Seriously though. I don't have some preconceptions over the female sex. In fact I respect quite a good number of women.
That said, the majority of women I have meet in my life sorta make me wanna puke.

It happens if a woman is more concerned with having "a man" than realizing when a man doesn't care about her and cutting her losses. I believe that even the biggest jerk of a man, if he meets a woman he really likes, he will treat her well. But if he doesn't really care, and a woman is clinging because she's hoping he'll start to care, he'll treat her like crap.
It goes both ways though. I've met some very clingy guys, but I've always been nice enough to make it VERY clear that nothing is going to happen, and then NOT see them again. A lot of women will continue to see a guy and treat him like crap, using him for whatever until she finds someone she likes better.
Both genders do it, and it's just as crappy either way.
Edit: The thing is, if someone has low self esteem, they may believe some attention is better than none and will be willing to pay dearly for it.
