BTW, KoP, I still owe you one more image to even things up. It does not have the Illusive Man, but it does have the epic pillar lean.
Epic indeed!

Sometimes the obvious must be restated. If only not to give false hope to the other threads.

She's still a daddy's girl. She's less emotionally stunted then Missa, more capricious and has better people skills. A more elegant and refined fighter then the thug that is my Brosca, everything is deliberated and decided upon. Never had a head for politics, or the patience, despite an extensive education. The thought of being a commander and reclaiming glory in lost thaigs and finding her people's history and culture was far, far more interesting.
In short: Lara Croft, but a dwarf, and very much a Lady.

Do any of your dwarves actually like the politics, soignee?
Missa actually does, despite protests. She plays Bhelen at his own game, plays at Land's Meet rather admirably then ****s off to Antiva to pull at Crow strings and royalty there to change a few things, disgusted at how the political climate is there for less fortunate.
So yeah, I think that's liking politics, or at least dealing with it.
Sereda just wanted to play commander and run about in lost tombs and thaigs. Also, the dwarven politics in this game is fairly simple thanks to a very, very biased system. It took Bhelen to kickstart it from the cesspit it was, really. Even if he plays despot doing so.
*eta* and I think you're meant to hate it, or at least have a justifiable anger/regret at leaving Orzammar to become a Warden. The Origins give you reasons to escape, to be honest. Dwarf society will implode on itself if it continues the Harrowmont/Endrin way of rule, no matter which way you look at it.
The way I am writing my Aeducan is that she feels guilty and duty bound. She goes back and tries to deal with the mess she left in Harrowmont's hands, cultural guilt far stronger then surface ties. But it's still not enough to go back and play Queen. Not at all.

My DC walks back into Orzammar with her head held high, daring the nobles and guards to comment on her and throwing off the ledge, screaming and kicking, into the lava pit when they do.

I can see why people playing the game would hate it (honestly, the system is far too corrupt to work effectively and has been killing them for centuries) but I just can't see why my DN, raised at the heart of it and living with the strong possibility of being Queen for years, would hate it. Yeah, it's complicated and messy but it's just the way these things are done. Not to mention that she'd never be able to live with herself for killing someone she was convinced would make a decent King in favor of a placeholder if she didn't see to it that he put someone that would actually get things done on the throne after him. Even if she didn't want to - which isnt really an issue - since she made Alistair step up to the plate, marry Anora, and then had Loghain running the Wardens to say 'nah, I don't feel like it' would just be hypocritical.*eta* and I think you're meant to hate it, or at least have a justifiable anger/regret at leaving Orzammar to become a Warden. Of course, chances are Sereda will make far different decisions at the Landsmeet so it wouldn't have to be a double standard.

Soignee...you write your DC as if she is ashamed of being a duster. What's there to be ashamed of? That she killed people/stole etc. to be able to live? That she has a brand?

She is, yeah. At the moment she has too much pride to show her surface friends where she's from in the story, and a few things make her realise she won't always be Dust Town, despite what mammy dearest, nobles, etc say to her there.
You can't just disgard years of being told you're nothing and scum in a space of a year, it doesn't work that way. There's a brand on your face to even tell you that, too.
She gets better though, obviously. LOLCHARACTERDEVELOPMENT.

Same reason Bhelen does. It doesn't have to be entirely selfless.
And it doesn't take a genius to want to make reforms. The Dwarves don't have enough warriors, because only one caste is allowed to bear arms. If you allow the casteless to bear arms, then you increase your army's size, which is what the Dwarves desperaretly need and never did because of their idiotic system.
Orzammar is clearly stagnating and unless your DN is one of those nobles who can't notice this, then I don't see how a DN can't want to reform the system one way or the other.

She does see that things aren't working and are moving too slowly to save them so reforms are needed but in order to make those reforms she, like Bhelen, would need to deal with the politics. Some parts of the political game - a lot, really - need to be changed but that doesn't necessitate hating everything about it.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

I don't think Bhelen hates the political game. He wants more power and less focus on traditions, certainly, but if it weren't for the way Orzammar politics worked, he never would have been able to get the DN thrown out of Orzammar so quickly after Trian's death and would have faced a lot more opposition over his own role in events. The only reason he's able to rise to power as the youngest is because of the political system.

Eh, warrior caste are useless. Now, the Legion of the Dead, those guys are the real badasses, and they've never turned away casteless who want to join. I imagine that if my DC hadn't become a Warden, he'd have probably ended up in the Legion sooner or later.
As much as I love the Legion, it's clearly failing.
They lost their main fortress, their numbers are too few and they failed miserably in Awakening.
I do hope Biowre will show more of the Legion in the future and how badass they can be.
That would be a DLC worth looking at actually.

Taking advantage of a system and being good at it does not necessarily mean liking it.
But no I don't think Bhelen hates the political game, I am sure it gave him a lot of personal satisfaction after what he pulled off. But at the end, he disbanded the assembly and effectively changed the political system to his benefit.
Part of Orzammar's stagnation is, imo and in the opinion of Dain Aeducan, the uselessness of the Assembly. Paragon Aeducan didn't care what they said and did what he must. So getting rid of the Assembly (or ignoring it) would not be considered a bad thing to Dain, who idolised his ancestor.

It's actually remarkable just how self-absorbed the Assembly manages to be...What's really telling is if you ask Rica about Lady Dace and she says that she's very practical because she only gives a **** about House Dace. That's what normal people call the OPPOSITE of practical...
well of course... The Assembly is sort of the Tories in the 80s, imo. Minus the fratricide...
