What's wrong with Gorim? My Aeducan had "oughta know" on repeat after she went to Denerim.

Aeducan: IT WAS A SLAP IN THE FACE HOW QUICKLY I WAS REPLACED AND ARE YOU THINKING OF ME WHEN YOU- *sobs into ale bottle*

Leliana: Uh, is this a traditional Dwarven song?

Aeducan: ANDEVERY TIME I SCRATCH MY NAILS DOWN SOMEONE ELSE'S BACK I HOPE YOU FEEL IT

Zevran: Oooh. A little lower.

I imagine that scene in a tent, with the three being naked.

And I treasure it... and add a bisexual pirate.

Bisexual pirates? :D

Zevran: ARRRR! Pirate Zevran reporting for duty! Prepared to be boarded!
Aeducan: As long as you wear this fake beard and call me "my lady." And promise to be my Second.
Zevran: Hmm, it's something I can work with. Second what, exactly? I alway make sure a lady comes first, I might add...

What IS a Second, exactly, anyway? Gorim and Alistair both refer to it as a manservant but Bhelen and the DN both serve as Endrin's at some point and they're royalty. Is it just someone who follows you around everywhere and acts as a buffer between you and the rest of the world?

Second in command, I've always assumed.

That's hardly a 'servant', though. Gorim says 'I guess they figured once a manservant always a manservant' at the DN post-coronation when he's explaining that the Assembly contacted him...somehow and at the DN funeral when Alistair addressed him he said something like 'you were her servant, right'. Dead or not, I really wanted to smack him for that. If we're not admitting the part about being exes, he could at least say friend or use the correct terminology of 'second.' I KNOW he's heard it before. We were in Orzammar FOREVER...

Awws I love Gorim... but how did he get married so fast and have a kid....?! Anymore flirting that can be done besides the few lines in the start of the origin??

Ok......should play a DW Warrior or a DW Rogue.....??

There's always the end of the Origin. After that, though, he's tragically married. Or at least he is until he hears the words 'we cancelled your exile.' Are surface marriages not valid in Orzammar or something? Wouldn't surprised me in the slightest...

And play rogue. Not being able to pick locks or sense traps by yourself...I think that's actually why my one warrior character barely made it out of Lothering.

I looked in the opening dialogue trees for Gorim and found that there are four different flags that the player sets in the beginning, depending on their responses: Gorim_romance, Gorim_reject, Gorim_humbled, and standard. This determines what kind of relationship you have with Gorim while you're walking around the palace.

OPENING SCENE
Gorim: "Greetings, my lady. You are dressed and ready. Excellent." (Approving)
Gorim: "I couldn't find the armor's matching dagger, but I scrounged up a rather fancy longsword." (A little apologetic.)
Gorim: "Do you wish to wear your shield to the noble's feast?" (Deferring to player's preference)

Female PC responses:
1. Yes. Let them see me as a warrior.
Gorim: "As opposed to the Paragon of Beauty?" (Flattering, but sincere.)

2. Better safe than sorry. Shield me.
Gorim: "You sure that's all you want me to do to you?" (teasing)

3. Leave it. I don't want to look fearful.
Gorim: "You couldn't look anything less than beautiful. The armor only accentuates it."  (sincere -- he's in love with the player)
Gorim: "Although the idea of you charging naked into battle holds a certain appeal…" (Teasing, flirting -- he's in love with the player)

4. I wouldn't wear the armor if not for tradition.
Gorim: "Why not?" (Surprised.)
4a. I'd rather appear the statesman.
Gorim: "You mean stateswoman? I know how you'd get my vote..." (teasing, flirting -- he's in love with the player)
4b. It makes the more conservative families grumble.
"Let them grumble. You've earned your right to wear it." (Dismissive in first statement and proud in the second.)
"Although the idea of you charging naked into battle holds a certain appeal…" (Teasing, flirting -- he's in love with the player)
4c. It chafes. I've never liked the feel of it.
Gorim: "Get used to it. You'll be wearing that armor a great deal from now on. (teasing, a little proud)"
Gorim: "Although the idea of you charging naked into battle holds a certain
appeal…" (Teasing, flirting -- he's in love with the player)
4d. Never mind. You wouldn't understand.
Gorim: "Probably not. Who understands women, anyhow? They're completely incomprehensible if you ask me." (Mocking, making a joke, flirting)

In each of these cases, you have four basic responses to Gorim:
- You, my friend, are ridicilous. (no change in flag)
- Close the door and show me what you're thinking/we've got time, etc(Set: Gorim_Romantic)
We've been down this road before, Gorim. Let it go. (Set: Gorim_Rejected)
- You forget your place. (Set: Gorim_Humbled)

(Gorim lays out the agenda for the day, blah blah blah.)

Gorim: "Rumor has it that Harrowmont hopes you'll be swept off your feet if a well-placed young nobleman wins the Provings in your honor." (A little resentful -- he loves the player and hates that she can still be courted by those higher rank than him.)

1. (IF: Gorim_Romantic) Should we tell him I already have all the man I need?
Gorim: "Why not? I'll just wear a sign that says, 'Assassinate me before Lady Aeducan marries beneath her.'" (Joking, sarcastic, bitter he can never be with the player in the open)

2. (IF: Gorim_Rejected) Don't sulk. It's unattractive.
Gorim: "Of course, my lady. What would you have me do instead?" (respectful, subserviant)

3. I could use a little sweeping off my feet.
(IF: Gorim_Romantic) Gorim: "I've got a well-built, magical broom just for you. But that's for later. What shall we do now?" (Joking)
(All others) Gorim: "Then shall we go watch nobles flail at each other?"

4. Perhaps I'll go win the Proving, myself.
Gorim: "Win the Proving in your own honor? That would be most interesting. Shall we, then?" (Enjoys the thought of the player scandalizing everyone by winning his/her own proving)

5. Ha! That's not likely to happen.
(IF: Gorim_Romantic) Gorim: "My lady doesn't want to marry some trumped-up lord because of his talent with pointy objects? Maybe we should just watch, then." (Teasing, a little relieved player doesn't want to be courted)
(All others) Gorim: "Still, it could be fun to watch. Shall we?" (Speaker is eager to get going)

Oooooh great dialogue. I think there may be parts I missed....

Think I will play rogue....if the PC's not Leliana's the only rogue right? I don't use her that much... I prefer Morrigan for her awesome spell attacks

Oooo archer rogue or dw rogue..... -headdesk-

class choosing should be this painful!

Both Leliana and Zevran are rogues you can use in your party. Zevran's only disadvantage is that he does not come with any points in lockpicking so you'd have to get him up to speed. Not a dealbreaker, but it can be annoying if you're a completionist.

Zevran is a rogue.  He's dex based in his starting stats with mostly melee talents, Leliana is cunning based with more archery and lockpick.  Either can easily be re-spec'ed to the other specialties, however.  No reason you can't take a mage and a couple rogues.  I generally run a 2-rogue party.  In Awakening, sometimes a 3-rogue party.

And you don't get Zevran until you complete at least one of the major areas, which means you miss a lot of loot and locked doors. My DN has to be a rogue as she always insists on doing Orzammar first - continuity issues be damned - and Leliana lost Orzammar privileges after you suggested she could get a job there getting things off high shelves for the King. I know she was joking but it was still very offensive.

So you can set Gorim at friend, boyfriend, or ex?

Does he actually have any dialogue there? And could you have him show up at Ostagar?

Not other than his usual battle lines and banters, no.  The earliest you can get him is at Lothering.  When you travel from Flemeth's hut, the Denerim cutscene triggers.  You can then run through Lothering and travel again (like to Flemeth's hut) to trigger the assassin ambush.

Yeah, friend, boyfriend, ex, or "in his place." I'm still looking around -- the dialogue trees are dependant on who began the conversation so I have to jump around. It's not like there's a Gorim category where it lists all of his conversations in the game. Sometimes I have to look under a zone category, click on a name (like a merchant in commons), and some of Gorim's responses can be buried in that tree. If that makes sense.

So far, the only "bonus" dialogue I'm seeing is that when you click on Gorim while out and about in the merchant area, you can ask him why he's being so formal if he's set to romantic. Everything else in that tree is standard, regardless of his status. Same thing for meeting you in prison. Only players in a romantic relationship get an extra conversation with him. Otherwise it doesn't matter if he's friend/humbled/ex because it's all the same. The VO comments for the prison are just "grave," "grim," "trying to be cheerful." When you ask him to hold you one last time, he's hesitant and afraid. He is sincere, emotional, and "full of emotion" during his "my dearest one" and "I will always love you, my lady" lines.

There should be a Gorim section. He's just too awesome NOT to have one.

VO notes about Gorim when running into the noble-hunters:

-- "Speaker is explaining that noble-hunters try to get pregnant by nobles. He should sound a little hesitant. We're not quite sure how he feels about noble-hunters."
-- "He should not be scornful, but try to present this in a positive light."
-- "Speaker is trying to present this in a positive light, but we don't know if he really believes this himself. He is trying to remain neutral."

When the noble-hunters first notice him, hoping he's an eligible noble, his VO note merely says he's embarrassed (while he's politely letting them know he's warrior caste).

When you make the scholar pay you for siding with him and you click on Gorim afterwards, he'll ask why you took the money since you didn't need it. Regardless of whatever response you pick, his VO notes indicate that he disapproves and won't risk an argument. So that's why he drops it and asks what you need.

Notes on Gorim and Dace in the throne room. They really don't like each other. =p

Dace: "Many thanks for your willingness to hear me out, my lady. I wish to speak to you of a matter most urgent."

DN: "Gorim, how much time do I have?"

Gorim: "It looks as if the heads of House Bemot and Meino are keeping your father busy." (VO: Stating information.)

Gorim: "Which leaves you plenty of time for our dear old friend, Lord Dace." (VO: A little sarcastic on "dear old friend." Gorim doesn't like Dace.)

Dace: "You're a credit to your caste, Ser Gorim. I've always said so. If I had a daughter, I'd give her to you and make you the noble you deserve to be." (VO: Sounds polite and nice on the surface, but if you're observant you can tell he's being very sarcastic.)

Gorim: "You honor me, my lord." (VO: Veiled sarcasm.)

So what happens when you decide to kill Trian and actually run into him alive? I keep trying to do it but...well...Bhelen's just so obviously evil that I haven't succeeded yet.

all you have to do is show enthusiasm for Bhelens plan, and then Trian will be alive; if you don't show enthusiasm, you stumble across his dead body in that same spot

and heres trian being murdered

I always kill Trian, because when you run into him at the Gauntlet, I think the dialogue sounds better if you actually kill him. I didn't get the evil vibe off of Bhelen until he talked to my character about Trian planning to kill her. Then I started suspecting him.

I prefer to hear him out, but ultimately dismiss it. If you follow a certain dialog with him, he says something like:
"Just be careful, I wouldnt want to lose the brother I actually like"

It always makes the betrayal and his later callousness all the more upsetting for my characther,
