If you side with Bhelen, you can only screw him over politically, though, and perhaps legally. Has your dwarf been to the tower? If not then I guess Morrigan, Alistair, or Wynne told you about it at some point.

@soignee: Jowan!

Nope, no tower, no Wynne, and Morrigan is sitting in camp because I get tired of her disapproving every friggin thing I do. Serena is not a mage fan AT ALL. All that magic crap freaks her rightthehellout. In fact, the only reason she's saving the mages is for Orzammar. They have enough problems right now without effing up the Lyrium income, and the blight. She has looked at her treaties and knows she has Orzammar's warriors (and legion of the dead!), Human warriors from redcliffe will be hers if she manages to save the Arl. She assumes the Dalish are archers, the only thing missing is magic for efficient battlefield healing.

They don't explicitly state whether he marries her. I think it is highly unlikely given she has no caste, he has enough problems, and she'll stick around regardless. OTOH, both criers talk about Bhelen's upcoming marriage to a casteless. Although if you're playing a DC then whenever you mention Rica as his wife Rica insists she's just a concubine. But Bhelen calls her his wife if you ask if Endrin will become King...maybe Bhelen plans to marry her but never thought to mention it to her? Posted Image

LOL. See, Rica being Rica, it wouldn't surprise me if Bhelen had said he'd marry her, the whole of Orzammar knew it, and heck, they'd already had the wedding, she'd probably still just tell people she was a concubine. She just seems like the character who's unassuming and very unsure of herself, probably as a result of her castelessness or at least magnified by it. She likely wouldn't declare herself to be the wife of a Prince/King because she didn't want to appear like she was getting above her station, which no matter the changes to Orzammar's structure, in her mind will always be very low. That's how I read her, but I've only played 1 DC (sadly, I tend to be an elf-player mainly).

While I don't agree about the marryiing Rica part, I do agree on the observation about "knowing her place" and taking to her role very seriously. She corrects you if you say "married to," and tells you wryly she's a courtesan and the mother of his heir, that's all.

Actually, if you're a DN and find Gorim in Denerim, he also tels you it's been about a year.

And when you go to Orzammar Provings, that proving fan what's his name will say "Better believe I saw your proving last year" if you fought in it.

So yeah, it's a year. There are no horses in Ferelden so it took a lot of time to get to Ostagar and back and who knows how long it took you to get out of the wilds.

And IIRC, Alistair (or is it Teagan?) mentions it's about a day's trip from Redcliffe to the Circle Tower. Time is something that isn't kept track of very well in the game TBH.

You don't like mages? They're awesome! I still don't know how I want to play one exactly......o.o

that one dwarf wants to study magic.... that's cool!

how IS magic detectable in DA? For some reason I see it being very Harry Potter like....except no friendly letter to a nice magical school...

@soignee -- having zero persuade was mostly for the lulz at the start, but the more I played the game, the more I really liked how it enhanced her character. She's used to talking with her fists, but that doesn't get results as often either so she is making an effort to persuade instead. She's just so bad at it, but she does improve as she goes along. (Still not putting points in persuade, but she can pick better dialogue responses and go down different trees that way.) This fits into Sigrun's theme of railing against the system at first, but the experience of being a Legionnaire (or GW) changes a person. For better or worse, it does change a person. So my Brosca may not be the smartest knife in the drawer, but she'll have other features that will make her a stronger leader for Awakening.

I forgot to mention that another reason I sided with Cairdin was because Bhelen specifically said he didn't care what happened to Jarvia Branka if her interests didn't dovetail with his. She flapped her gums about a thousand Bhelens dying and history not noticing and so on. It was obvious she didn't care about him and since Bhelen didn't care about her either, no big loss to cut her loose and side with Cairdin. Just pointing that out so it wouldn't look like the anvil argument was the deciding factor. Just part of it.

I like taking a break from having to RP my character from being a genius of some sort. I'm enjoying the consequences because it keeps my game different and interesting. Since this is the first time Zath is alive in my games, I'm going to get to hear his comments at the estate before we march off to Denerim. That'll be cool.

Edit: Ugh, got two dwarf villans mixed up. Corrected now!

I think she meant her DC wasn't and that's not surprising since they know very little about magic ande even races that produce mages are wary of them.

Magic isn't detected, well, magically but either the parents or someone else catches them doing it and tells the Chantry or someone in the Chantry witnesses them doing magic.

@Gilsa: How do you get enough money to buy the more expensive noble clothing? I could only afford the wedding dress-looking one and that was by selling everything else. Then when I tried to sell it back he only wanted to give me a quarter of a sovereign! Cheapskate...

You can allow yourself to be fooled by Dace and get about 15 gold pieces out of it.

Oh, I forgot about that. He's just so obviously trying to trick you, though, and unless you talk the long route to the throne so you're not walking near Lady Helmi you find out the true story, too.

Although I've heard you can also get him to warn you a relative of yours is trying to kill you before Bhelen even brings up Trian's supposed murder plan.

It's Teagan I believe. I'm not sure if its as much about time as it is about scaling. For instance, we can assume it takes about 2 weeks to travel from Ostagar to Lothering (depending on how much down time you allot for recovery from your wounds). When you arrive at Ostagar, Duncan delivers a message from Arl Eamon to King Cailin. So the Arl was probably not poisoned until either very shortly before or after Ostagar. When you get to Lothering, Arl Eamon is sick. When you arrive at Redcliffe from Lothering, he's been sick for about three weeks. So, depending on how much time you assume you spend in Lothering, it's about 2-3 days travel to Redcliffe. However the tower on the other side of the lake (just past Lothering) is only 1 day's travel. So the scaling of the map does not necessarily correlate to the time line you can glean from various conversations. I really think these time references are there to give the PC perspective on the events and necessarily representative of actual time to travel a specific distance.

You must also remember that the wardens are wanted criminals. So, they will probably not take the fastest or most direct routes to and from various destinations. There also needs to be allowances for things such as weather and down time for maintenance, gathering supplies, etc.

Yes. As a player I like mages, and have played two so far. I have another in mind. But my Dwarf Noble? nope, all that sparklefingers stuff freaks her out. Wynne may change her perception however. But for now all she's seen is Morrigan making brain grenades out of people, and Emissaries.

Alienware had a promotion where you could get a free shield in the PC game. (I think the promotion is still good.) It's worth about 16 gold in origins. Not sure how much it's worth in Awakening. I rarely use the shield so I sell it in all of my origins to get money. My Brosca was walking around with 16g in her pocket and none of the origin vendors had armor upgrades. Just cheap potions. =p

There's always the Dace route. If you don't want your actual game to be fooled by Dace, then just make saves as you go along and then load up an earlier save, get fooled by dace, buy the outfits, and then make a save indicating that it's for screenshot purposes. I do that sometimes. Just go to an earlier save, spend the money, and walk around with the outfits for fun. You can go back to "I was never fooled by Dace" game later. ;)

Lady Jess how do you play your mages? Wynne is a natrual healer... so my PC can't be that... Morrigan thrives on blowing stuff up.....

So what can the PC specialize in? Even picking the whole fire or ice line confuses me..... and that gryph line.... confused

My favorite one is an Arcane Warrior/Sprit Healer (Her 3rd will be battlemage). That way I didn't have to take Wynne with me every time, Or Morrigan either. She can melee, blow stuff up, and heal.

I generally take 3 in fire up to fireball and skip Inferno. Only take the first three in ice, and max out electric because I like the visual effect.

For AW I don't always go past the first talent, and take it to wear heavier armors. But on my best mage I maxed it, as well as all four spirit healer spells.

The Glyph line is good if your a blow em up type, but I only go up to Glyph of repulsion, and thats the only one I use. It's quite nice to put it where you are standing, so you can keep casting while enemies bounce off it and one of your party members (usually zev in my game) can pop back and pick them up.

I grab Spell wisp, spell might, the two spells that make the mobs blow up in bloody chunks, and the full line with crushing prison.

Having two healers is never a bad thing. Neither is having two destructo-mages.

And I will totally have dwarf + Leliana, too. That game is coming up next! I'm not even allowing myself to make the face in the toolset because I want to focus completely on Brosca + Zev right now.

HOWEVER, I would like to hear any RP reasons for a dwarf to be a ranger. I'm kinda tired of the warrior/rogue shtick and ranger is the only one I haven't done on a dwarf, but it doesn't make sense when they're underground and only have access to Brontos and nugs.

Dang your Zev scenes beat mine, are you using BSC mild or medium?

Also, for Ranger, she could learn it via the Dalish? make that your first treaty.

For the game itself? I am using the elf female BSC mild, but for screenshots? All of them. While the animations can be horribly off in most of them, there's usually about four seconds worth of good screenshots to take in each version. The top two pictures of Brosca and Zev are actually swiped from "submissive zev" which is meant for male/male elf, I think. I didn't care because I like the "quid pro quo" aspect of the Brosca/Zev relationship. No way would she let Zev do all the work, especially if she's the one ordering him into the tent at times. So I like to have screenshots with them both taking turns in being the giver.

Also, for Ranger, she could learn it via the Dalish? make that your first treaty.

Another RP reason is simply that Leliana teaches her how to use the bow and arrow. I may go with that. Fumble about in origins with a dagger and then let Leliana show her how to handle a bow instead?

I need to look that mod up I think. Are  you using them all together?

And you don't need ranger spec to go bow. It really only gives you animal summoning abilities which, appear magical.  My cousland is a hybrid rogue, some dual wield, and archer, and goes assassin duelist. The "dueling" buff works as an archer too.  That gives her a spec for each playstyle.

Edited to add: I found Ranger disappointing, but Bard/Duelist I hear is a fun one.  Just...never give Nathaniel Howe the bard skill. Oh god he yells for a long time >.<

Going ranger gives you a wolf that allows you to take better screenshots at the dwarf's height. The camera gets lowered to the ground with the wolf so when you pan around, you can have screenshots where the dwarf fills up the screen better. Leliana could easily be the ranger in this game though so it's np. For awakening though, if Nathaniel is not the ranger, then it'd be up to your dwarf to get that wolf. With three specs, no big deal.

And no, not using the mods all together. I just swap in each folder in the override when I'm done with each scene. Since I can't get them to replay after the first time (no idea why -- I've even taken out my entire override directory to no avail), I just get the massage offer over and over and over. I was using a face morph for the above screenshots on a different character. I haven't actually bedded Zev yet in this game. I wanted to have the threesome with him at the Pearl first, but ... I clearly am going to fail that since it's a persuade check with Isabela. *weeps*

Oh good point. I noticed when I gave Leliana ranger her wolf followed me. Wherever I went he went, it was amusing...lol

Giving Nathaniel ranger is good...giving him BARD however sucks, unless you want to go deaf...lol
