Fanfiction is depressing. You join a fandom, find one or two really good authors in the middle of a thousand really bad ones, start reading a story you really like, and then it gets abandoned halfway through and you have to start the search for good stories all over again while wading through list after list of badly written slashfic.

And I thought I was the only one....

You and I, sir, are friends.

nup, I can switch off and read it. Their universe, not mine. Sometimes I will think "a duster wouldn't do that," but I think that's more of a lore thing then a Brosca thing.

Just like how I tend to think 'Wow, this DN was really lucky nobody up and killed them earlier for all they seem to think they're a human noble.' Posted Image

well you play a princess, people tend to ignore the nastier side of the Origin and focus on the OH MY GOD I AM A PRINCESS part.

Aeducan as KIng's mistress kind of turns my stomach, not going to lie.

People who play naive dusters make me eyeroll, but it's their sandbox.

if you search "brosca" on Deviantart, Missa comes up twice on the first page both thanks to Aimo and Gilsa.
Luls.

(the DUDE!Brosca at the bottom reminded me of this useless fact, internets.)

muahahaha. My artwork, Gilsas and Aimos all are bumped front page for "brosca" search.

The nastier parts are half the fun, especially trying to decide exactly how badly you want the throne. The Lord Dace sidequest was definitely one of my favorites and a great intro into Assembly politics.

The King's mistress option in general turns my stomach. Alistair just isn't worth that kind of degradation and no amount of 'it's perfectly acceptable for the time period it was based off of' arguments will convince me otherwise.

As to the naive Dusters...maybe it's all the blows to the head in the line of carta work?

Deep mushrooms. They make you soft in the head.

Although that could make for some fun roleplaying.

"So, Ignacio, I checked on those Qunari mercenaries you wanted to know about. One of them was feeling a little under the weather, but other than that they're okay."

I mean, honestly, no one ever wants to spell anything out and if you're really naive you'll get some interesting results. I kind of want to write one, now. It would have to be a parody, of course, as any real naive Duster would've gotten themselves killed a long time ago...

Does it make me a bad person that I enjoyed killing Dace's son? Or that I have never let Oskias go?

I never let Oskias go either. Makes no sense. Double crossing for lyrium, however...

Why should it? Dace started it by trying to get you to screw over your own House at your feast and even outright said that the Aeducans might not keep the throne after Endrin died. Letting him go at that point shows weakness and Dace's son knew the risk when he agreed to fight Provings to defend his House's honor. I'm not sure why you had to ouright kill him, though. Is that usual in these cases? No one mentioned anything about the match being lethal. If you somehow managed to lose that fight (which would have been REALLY difficult) would it have been game over or just embarrassing?

My understanding is that Glory Provings aren't lethal, but Honor Provings are. The codex talks about disputes being settled in Provings, where one death is considered acceptable compared to the many that would result from a protracted feud. Glory Provings are just tournament fights, albeit still considered a valid way to gain or lose face.

IIRC, toolset says embarrassing and Dace is smug you lost. Never tried this out for myself. I didn't enjoy killing someone for the crimes of his father so I reloaded and just embarrassed Dace in front of everyone and got his "are you proud of yourself?" response. I gave him a parting insult as he walked off and that was good enough for me.

And that's if you take Lady Helmi's advice and pretend not to know what he's up to?

And I guess Mandar's just a better person than you, then. Either that or he's worried about pissing off the king. I do wonder what Bhelen would do if you had gotten yourself killed in a Proving the day before he planned to talk you into/frame you for fratricide. Blame the casteless mercenaries?

Probably shouldn't read too much into it since it's an origin story, and they can't really kill you off before you even start the main plot. They probably just said "Well, if s/he wins, it's a typical to-the-death honor proving. If s/he loses . . . somehow, then we'll just make fun of him/her since they haven't gotten halfway through the prelude."

Sure they can kill you off. There's even an achievement for making it through an Origin without dying.

Yes, if you take her advice and act clueless. I thought this was a better set-up for RPing a person who is more interested outwitting opponents in the game of politics. Easier to respect Bhelen for the game he played on you.

Huh. Right, I have that achievement, but I forgot all about it. Not nearly as impressive as I'm Kind of a Big Deal. ;P
