Hmm . . . I suppose that writing stories is a good way to pass the time.

Much better then how I pass the time anyway.

Well, we get buff right-arms at least.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given how manly Herr is.

Fanfiction is depressing. You join a fandom, find one or two really good authors in the middle of a thousand really bad ones, start reading a story you really like, and then it gets abandoned halfway through and you have to start the search for good stories all over again while wading through list after list of badly written slashfic.

Question. Usually we have to convince Kardol to join us on the surface correct? Why is it then that my DN doesn't even need to persuade him, as Kardol is the one suggesting it? Did that happen with any of you?

EDIT: I assume that's becaue we are a dwarf. Just asking to confirm though.

It's a mixed blessing. I used to like wearing shorts.

Oh, why not? Most of them are just one-shots anyway.

The best way to pass the time to is to blow **** up. Be in video games or real life. Or watch people blow **** up.

I assume that's becaue we are a dwarf. Just asking to confirm though.

It is so. For non dwarves he respects, but not enough that he would risk his unit from the Legion for the surface, which won't give a crap about the dwarves anyway.

For dwarves he will go without issue, because he would be disrespecting a great hero and a future Paragon by refusing.

That's why you should try looking for completed stories or see how often the author updates. I've only abandoned two stories, personally, and they were a 2-chapter one and a 4-chapter one both with less than 10,000 words so that's much less annoying than people who get, say, 30 chapters in and abruptly lose interest. Rec lists can also be useful but YMMV on those stories.

I don't really remember ever having to persuade him but given that the only timse I've gone through a conversation with him recently has been as a dwarf (because Orzammar is really boring if you're not) then that might explain why I never know what people are talking about on that front. I think I vaugely remember on my last non-dwarf playthrough saying something about how Ferelden needed them at their best and he was all 'I don't care about the Surface, I'm concerned with Orzammar' but when I used that line as a dwarf he agrees readily enough.

You can convince Kardol to join you if you're a surfacer, but you have to pass a pretty difficult persuade check. My HN, who had maxed out Coercion, got him to join, but he was reluctant to leave the Deep Roads.

Probably a good thing too.

Something tells me that such a story can only result in nightmares.

Does it make a difference at all if you do convince them or do you just see them in the battle?

I love Aimo's artwork but it's really hard to read due to my deep and abiding hatred for Alistair/Aeducan... Posted Image

I will be curious to see soignee's story when she posts it, though.

No one on this thread is going to like it, will bet cold hard cash on it. Maybe Gilsa, but I'm not sure she reads lolfanfic  or not, possibly Sarah if she can switch off her Aeducan and read someone else's... Herr would just like the booty, maybe. IDK.

It's Aimo's and mine perticular kryptonite when it comes to the 'stair, and that's all I'm going to say. It'll be published tomorrow, maybe a few hours when I get my butt in gear and stop poking deviant art.

So, there is established booty. Dwarf on Alastair it seems.

As long as it doesn't include a long loving tale of Teagan I'm game.

There's no real difference to convincing them or not except that if you do, half the dwarves in the Dwarf Army at the final battle will be Legion, which admittedly looks much cooler.

I will make an effort. As Alistair/Aeducan is my biggest pet peeve in the entire fandom, I'm not sure how successful it will be. I'll try, though!

Kardol: "If I'd heard it second hand I'd have called it a sodding lie. Warden, we've got a king because of you." (disbelief and respect. "I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it myself. You succeeded, you magnificent bastard.")
Kardol: "The rest, impressive, but the Legion is grateful most for restored leadership. It frees us to fight to the darkspawn properly." (respect. "sure, you did other impressive stuff, but this is what matters to us. We can get back to work because of you.")

Responses:
1. Can I count on you to fight the Blight at my side?
2. I'm glad. Ferelden needs you at your best.
3. Orzammar is lucky to have you.

---------------------------

1 and 2 both lead to ...

(IF: DWARF)
Kardol: "You'll have us. It's time the surfacers saw the good the Stone can unleash." (backslapping brotherhood. "I'll fight by your side anyday." Surfacers only see darkspawn. We'll show them the Stone also produces kickass dwarven fighters.)
Kardol: "Back to Orzammar when we win, though. I'll not stay topside to lose my stone sense." (friendly "I'll help you upstairs, but we'll come back here to party. I still don't belong up there.") *END DIALOGUE*

---------------------------------

(IF: NOT DWARF)
Kardol: "Nay, our place is down here. When you break the Blight, and you've got the skill, we'll make sure they have nowhere to retreat." (respectful refusal "hey, I'd love to, but we've got our own battles. We'll make sure your eventual victory is final, though.")
Kardol: "You'll have us indirectly. That's more than any surfacer can say." (respect. "we're on our side, just not on your payroll.")

1. We need you topside. Show the world your skill.
(Condition: very hard persuade)
Kardol: "You alone have the skill to back up your words. Each of the Legion owes our homeland a death, but if our lives are better shed on the surface, so be it!" (backslapping brotherhood. "I'll fight by your side anyday.")
Kardol: "Back to Orzammar when we win, though. I'll not stay topside to lose my stone sense." (friendly "I'll help you upstairs, but we'll come back here to party. I still don't belong up there.") *END DIALOGUE*

(failed persuade)
Kardol: "No offense, warden. You have our respect, but we belong here. Each of the Legion owes our home a death. That is the only way we leave." (respectful refusal "hey, I'd love to, but we've got our own battles. We'll make sure your eventual victory is final, though.")
Kardol: "Best of the vein to you, Grey Warden. Until the Stone's embrace." (best of vein = best of the vein of gold = good luck. Until the Stone's embrace = until everything is over and done = happily ever after) *END DIALOGUE*

2. It will have to do.
Kardol: "Best of the vein to you, Grey Warden. Until the Stone's embrace." (best of vein = best of the vein of gold = good luck. Until the Stone's embrace = until everything is over and done = happily ever after) *END DIALOGUE*

Response #3 (from the top) leads to ...

Kardol: "You'll have us too. Indirectly. Our place is here, but when you break the blight, we'll make sure the darkspawn have a fine welcome home." (respectful refusal "hey, I'd love to, but we've got our own battles.
We'll make sure your eventual victory is final, though.")
Kardol: "It's more guarantee than any surfacer has had." (respect. "we're on our side, just not on your payroll.")

1. We need you topside. Show the world your skill.

There should have been a difference vis a vis who you picked as king though. If Bhelen is king, then the dwarven army you field should be larger (or Harrowmont's army should be lesser), since he is recruiting from the casteless.

That's it. I'm still not sure if there's any difference between Legion and regular dwarves in the Battle of Denerim. Both seem to get the job done.

Does the Legion still show up if you recruit golems instead? Or is it golems and just a smaller number of dwarves? I've never played to the end with that as, well, Branka may very well be the craziest person in-game.

As far as army size goes, I've always had 50 dwarves. Same number with three characters.

ETA: Golems show up as an entirely different Army from dwarves in the Army Picker, I think.
