Duran considered the choice, stroking his long beard gently. On one hand he could deliver a killing blow towards any opposition he might have regarding the throne, but on the other he was too eager on murdering his older brother.
"Milord, might I speak freely?" asked Gorim, interrupting his thoughts, though that made him raise an eyebrow. Gorim and him had been close friends for many years, if he was asking for permision then what he was about to say was inappropriate indeed.
"Of course, my friend." he replied kindly.
"Trian would make a horrible king. Everyone knows it, but are too afraid to speak up." said Gorim sharply. "He doesn't have enough support to take the throne from you, but he does enough to make it bloody, perhaps even strike Civil War. Killing him now would avoid bloodshed later and keep your House strong."
Duran sighed inwardly. Kill Trian now and become undisputed King, or kill him later with a great deal of his supporters later. He turned towards Bhelen, still distruting his youngest brother's motives, but he had little choice.
He suspected Bhelen was doing this for himself. He had no doubt his brother might just be playing him both he and Trian against each other, but it mattered little as he wasn't selfish enough to not kill Trian and void needless deaths.
"So be it." he said with finality "Tommorow Trian will die."
"I am glad you made this choice.I would have hated to lose the only brother I actually like." said Bhelen, his time almost joyful. "I will make sure to delay father and lord Helmi from reaching the rendezvous on time. It will give you the time needed to finish Trian and dispose of the body."
'He really has thought this through.' Duran realized bitterly. Taking his leave he wondered into his private room, where he was meet by two superb females of the dwarven species.
He had almost forgotten about them, but he still smiled as they stripped off his armor and led him into bed.
Gorim was almost laughing to himself as he stood guard at his lord's room, making sure no one disturbed him. He could not contain a chuckle as he heard the loud moans the Mardy's voice :"Ahhh....my looord!"

But . . . he appears to be the only one. Unless I missed it, Brother Burkel doesn't have a brand, and I don't think Oskias had one either, despite that beggar in Dust Town referring to Oskias as a brand.
No other mention is made throughout the game of anyone except actual Orzammar casteless being branded.

Maybe he just had to wear it when he was selling things so they'd know he's a surface merchant?BigBad wrote...
I just noticed something. During the DC origin, you meet a surfaced dwarf merchant who has to wear a casteless face-brand in order to legally walk the commons, as surfacers have no caste.
But . . . he appears to be the only one. Unless I missed it, Brother Burkel doesn't have a brand, and I don't think Oskias had one either, despite that beggar in Dust Town referring to Oskias as a brand.

Is Burkel casteless? I can't imagine he'd be allowed to live in Orzammar and start his own Chantry if he were. If he did go to the Surface perhaps he had dispensation? He could be a former ambassador.

If he was born in Orzammar and left for the surface long enough to convert to the Chantry, that actually makes it more unlikely that he has any kind of status, since Assembly law dictates that going to the surface means turning your back on the Stone, making you an exile, if a voluntary one.

And you can see by those pictures that dwarves pride themselves on the braids in their hair and beards. (I saw an explanation for this in a D&D book somewhere -- it was their way of getting fancy and I think an indication of social status in some cases. I'll have to find that book again.) This is why I was surprised at first to find that the dwarven men had access to braided beards (not available to humans or elves), but the dwarven females got nothing extra -- they merely shared from the same pool of hairstyles that the elves and humans did. I mean, not a big deal -- was just surprised since braids can be an important part of the dwarven culture. Probably just different in the DA universe.

You do know Sarah that you base the fact that castless are only allowed in Orzammar twice a year on what a merchant tells you right? He doesn't even mention restrictions, only that he personally goes only twice a year.

Much of human architecture and smithing was taught by the dwarves, so why wouldn't they take other things from the Dwarva?
I don't recall saying anything about that recently...
Your fanfiction says differently

You know, I probably should have been studying for my finals (the last one is in two hours!) instead of writing fanfics but oh well. At least I finished chapter six?

Sarah, you write as if you are on steroids. Not that it's a bad thing, seeing as it has given me a motivation to finish my chapter.
Glad to be able to help share the motivation.
It all makes sense now! But does this mean the dark ritual was a mistake after all?!?!You know, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Xerxes had darkspawn in his army. And blight-corrupted animals.

And who is Kolgrim's son in the movie? Leonidas himself?BigBad wrote...
Yes, but fortunately the Maker reincarnated Duncan as Kolgrim's son as a backup plan.

Nonsense. The Maker obviously reincarnated Duncan's beard onto Leonidas so he could pwn him some Persians.
