don't seem to sit right, etc. Elves and humans are similiar and most mods just stop there without continuing on  to the dwarves. I'm guessing it's a combination of extra work for a much smaller audience or they just don't like dwarves. (WE WILL PREVAIL AND SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF THE AWESOMENESS OF DWARVES. TIMES WILL CHANGE!!)

OK, here's the latest thing I've noticed. Here's the default body shape for the dwarf female. Natural bodies allows the model to be displayed as nude.

Source: Natural Bodies
Also available with: Natural Bodies all in one

A new dwarf body shape was added recently at Realistic Look. This only affects the naked model because there are two model types in the game -- the natural body and the armored body. Both have to be customized apart from each other. This shape slims down the dwarf body and shortens the dwarf female arms. (You can also choose from three different cup sizes, btw. I picked the largest one so I could compare it to the voluptous shape of the default model.)

Here is the difference between the naked model and the armored model. The shorter arm shows up when the gloves are removed. If a player really wants shorter dwarf arms, I guess they'll just have to play the game without wearing gloves. I tested it in combat and there's a tiny bit of clipping, but the hands hold the weapons just fine so it shouldn't really break immersion. (If you just want the shorter arms and keep the original dwarf body, you only need to replace the arm files. Works both ways)

Seriously, by all the mods related to sex on Dragon Age, Bioware might as well change the name to Dragon Age: Pornography.

The fanfictions, and Zevran/Alistair threads also prove that true. What has this game became? The favorite masturbating tool for someone people?

I do, too. The shorter arms also threw me off because I'm so used to the current ones. I honestly don't even notice anything wrong with the default arms, heh.

Still, nice to have options like these available!
