Hmm, Tmp7704, I think I love you. Please, the world would be a better place if this mod was fully executed.

And what's the big deal BigBad? If you don't want the mod, don't use it. I know I  will be using it once Tmp releases it, cuz them arms, they scare me, which is such a shame because Dwarves can come out quite attractive even when using the vanilla CC.

My issue is not with the mod. Looks like a perfectly good one, and one that will probably be pretty popular. Anyone who wants to use it is, of course, perfectly free to do so, and I'm not gonna bash them for it. Props to Tmp7704 for creating a well-executed mod that fulfills a desire shared by a good portion of the playing community.

My issue is with the perceived need for a mod like this. I mean, I'm not saying that people are wrong for not liking dwarf arms, because it's a matter of opinion and everyone has the right to their own. I just don't get it. The whole 'dwarf arm' mini-controversy has me utterly baffled and I am trying to understand.

News of the hour! Human visitor to Orzammar claims that Dwarfs have orangutan arms! Questions abound as to what an orangutan is!

News of the hour! Dead Human found in a ventilation shaft with his arms pulled off! Authorities claim they have no leads!

For me, I have never seen a monkey-armed Dwarf, ever. I'm talkin' Lord of the Rings, Record of Lodoss Wars, concept art, normal art, comic books, other video games. Heck, even real life Dwarves don't have long arms. So when I see this short ape - person saunter up to me and start talkin', my brain parts explode.

I can only perceive it as cutting corners (or being practical) on the sake of animating the game. "All of the movements are shared, so why waste time creating slightly different animations for a small portion of characters." That is what I think Bioware did whenever I see a Dwarf.

And greateski, that was awesome.

Well, anyway; I've decided from now on to pretend that the Scout in the DN origin is from house Gavorn, Vartags house.

I think the scout is just a warrior. Notice how you can kill him without anyone really caring and his word isn't enough to condemn you but Ivo, a noble, has to back it up and it only carries weight because of Ivo's nobility. If he really were a noble he would have been labelled at least 'dwarven noble' like others were and might have even had a name.

To be perfectly honest i like personally the longer arms on the male dwarves -- they're so stocky, this "primal" appearance suits them and actually, imo. On the females it just feels off. But that's only personal preference and with it aside i don't quite believe the dwarves are supposed to have arms of this length "lore-wise". It's something that can only be conclusively settled by BioWare folks, though.

edit:

Yeah, I considered he was just some random warrior caste. It makes the most sense.

...But I really like the idea of him being a Gavorn.

didnt the toolset mention that the Gavorns were very insignificant? Ivo, is atleast achieving renown.

He could always be from an insignificant warrior caste family that is allied with the Gavorns.

What a time for me to be taking a nap! I miss all these wonderful conversations -- I am very excited for your mod, tmp!

@BigBad -- I totally sympathize and get what you're saying. Normally I would agree with you, but while the male dwarves are perfect the way they are, the female dwarves really do feel like they are squished down versions of the human model. The dwarf females come up to the shoulders of the male human and pretty much look like they're just supposed to be shorter. That the arms didn't "keep up" in the process feels like sloppy modeling. I get this same impression about dwarves in Orzammar -- the writing is great, but whoever was making the models didn't seem to be excited about dwarves because so many of them are just uninspiring. I think the fact that the female characters also share the same skeleton/animations as the male character also hurts their femininity overall. They sit with their legs wide open even though they wear skirts and have spread apart postures. It just feels like the dwarf females got the short end of the stick, so to speak.

I'm so used to the arms now... Cripes, idk! I feel somehow I'm betraying my dwarvenish using it. Is that weird? That's weird, right...

You could always just wait to install the mod until you get more used to the idea of having normal arms. If you don't you might get horribly distracted by the lack of gorills arms which would be truly ironic.

I think mods that allow older Dwarves beards to extend all the way down to their knees would be cool.

Or not, I'm undecided. I like the mental image, though.

And we need more dwarven fanfiction, too. Seriously, 28 Brosca fics and 43 Aeducan ones at ff.net? And I wrote fourteen of those 43? That's kind of pathetic. Posted Image

Which makes my DN turning down Alistair and his strange red plant for many reasons but chief among them his creepy resemblance to her brother all the less comprehensible to these people. Posted Image

Other than the similar hair style / color, how is Alsitair similar to Bhelen?

Bhelen seems to be much more handsome, which is not lost to many dwarven ladies in Orzammar. No one on the surfacer complimented Alistair's looks on otherhand.

This is what I mean about the dwarven writing being great, but the models completely uninspired. Look at how often faces are being recycled. These are from the noble origins alone.

I can understand servants looking like crap, but she's noble caste.

Which is really strange given how huge Bhelen's nose is. And I don't know, it just struck me one day that they looked a lot alike and I haven't been able to get past it.

And wow, Gilsa, those were some very ugly dwarves. Posted Image I don't understand. They have the potential to be so cute and they just put out...that.

No wonder Rica lands Bhelen. Everyone else is too hideous for him to consider. Maybe it's a good thing I can't see the character's faces very well when they're not in a dialogue?
