LOL.... I love that speech w/Gilmore... it totally makes me think of that one quest in Oblivion... killing...more giant rats! I think that was in Morrowind too.... and yeah... totally didn't care about Fergie's wife, but I so wanted the spare the kid option

When you break it down like that.. I suppose being a HN is the most easy- you're not hated nor mistrusted... didn't that crying kid in Lothering say he doesn't like elves or dwarves?

So if I do play a HN.... DW Warrior or DW Rogue? I'm making good progress with my DC :)

(Just got Dante's Inferno for mah Xbox. All I have to say about it is: Good guy powers are more awesome then bad guy powers. Oh, and SLASH SLASH SLASH SLASH SLASH!)

Stupid games, trying to teach us morals *shakes fist*

Oh if only that's what it was about . . . instead it's a BIG DAMN HERVILI-SOMETHING story.

And even you have to admit that hitting a demon with a cross so hard that it goes through the floor is awesome.

Yeah, I studied it at college :( I love allegories. Obviously the translated version as my italian=LOL. But the imagery is ammmmmmazing.

I'm not a Christian but it's a pretty badass mythical tale, really.

Yup, it is. But I don't take much offense as it's clearly only very loosely based on the story.

It's like taking offense at God of War.

Doesn't anyone else find amazing the sheer gall they must have had to make a fairly decent action-adventure game out of what is basically a long, self-indulgent, archaic political satire?

That deserves props.

"political satire?" Explain. I've heard this theory thrown around before, but indulge me.

*eta* I know about the shoehorning of science/maths theories and one the more recent translators attempted to "reveal" the characters, but... Still not convinced it's like a self-indulgent satire of politics at the time.

Well basically the story of Inferno was created as a giant FU to the then current Pope and the Vatican.

I'm not making much sense as my body is slowly breaking down into sleep thanks to combat training, but I didn't actually know that much about the war of the guelphs and thusly trying to learn. Dante Alughieri, you BAMF of a poet. Byron wanted to be you when he grew up, obviously.

If you pay attention and know your history (or, get an annotated version like me, college drop-out that I am), Dante populates Hell with big-name political figures of the time, or close analogues, sometimes substituting historical figures for current (at time of writing) ones. The great thing about the Divine Comedy is that it manages to be both a scathing political satire and an allegorical journey of Christian spiritual enlightenment. The first colors the second, but doesn't invalidate it, which is something that very few writers could achieve and is a measure of Dante's talent.

That is why I stay out of literary discussions. You either have to write an essay on why one book is good/bad and 30 other things that it symbolizes, or you have to pull yourself out of your ass.

Both are a hassle.

Well I do have experience in the latter but not the former.
