@Sarah - here's the WIP (work in progress) that she showed me. I don't know if other people get them or if I was just the exception since she was letting me know she hadn't forgotten about me. I love seeing WIPs and getting an idea of how an artist puts it all together.

Wow, that looks really cool. Definitely goes to show how much work goes into these things. I know that I haven't gotten anything of the sort but then again you were waiting for awhile, right? It's only been a little over two weeks for me and even the people who will need to wait longer probably won't get one as she'll be working on other commissions instead of theirs and not just be busy with real life.Gilsa wrote...

I want to apologize for that but I will only read mostly complete stories.... it is just too confusing to keep track of several stories that drag on for months with weeks in between and still remember what went on.
and that also goes for Aro's, I am really looking forward of spending a few uninterrupted days of reading,
thank you in advance
No worries! Nearly done, to be honest. Other then the sequel, of course. Which i suppose I should start to write in tandem? IDK, I sort of have to invent a whole new world, Antiva lore is vague.

Oooooh. Shineeeeyyyyyyy.
Mannn I l have all 4 saves for Missa, my computer ate them all. 1 at endgame, 1 before the archedemon, 1 at Lothering andddddd 1 in Orzammar.
Great.

*puts on srsbzns smoking jacket and lights pipe*
Well, both. The former is brilliant as I have less structure, but the latter means I have to:
1) Get people interested in original characters they don't know or expect in fanfiction, like Antivan politicians, crow masters, Dalish, etc. That's going ot be a struggle, and I'm hoping the people who read DDW will be sympathetic to that.
2) Not write throwaway lines and expect people to get it as they've played the game/know the lore, and be less careless with detail.
The OC issue is going to be the toughest. The only characters I can rely on to keep people interested is going to Zevran, really, possibly Jowan and/or Alistair. I love me some political backbiting and mechanics, and Antiva to me is just as
*blows bubbles out of pipe thoughtfully*
I KNOW I'LL JUST WRITE 50K WORDS ON ZEVRAN AND MISSA DOIN' IT, THAT WILL GET READERS AMIRITE

It's so interesting to see where folks are coming from. I got here via tabletop RPGs, where this concern over OCs just isn't an issue. In fact, you're expected to take whatever paltry crumbs they toss you in the sourcebook and expand intelligently on it. I love doing it; I made something of a cottage industry of writing demicanon for Vodacce, an Antivanesque locale in the 7th Sea game. It would never even occur to me that, as a fanfic writer, it's something you have to account for and worry about.
And I believe you when you say it is! Tabletop gaming =/= writing fic. Different audiences, different expectations.
Hey, isn't there a "Dragon Age" tabletop RPG? I wonder if it has more information on Antiva, Orlais, etc., in it. Uh... no. Looks to be Ferelden-centric. Darn.

Generally I find that writers only bother with fight scenes when they add something to the story ( i.e. A company of men is routed and killed, someone close to the main characters is wounded or dies )

You cannot have a war story without fight scenes, end of discussion on that matter.
While my personal preference agrees with this, it seems fandom doesn't, which I find perculiar. This is a game with very visual gore splatter and fighting, and the fic I've come across barely even mention weapons and armour (unless it's being pulled off...)
Both The Calling and The Stolen Throne have page long fight scenes also, if I remember right. (Calling does anyway, re-reading it at the moment.)
I read the stuff on ff.net it and go, "how. How can I believe this character can hold their own in a fight? Can even lead and coerce companions, enemies and allies?" Makkkkkkkkkkkkessss no senssssssssssssssse. *soignee nerdrage*
Again, this is a personal preference, and I suppose I can't really scowl too obviously at people who do want to write/play/draw Barbie's playhouse with their warden, as you know. It's fandom. BUT. I loathe weak wardens, and struggle with some fanfic people have written due to this. And when I mean weak I mean I struggle to believe they can hold their own with the tasks in game, not just the Princess style "my hair is too fabulous to fight darkspawn."
Oh mannnn I'm ranting again...

I wasn't actually seriously suggesting skipping them, you know. And most DA stories aren't war stories. Besides, I think my characters sound more competent when I'm not failing at fight scenes.Costin_Razvan wrote...

Ummmm, not that I write fanfic or could do a better job. So I suppose I'm the worst type of critic. I think I'll write a fanfic about Elissa Cousland who is even more cunning than Anora. She'll kick butt, take names, lead lead LEAD like she does in game... And yeh, Alistair will become King Cuckold, but they're best buddies so it won't bother him. Hmmmm, now I just have to figure out where to start it!
Edit: It of course will end with Elissa trying to make a baby with Zevran and Alistair trying to make one with Bann Bimbo and whoever makes the baby first bloodline stays on the throne.

I love Bhelen's reaction when you do that, his realization that you could have easily destroyed his chance for the throne with just a word but even though you hadn't even seen him since your return and he's screwed you over and slandered you repeatedly (including calling you an exiled murderer whose word can't be trusted just two minutes earlier) but instead you cemented his place on the throne.Verly wrote...
Wynn sounds upset in that convo. lol. I almost always pick Bhalen and don't even play around with Harry about it. I almost forgot..the last DN I finished with I went along with Harry until it was time to put the throne on someone...and THEN I picked her brother.
@Gilsa: I'm finally on a computer that makes your pictures show up and all I have to say is: shut up, Wynne.
Edit: Besides, all you do is promise to fight in the Proving (which you do), kill Jarvia (which you also do), and find a Paragon (which you STILL do). I don't recall saying anything about actually putting him on the throne.
