The problem for them is that they are relatively safe in Orzammar as long as an Archdemon isn't leading the forces. Getting rid of the Arch is high priority.
And the more land that falls, the more darkspawn. They could try and get aid from the Orlesian forces at the border though, as soon as Ferelden falls.
Edit: Which might be the safer bet.
I suppose this can boil down to how much assistance did the Surfacers get and/or actually need from the dwarves to end the earlier Blights. I mean, dwarf pride put aside at the time of game they are just (large) city-sized population. The amount of troops they can field may make difference for backwater country like Ferelden which just lost major part of its own forces, but i'd expect much denser populated Orlais or Tevinter be capable of striking with much more than that when/if they get organized. Which poses the question for dwarves if it's really practical to play the role of suicidal spearhead and if the Surfacers aren't just as able to handle that mostly by themselves. Given how much of difference (or lack thereof) the presence of dwarves is actually going to make.
Or to put it differently -- if the rag-tag Ferelden coalition falls with dwarves being part of them, then that's it for the dwarves, game over. On the other hand if this coalition falls without the dwarves in it then it may be game over as well but it doesn't
have to be because there's still more challengers ready to appear.
edit: (that's not to say this would be guaranteed better way for the dwarves, but rather that it can be viewed as viable alternative, and as such might have impact on their willingness to immediately follow the old treaties)
