Defiling the Ashes makes no sense if you play a pragmatic character. An insane one, yes.
Nevermind, (I am reading the quest on wiki) it seems like he justs asks you to pour the blood so you become "Andraste's Champion". In his twisted head, it will make up for all the cultists you killed earlier. So yeah, it is not pragmatic.

So I was thinking about it in class today (so...boring...) and while a framed DN could understandably be pissed, does a kinslaying DN have much reason to be pissed at Bhelen? All he really did was fan the flames of your and Trian's rivalry until you both made the decision to kill the other and then tattle on you afterwards. For all you know, if you had refused to kill Trian then you wouldn't have gotten exiled.
yes because Bhelen prompted you and lied. MY AEDUCAN JUSTIFIES THIS OKAY

He lied about backing you up, I guess, but Trian WAS out to kill you (after prompting, I'm sure). I wonder if it was harder to convince Trian then it was to convince the DN given that he seems personally offended that you would try to kill him and insists it just makes House Aeducan looks bad, not to mention that he would rather arrest you (although some of that was probably so he can watch you get torn apart by the Assembly and fall from favor) and either you or that stupid scout force a fight.soignee wrote...

Of course, I play a character who often wishes that she had killed Trian so she wouldn't be a victim and could at least say she earned all the enmity and the exile so if I had a character that did deserve it then they'd probably be more 'Ancestors, I was so stupid!' then 'Bhelen ruined my life!'

Quoting in its entirety because it bears repeating!Corker wrote...
Thank you, Gilsa!
I got some Dust Town verse for soignee. I am the whitest white girl who ever glowed under a blacklight, so bear with me.
The meter is Lore Approved, vaguely based on further verse by Paragon Seuss:
We looked! And we saw him! He stepped on the slug!
We looked! And we saw him! The Nug in the Rug!
"Why do you sit there?" he asked with a shrug.
"I know it is cold and the lava's not runny
But we can have lots of good fun that is funny!"
"Blue" = lyrium
My gloves are made of drakeskin and my knife is of red steel
I'm not your common duster, man, this is the real deal
You come onto my turf and you know I'll take you down
Ain't no one as big as me in all of Dust Town
You gotta be tough if you're gonna deal in Blue
I got to where I am by screwing over all of you
So when I say bend over, you bend over and you take it
Jarvia's my name, remember if you want to make it
And just for Missa, I shamefully present a limerick:
There was an Antivan assassin
Who thought he'd go Grey Warden-stabbin
"Hey, he's kind of hot"
The Grey Warden thought
And now in her tent they are thrashin
That was just pure fun. <3 <3

Well, I can see the DN being angry at Bhelen for quickly rallying support to have you exiled so quickly defying the normal procedures in dwarven law. When I look back at the decision I made for my character, I sort of regret doing so since it was a bone-headed move to believe your brother so quickly, but hey, that is life in Dwarven society.

But can you really get as upset since the getting you thrown out of Orzammar so quickly and without a trial happens regardless but at least you're actually guilty?Herr Uhl wrote...
Without Bhelen meddling you probably would have gotten away with pinning it on Trian attacking you.

Not as upset, but still pissed. You didn't plan on being found guilty, if you weren't a stupid noble you would have at least the pin it on Trian to pull, Bhelen makes this impossible.Sarah1281 wrote...

Assuming Ivo cooperated. The scout's word could be overlooked but if two nobles disagreed then there probably would have been a trial.Herr Uhl wrote...

That's a good question. I think he probably would have still been on the expedition as it was a big thing pretty much everyone was involved in in some way and he was trying to work to increase the prestige of his House but would he have been assigned to you? Possibly.Caak7i wrote...
Would Ivo even be in the expedition if he was not Bhelen's puppet? I always thought Bhelen planted him there with his connections he made over the years.

Who did assign the squads anyway; would it be Harrowmont since he was the "General" at the time? If so, I would thought he would assign you with someone more experienced like the fighter you beat before beating Ivo in the Proving Rounds. When it is your "special" day, I would assume your survival is paramount in the expedition. Not saying you have to be protected like an infant, but I was Harrowmont, I would assign veterans to help the young Aeducan.

I think Bhelen got to them after they were announced. Well Ivo anyways, since he seems so hesitant.

I find it funny that everyone else is accompanied by several guards and yet you are left with Gorim when your father and Harrowmont asks you to do the most important task in the mission itself. Your father forced you to be accompanied to the Proving grounds by guards due to potential angry mob of denied merchants, but yet a walk into the Deep Roads is less dangerous? I know game play wise it would ruin the challenge if you have a bigger squad at your disposal, but it still looks silly in my opinion.
There was supposed to be no to very few darkspawn (IIRC), and they didn't count on mercenaries ambushing you.

It's like Prince Harry over here being in Iraq, you know? Of course actual soldiers went in first to clear it out. I reckon some nobles only play at commander, to be honest.
