Other uninteresting trivia, they seem to celebrate name-day instead of birthday.

Would those two be on different dates? I suppose Mardy doesn't name the DN son until he has a House but other Houses might already have names picked out. I'm willing to bet Bhelen had Endrin Jr. named the minute he knew it was a boy, for instance.

I wonder if they have names for specific dates (as RL), or if she means the day when you are named.

It ought to be when you are usually entered into the memories (non-duster of course). As such it might be a big thing. Something akin to a christening.

And that might explain why DNM Jr. doesn't get named until he's successfully an Aeducan or a Harrowmont. Although since, if you choose Harrowmont, you become the head of House Aeducan and Mardy's kid is the only one you're likely to ever have, would they join House Aeducan after the Blight?

She as a concubine and he as heir to you I'd presume. The naming is probably where fatherhood is decided too. I don't know what would happen to Rica and Endrin Jr. though.

Where is Mary when you need her?

This is why I think her to be a former noble hunter.

Doesn't Rica say noble-hunting is a new thing? Am I misremembering?

Herr Uhl wrote...

Damn, DC and Rica have the same dad.

It might just mean the DC's father left -- literally left -- his/her mother when she had two mouths to feed. Not that he was the one who gave her both of those mouths to feed.

I don't know what would happen to Rica and Endrin Jr. though.

That probably depends on you should you live and come back. If you didn't have a child with Mardy then having little Endrin on hand to be your heir would probably be a sound move.

MUMMY DEAREST CONT.

(In Royal Place during or after A Paragon of Her King)

Mother: "Well, look at you all fancied up." (VO: Bitter, mocking)
(IF: Female) Mother: "You find some princeling to give you pretty clothes while he sticks it to you, like your sister?" (VO: Bitter, mocking)
(IF: Male) Mother: "Did the prince decide he likes boys, or did you find some other way to bring in coin?" (VO: Bitter, mocking)

1. Now I remember why I left.
Mother: "Right. Rica told me." *Go to tree 1*

2. I'm a Grey Warden now, Mother.
Mother: "Right. Rica told me." *Go to tree 1*

4. That's disgusting!
Mother: "That's right. I'm a disgusting old drunk. That's why you left, isn't it?" (VO: Accusing) *Go to tree 1*

TREE 1
Mother: "Running off to the surface, just like your father."  (VO: Just really bitter and unhappy about life)
Mother: "Never thought to share a little of that fortune with your mother?" (VO: Prodding, guilt tripping)

1. You're living in a palace! *Go to tree 2*

Mother: "Heh. You know what they keep up here? They got wine from the surface, ale, brandy... They got a whole room of it." (VO: Delighted)

Mother: "Well, who needs you, anyway? Rica and I are doing fine here, just fine!" (VO: Angry, abusive) *End dialogue*

(IF: Morrigan_Party) Morrigan: "We have more in common than I thought..." (VO: Considering her own mother) *End dialogue*

(IF: Bhelen_King) 5. That "brat" is the crown prince, thanks to me.
Mother: "Well, great. One more thing my kids've done that I'm supposed to be happy for. But do they ever think about me?" (VO: Bitterly)
Mother: "You think I don't deserve what everyone else has? You think you deserve them fancy
clothes?" (VO: Spitefully)

You have to wonder why Rica even bothered to take her mother with her when she moved.

I think she takes the best mother of Ferelden contest, though in sharp competition with Flemeth and Jowans mum.

Jowan has a mother?

I assumed he simply spawned from a LiveJournal somewhere . . . he certainly whines enough.

He possibly is though Bhelen won't commit. What does Rica say if it goes the other way?

Need to hurry and make dinner so apologize for lack of formatting for now. I may come back later and edit this post to make it prettier, but this should be everything she says in relation to the DC not siding with Bhelen.

When you first run into her again and she explains her concubine position, etc:

PC: But... Bhelen poisoned his father and killed his brother.
Rica: That's a horrible, vicious lie! Bhelen told me all about it. Lord Harrowmont always favored Bhelen's older brother, the one who murdered Trian. (VO: Indignant)
Rica: Bhelen thinks Harrowmont set the whole thing up to frame him. Then he had the gall to whisper these things to the dying king. (VO: Explaining how things really are)
Rica: When the king sent him away... Bhelen cried for weeks. Tell me you don't believe these horrible rumors! (Sadly)
PC: Bhelen is a liar and a kinslayer.
Rica: How could you say that? (VO: Accusing)
Rica: Have you been in the sun so long you forget who raised you and kept you from having to beg? (VO: Accusing)
(IF: Female) Rica: This is my life now, little sister. Bhelen is my life. How can you begrudge me this happiness? (VO: passionate)
(IF: Male) Rica: My life finally means something, little brother. Don't take that from me. (VO: passionate)
Rica: But this isn't why you're here, is it? What's wrong?

(Filler conversation explaining the blight)

Rica: But... I can introduce you to Vartag Gavorn. He's Bhelen's chief lieutenant. He could help you if anyone could.
PC: I'd rather talk to Lord Harrowmont.
Rica: I can't believe you! If Bhelen becomes king, your nephew is in line for the throne. You'd deny him
that chance? (VO: A little angry)
Rica: I-I can't talk to you when you're like this. Come back when you regain your wits." (VO: Exasperated)
(SET: Rica_Sad)

----
(IF: Rica_Sad)
Rica: So, did you find that beastly Harrowmont, and hear the slanders he speaks of my son's father? (VO: Scornfully)
1. Not yet, but I hear he'd be a better king than Bhelen.
2. Yes, and he seems like a good man.

(Both 1 and 2 lead to the same conversation below.)
Rica: Do you do this just to taunt me? What do you think that man would do to us if he took the throne? (VO: Angrily)
Rica: You'd see Mother and me back in the streets and your nephew left fatherless? (VO: Angrily)
PC: Harrowmont has a reputation for honesty and fairness.
Rica: Which he hides behind to spread his lies! What does it matter to you who rules?
Rica: You've found a life on the surface. This is my life! Support Bhelen, for me. I'll do all I can to ensure he helps you in return. (VO: bitter)
PC: What if Bhelen did kill his brother?
Rica: You don't understand what nobles are like. They fight for power like rats over bread. (VO: Trying to persuade someone passionately)
Rica: His brothers hated him. They, and Lord Harrowmont, would do anything to bring him down. But he wouldn't stoop to that level. (VO: Defending someone passionately)
Rica: He knows the most important thing to the ancestors is family loyalty. I hope you know that, too.
PC: I'm sorry. I cannot support Bhelen as king.
(IF: Female) Rica: Then you are no longer my sister. Maybe if I'd let Mother sell you on the street you wouldn't be forcing my son there now! (VO: Hateful)
(IF: Male) Rica: Then you are no longer my brother. I wish I'd let you die as a boy, so you wouldn't be killing my son now! (VO: Full of hate)

-- OR --

3. I don't want to have this argument now.
Rica: Of course not. You're too busy destroying your only nephew's future! (VO: Angrily)

-----
If you fight Proving in Harrowmont's name:
Rica: I can't believe you went and fought a Proving--a Proving--for that wretched Harrowmont.  And I told Bhelen we could trust you! (VO: Angry, betrayed)

----
If Harrowmont crowned king:
Rica: You traitor! I have nothing to say to you. (VO: Furiously)
Rica: You are no longer my sister/brother. (VO: With finality)

-----
Post Coronation
Rica: A Grey Warden. And now a hero, too? A bit different from the slums, hmm? (VO: amused)
(IF: Harrowmont_King) PC: Sorry I got your husband killed.
Rica: Bah, it worked out just fine. My son will be the Aeducan heir, and I don't have a husband to boss me around. I should thank you. (VO: She's saying "don't worry about it!" -- the player actually did her a favor, weirdly)
Rica: Mother swore off drinking when she heard about what you did. She's been sober ever since. And as ill as a fellcat in water.

Etc. I can't remember if I already posted Rica's whole post-cornonation dialogue, but those are the only Harrowmont specific lines. She ends things on a good note with the Brosca.

She's certainly grateful to him for taking her and her mother out of Dust Town but since she didn't end up back on the streets and enough time has passed, she's looking on the bright side.

Do you get a chance to bring up Rica to Harrowmont?

Even though he would be her husband, she needn't be his wife. Or what do concubines call their male love interest?

well this is interesting. And sad.

Mother: "You're never gonna be nothing but Dust Town. Just like me." (VO: Abusive)

well, ouch. The Rica conversations are also interesting. Seems I was right about somethings though. And my Brosca will never, never forgive her Mother. Urgh, what a hag.

I don't like anyone on my dad's side of the family (except for one uncle) because the vast majority of them are drug addicts, have not treated their wives or children well, or are constantly trying to borrow money from my dad. I can see how much it hurts my dad that he never had the ideal upbringing, that he had to quit school so he could help provide, so whenever any one from his family is around, I am very respectful for my dad's benefit. No other reason. So in this situation, my Brosca tolerates her mam nicely out of respect for Rica since Rica works so hard to keep the family together. I know those two situations are not the same, but it makes it easier for me to not kick the mom to the curb out of goody-two-shoes reasons.

Oh Missa is "tolerant" but there's no forgiveness. She won't exactly go out of her way to be nice though, and let's Rica deal with her.

And probably end up bitter and angry and with moaaaarr Mummy Dearest complexes, but there we are. At least she can't breed and foist those issues onto a kid.

I actually get on really well with my family and <3 my mummy, but my Mother's side? Well, my mum was born in a caravan and I've got gypsy blood. She clawed her way out of it though, but it still lingers with certain things. That side of my family is... Well. My aunt is another Kallah, let's just say, and my cousins (who I get on very well with too) are incredibly angry about it still. I would be too, to be honest.

Oh dear lord I am over sharing on the internets again... QUICK POST A LOLCAT AS A DISTRACTION GO GO GO

Wooow thank you Gilsa for all that wonderful Rica dialogue....once agian, why I find the DC origin to have the most meat storywise.... I mean, your sister and nephew's lives ride on whom you support as king- not to mention your own life as a dwarf as well....

Daaaang I'm gonna remake my DC again and stick with it this time.....

Can you find dialogue if you supported Behlen as king??

Sucks that the Mom/PC never really come to good terms....

Except that if you side with Bhelen and have never heard of Rica she'll still be Bhelen's concubine and Endrin his potential heir while if you support Harrowmont you're either the DN that can make sure your nephew is taken care of or else he'll still be the heir to House Aeducan.

Really? Hmmm

so which origin has the best impact? DC or DN?

I personally think DC cuz well... you have the attachment to Rica, and baby Endrin is family....:)
