It's strange....but that show...and well House...are the only two shows I can sit and watch along with my sixty year old mother and my younger brother, and that's only because it involve Medicine ( since both of them are Doctors ) me? I laugh my ass off watching them, that is until they start discussing the specifics of diseases and I get thrown off to the side watching them argue....

Sarah: reviewed, Costin: watching. Herr: yes, music would be at a reception. Somethign staid and traditional, though.

Out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean by breakdown?

Probably. Now to continue asking pointless questions, what different modes of dwarf music are there, and what instruments would be used.

Some major things happened in that chapter that you have to deal with later, including Gorim. It's not a "this is done now" thing at all, especially considering their relationship. I'm not saying you write a breakdown in camp with Aunn sobbing her heart out on Alistair's shoulder, but there has to be a "i'll shift this to a place so I can deal with it later" somewhere, even in the middle of a srsbzns Blight to stop.

In some regards I hate "relationfics" where it's just, literally, little snapshots of the warden and their love interest. I'm all YOU HAVE A BLIGHT TO STOP WHUT but at the same time you have to show the "human" side, and LIs are good for this. (Note: oddly enough these are the most popular on ff.net and I wonder if I just did a Missa/Zev DDW and deleted, you know, the actual story if it would have more readership...)

Now Aunn can do this "humanising" by herself- put things in order in her head and move
on to something else. You can even make your character say one thing and be all "totally okay, I assure you" when blatantly they are not, even off screen so to speak. The other characters can be oblivious to this, but as the reader there has to be some progression on that side of things, otherwise it seems so underdeveloped.

Thought about this often, oddly enough. Things made from metal mainly, so bells, metal guitar strings, some time of piping...

I don't think wind instruments would be very dwarven somehow.

Well she is soon going to see ghost Trian, then read the note, then see Gorim again when they go back to Denerim to get Sten's armor so hopefully I'll manage to come up with enough angst. Unfortunately, (well for story-writing purposes) the last really upsetting thing that happened to me was when my grandmother died when I was eleven so I'm hardly an expert on that kind of thing. Do you have any suggestions?

That's why I prefer humor. You don't need to have had problems to be decent at it...

All I'm saying in my waffle (and oh man I am waffling today) is that there has to be some attempt at explanation. A major event has happened. It might seem a small little pebble thrown in a water, but there will be ripples. It's to be expected.

The "write what you know" debate is often interesting, but I think I need another appletini before I even attempt that.

@ herr- Penny whistles seem dwarven to me, idk what you're on about. It's something out of tin, I could see a dwarf artisan making them!

Maybe a flute, but the other things are out of it in my opinion. Just feels wrong.

Certainly, but I am annoyed by how much some authors pour into showing the human side...

A thought crossed my mind though...when you get to the DR ( I imagine you are going to take it ) and Loghain talks about his dead wife, I think it would be fitting for Missa to ask...."You mean Anora's mother or Rowan?"

Priceless.

look, think at what they have on hand;

*bronto/nug leather for skins
*metal. Lots of it.
*An understanding of ventalitation and/or what happens when air whistles around shafts/tubes.

Research metal instruments, see what you think fits.

Usually stories that I've seen that touch on Gorim dumping them (although to be fair some are just one-shots) go the route of having Alistair chasing after them and comforting them so it becomes less about 'my boyfriend got married and I'm crushed' and more 'hey, look at the Alistair romance I'm heavily hinting at. Isn't he sweet to be comforting her like this?'

Of course, I also find it ridiculous that if your LA - romanced or not - is going to be in Denerim she can't be bothered to at least stop by and say hi to Gorim even if she doesn't have much time.

How would she even know about Rowan? She's only mentioned by Loghain in-game when he appeals to Eamon using her name as Eamon's sister and, frankly, if you heard that Loghain wasn't happy about Rowan/Maric because he had to sacrifice his lover for that to happen then the in-game clues would point to that lover being Maric the way he kept going on about him.

And he never actually married Rowan but since everyone calls Rica Bhelen's wife and that's not true I suppose that could work.

I so want it to be a xylophone. Just because. Making something piono-ish or organ-is would be possible too.

Can you make a lute in any other material than wood though... They have the guts at least.

Not hard? Why would Loghain talk about Rowan with Missa? (He would be the only one that could shed any real light on it, all the others are dead)

Ask about the rebellion, listen to Loghain speak with great fondness about Rowan....link the dots and then question him if he had feelings for her.

Truly Her, you lack imagination.

Why would he talk about that? It just seems out of character for him to pull that up.

In-game we were friends and he barely was willing to talk about how he met Maric and didn't go any further. Besides, I think Missa's going to gut Loghain anyway.
