Bhelen was not so different from his father, in the sense he was willing to do whatever it took to succeed. You must remember that young Endrin also has a castless mother, and from what we can tell in game, she will play a great deal of time raising her child. I am not certain he would against his father's wishes and against the castless, when he had one himself as a mother.

That's one (possibly two) of three and the one Endrin paid the least attention to so we can't be certain that just genetics will be enough to make Endrin qualified to keep up Bhelen's dictatorship and even specialized heir training won't guarentee anything if Trian is any indication.

And I'm not sure where you're getting "Rica gets to spend loads of time with Endrin." I'll concede the "The future king of Orzammar spends his nights in my bed" MAY refer to Endrin but that's only because he's at an age where he isn't sleeping through the night. When he gets older, Rica will likely just get to visit a bit but no one's going to indulge a casteless woman when it comes to the crown prince.

So I assume Vartags house benefits from his dealings with Bhelen, like the Harrowments previously benefited from Endrin?

Or is he juts named an Aeducan, since he's walking around with an Aeducan shield?

Rica said something interesting about him. Apparently Vartag spent a year with the Aeducans so to be fair the crown prince is going to spend a year with the Gavorns? That just seems...off. They're not a very important House and it's the only heir at the moment. Why would Bhelen agree to that?

Bhelen does standard despotic tactics. Destroy the old guard and elevate other, less important families, to replace them.
His elevation of the castless and of Vartag and his suspension of the Assembly is probably an indication of this strategy.

Sending the crown prince to the Vartags would create a bond between the two houses and more incentives for the Vartags to support the Aeducans. Of course, there is a risk that the Vartags might become too powerful, but I suspect Bhelen already thought of that. One way  would be to let minor houses compete for royal favor and be too busy with each other.

I really hate vartag. Why waste Endrins formative years on a bunch of Gavorns? Does Bhelen actually like Vartag?

If Bhelen offered to let me kill Vartag, I would side with him as a DN so much more often...

Rica likes everyone who isn't threatening to send her back to Dust Town. If you'll notice, she even had something nice to say about Beraht. Something about how he was a toad (now that's a tame insult) but she was grateful that he taught her everything she needed for Bhel... BAD MENTAL IMAGES! Posted Image

What is so wrong about thinking about a 50 year old pimp screwing your sister, over and over and over and over.

Edit: And over and over and over.

At least Rica seems to realize it's getting into TMI territory after she starts talking about massages...that are hopefully not like Antivan massages... Posted ImagePosted Image

And when Vartag objects to Rica's presence because "the Assembly is no place for a woman"? Does he somehow NOT notice how many of the deshyrs are women? And that Lady Dace is one of the key supporters Bhelen needs? Why couldn't he just be more accurate and say "oh, it's no place for a casteless/noble hunter"? Honestly...that might be my favorite part of siding with Harrowmont as a DN: the ability to kill Vartag. I hate killing Bhelen, though. He's just such a magnificent bastard that it seems a waste to end his life there...still, has to be done, I suppose.

And that's my newest reason to side with Harrowmont as a DN: so the Gavorns don't get anyway near my nephew. Posted Image

I was actually referring to the bad mental image of the DN's brother and the DC's sister together.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Edit: But thanks for that, really.

Yes, since they both have siblings, their being together is unnatural and wrong!

Beraht having sex with Rica really doesn't come up a lot in fanfiction. I mean, not like... depicting it, but have you mentioned it in your dust town fic? When I played the origin, my DC was really pissed when he heard that.

If you're looking at it from a dwarven perspective, it's creepy because one is a sibling. If you look at it from both it's even creepier as both are one of your character's siblings...

Do they actually confirm that or do you just read between the lines?

I did yeah. Missa went postal and gutted him. Missa is currennntly sulking in Dust Town and I've mentioned it again, more what Rica had to do to survive.

Behrat: And let me tell you boys, it tastes as god as she looks.

This is when they talk about getting rid of Rica, having a last hoorah so to speak.

Beraht says something odious about how Rica is a "peach" that he's already tasted, and he offers her to the thugs and that "she's all yours."

Bhelen's choice for Vartag as his second is very questionable indeed. Almost as idiotic as Loghain choosing Howe.

Eh, Machiavelli did say "Judge a ruler by seeing the people he keeps around him". So I do not understand why Bhelen is tolerating someone like Vartag, where he could get anyone to be his voice. Bhelen is usually very civil and even charming (except when talking to a DN), so why have someone as vulgar as Vartag represent him? Amateur mistake.

And vartag is so much older

I guess I was too busy getting pissed that he was going to go after her to actually listen to what he was saying...It kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it? When you're playing as a girl and Beraht and your mom both mention Rica saved you from being a noble hunter? Is that how she managed to do that?

Yeah, if I had to pick a ruler to support just by who represented them (which all the non-dwarves have to do anyway) I would totally go with Dulin. Even when he's explaining that he doesn't trust you, he's just so nice about...Surely Bhelen could have found someone more willing personable that was willing to do his dirty work? Loghain's choice of Howe was more forgiveable since he really didn't have a lot of allies and Howe suddenly came into prominence with the death of the Couslands. Bhelen could have had his pick of any minor noble. And he's really going to leave his son in the hands of people with such crappy people skills? That won't do Endrin's own any favors.

You think Bhelen would be tired of that sorta atttiude, with having to grow up with Trian. By having Vartag around his son he exposes him to that same sort of haughtiness.
