What makes Oghren awesome is that he's one of the only characters in the game who is pure, walking stereotype, without a single non-traditional dwarven feature. He's a gruff, violent, alcoholic dwarf who wields a weapon heavier than he is and enjoys a good brawl. If he had a Scottish accent, he'd be Generic Fantasy Dwarf #7

Oghren's warrior side that started to appear at the end of Origins, should have been explored in Awakening. Instead, his drunkness and ridicule exploded in the expansion and it ruined the character.
I can see why, to a point, but he had next to no development.
I mean, what else is there for him but the Grey Wardens? Felsi was just a pretty face to him I think (the fact he still wears "A Smith's Heart" when he start out is telling) and the fact she got pregnant is "one of those things" in life. He cannot return home, as he's still a subject of redicule there. His Fade sequence is pretty telling in that regard.
The dialogue options of LOLOL YOU'RE SO FUNNY OGHREN are the most most disapproval hits in Awakenings. He wants you to take him seriously as a warden, and see through the funny little dwarf stereotype.
My Brosca hated that Oghren seemed to be running away from his problems (in Awakenings) and called him a rope gatherer- you know, sitting in his hole and all this help thrown his way, and he never gets himself out regardless. My Aeducan was more sympathetic, really. She would be, perhaps; Missa Brosca has no time for those that do not help themselves.

Exactly. I was so disappointed that he went from a man that found his way out of the dark with his big speech about honor this and honor that. This man spent two lousy years trying to find Branka even though she abandoned him. Where was this kind of loyalty for Felsi? It just blows my mind that he joined the GW basically to get away from his wife and kid. His lines are amusing in Awakening, but that whole Felsi mess really put Oghren in a new disappointing low. I did not see a trace of the dwarf that seemed to find a new purpose as the gates of Fort Drakon. For me as a huge dwarf lover, it says a lot when even I'm over Oghren. I'd rather he'd be a cameo from this point on if he has to show up again.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Neither of my dwarves were capable of sympathy. My Aeducan has daddy issues from Endrin feeding her to darkspawn for the throne and then deciding to give it to Harrowmont instead and my Brosca is left wondering what her life would have been like without a deadbeat dad ditching her for the surface and leaving her and Rica alone with their mother.soignee wrote...

They did pester him until he agreed to at least write the kid, though.

*crosses fingers that it isn't a naked scene with Oghren or Harrowmont*
Edit: What am I saying, a naked scene with Oghren would be *Cailan voice* Glorious.

BTW, KoP, I still owe you one more image to even things up. It does not have the Illusive Man, but it does have the epic pillar lean.
