Dwarf Thread, quick question! What reason does Gorim give for not waiting for Lady Aeducan? Does he think that she died in the Deep Roads or at Ostagar?
Hard to put a finger on this because the things he says contradict each other. I think because his main dialogue is "one-size-fits-all" and then extra dialogue was added in for the specific romance itself.
He tells the standard DN that he never gave up hope that the DN survived and he's thrilled to see that the DN is actually alive. He goes into his segue about King Endrin's final moments. Then with the standard DN, he will explain why he cannot be a party member with his broken-and-improperly-healed leg and his surface obligations. With the female romantic interest, there's an awkward shift into "my lady ... if I had thought to see you again ..."
Female DN: "I'm happy we're together once more."
Gorim: "My lady... if I had thought to see you again..."
Gorim: "You will always be in my heart. But we both knew it wouldn't truly work out."
Gorim: "Here on the surface, I've found someone. My-my wife is a good woman, the daughter of the best smith in Denerim."
Gorim: "We're... expecting our firstborn before the spring."
Female DN: "But... what about us?"
Gorim: "Even in Orzammar, we both knew it couldn't last. I was honored by the time we shared, but..."
Gorim: "You are a princess. I'm not even a warrior anymore." (VO: I'm not good enough for you.)
So I would probably go with their love being true, but unattainable. This is consistent with the things he said in origins "assasinate me before Lady Aeducan marries beneath her." They enjoyed the time they had together with no realistic expecations for the future.
To the female DN, he tells her he found a good woman. To everyone else, he says he found his heart. So I personally like to interpret that as finding someone he truly fell in love with and could be with openly.
Hope all that helps, Corker. Interpret it how you will.
