Damn, this Brosca is hawt. I may use him as my male dwarf commoner. This is ... *wiggle eyebrows.* Has the same vibe as Kardol.

Very nice indeed.  I would prefer some hair, but he's definitely hot.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that qualifies as 'idyllic childhood'...unless his life was amazing until then?

He had a nice life with his parents, traveling around the country. Meeting new people, understanding how his father worked the trade.

Until it all ended that bloody day.

Well, I suppose that's better than most of the other Orlesians got...I think Herr wins the prize for having the most horrific backstory.

You are telling me that the Dwarven Supremacy thread is not at the top of the list?!?! Shame on you! Shame on you all!

Sleep is for the weak. Insomnia is the way to go.

Due to the huge time difference between Europe and the US, though, I don't need to be an insomniac to still be up when you guys can't sleep.

What is this . . . "sleep" thing?

Is it what happens when I suddenly "punch out" at 3 in the morning?

I've had an interesting discovery of sorts. Dwarves apparently do not use windows.

Interesting, is it not?

They use Linux.

Why would they use windows? The main reason for them is to let in light, and they live in caves that are (supposedly) dark. That would also mean that they use something to light the inside, what would that be?

looking at that picture of dust town, I've often wondered how many casteless there are in Orzammar. Anyone got a good guess?

I was thinking more about letting air in, to breath.

@ Soignee, I am not sure about the number. But they are numerous enough to bolster the Dwarven army substantially, if Bhelen is put on the throne.

One out of 6 dwarves? Any more and the system ought to collapse.

With Dwarven politics being how it is, why would you want windows? Someone could spy on you while you do your dirty deals (overhearing or watching), or an assassin could get in that way, rather than being faced with only the front door. Not only assassins, but spies sneaking in to steal documents. Yep, sounds like a security risk, to me. :)

The air outside of the house is as bad as inside. Orzammar is built on top of a lake of magma, the air is bad. In pre-Branka days there would also be considerable amounts of smoke from furnaces.

And caves don't have that good ventilation to begin with.

In the royal palace, there are block-designs in front of the lava, which gives the impression of window panes. If that is the right word

I've always found that to be really pretty.

There are vents to allow fresh air into the tunnels. There is a mention of it in the Stolen Throne I think.

As for building themselves. well small holes would work. The temperature in the deep stays the same all year round, so no need to block them so you can preserve the temperature in the house.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that the deep roads have some sorta man-made ventilation system, so that there is always sufficient oxygen in any part of the roada

Edit: yeah, perhaps it was one of the books

and the casteless get the lucky job of vent cleaning too. Kalah (ffffffffffffffffffffff-) speaks about it.

I reckon switching to the surface must take some getting used to after awhile, everything would make you sick.

I wonder how those vents worked in the old empire, when not all cities had a direct route to the surface (Orzammar is really close to the surface, so it could work). They lack plants that make oxygen (lack of sun) and have loads of cave-dwellers non the less.

Edit: *shakes fist at logic-defying vents*
